I vote for subs, every time.
I can to some extent sympathize with the folks who feel that they may miss some of the artistry while reading subs, but there is nothing stopping anyone from watching a program a second time to soak up any visual goodness that they may have missed the first (or second, or third) time around. In my opinion, part of the artistry of an anime is the audio presentation - and without fail, dubs ALWAYS miss the mark.
Mr. March's example of Cowboy Bebop is spot on: some people I know even claim that the English dub is better than the original. This of course, is a load of horse hockey The original is in fact, far better.
