I was kind of hopeful that the newer ones might have had better qc/production values. The apparent care given to the paint and packaging of the Fugu made me think that maybe the production tools were being used by a different party, but it's just as likely that it's the same backing.

Found a forgotten pic of my Valkyrie Factory 1S with the clear covers installed. What's the consensus on the quality of these versus the Fugu? Anyone have both?

Closer to a DX Henkei, but that's disrespectful to Takatoku Henkeis.

You can tell because they weigh the same as a duck, or a very small rock ðĪŠ

Pretty chequered. Their better products have been manufactured by third parties, where Toynami functions as a brand partner/regional distributor. The homegrown Toynami stuff ranges from "ok" to "disgusting".

Awesome work. That must be one of the most comprehensively modified 1/55s in existence! I'm particularly impressed by the completely novel hip joint nesting in what looks like a slide-open nose blister, and the integrated intake covers and toe extension, but that's hardly even scratching the surface. Good show man.

That is rad. While I can't read it, I can certainly admire the hand that penned all of that.

No love for Macross Flashback back 2012 ?

It could have been worse... F. Etienne Ornette?

Neat! Looking at the image closely, it appears that the 1J's visor constitutes the "A", and the chin makes up the "T" to spell out MAT vertically. Fantastic post, and grats on completion of the series! Thanks for sharing them here.

The copyright date of 1984 refers to the creation of Bandai's mold for the toys. We can tell that yours is the 1990 release because the head sculpt is completely unique to that one release.
-
What you seem to have there is the 1990 Bandai release of the VF-1S Super Valkyrie package. Check out Jenius's overview of that release and package contents here.

Notice that the elbow joint weirdness returns on the box artwork for the weathered version, showing the articulated lower bicep that doesn't exist on the actual toy.

Blade Runner / Blade Runner 2049 - Collectibles

Sounds like it's probably somewhere between 1/48 and 1/43 scale, but I don't know how long a Spinner is and can't really be bothered to look it up. Neat looking model though anyway!- 16 replies

Typically 'no box' on AliExpress means just that - the toy would be shipped in bags in a much smaller box or heavily bubblewrapped mailer. It's a move to reduce shipping cost.

That really is a crazy mashup, but I don't totally hate it. Like the VF-17 on the last page, there's some charm in that sort of thing. The 1/55 illustration on the box and Spacy markings definitely fall into that 'huh?' category, but I think that they should go further and put, like, Amuro Ray on the box or something too. Screwcaps probably won't be included, as the Valkyrie Factory ones didn't have them either.

It's Space Gandam VI ! HG is really going for saturation these days, that's for sure.

Looks like bad video game art to me. Pass.

In at least one of the videos that showed excessively gappy side covers, the reviewer didn't seem to have the swingbar armature properly connected to the hip sockets or backplate, so the backplate wasn't fit as closely to the cockpit fuselage as it should have been. It's possible to make the same transformation error on both the Yamarcadia and DX valks, so it seemed like a pretty cut and dried case of mistransformation.

Have you been able to have a look at the elbows? The suspense is killing me.
-
I'm not sure about officiality/provenance, but this one shared by Chronocidal shows what we're talking about. Elbows.

What the peanut gallery (me included!) would like to know is whether the part I've highlighted in pink articulates, or whether it's fixed to the forearm armor. It looks like it should pivot in the forearm at the same mounting point as the skinny elbow piece, to 'bulk up' the appearance of the elbow joint. The earlier prototype photos shared on the last page all showed that part rotated out parallel with the skinny elbow piece, but none of the user images of the actual toy show it deployed.
