  1. One other thing (that I think most of us have overlooked, myself included), is that the VF-0 is an experimental fighter, the VF-1 et al up to the VF-9* are all mass-produced, the majority of them after the Earth's manufacturing and production capabilities were completely destroyed! So, the decision to not include it may simply have been down to economics (it cost too much) or other technological limitations (the experimental system in the GPU-9 was prone to jamming or something when upscaled for the VF-1). Despite the VF-11, VF-17 and VF-19 having replaceable magazines, the Y/VF-21/22 and VF-25 do not. The type of ammunition (caseless) and its size (55 mm+) may be playing an important factor in whether a gun pod can have an exchangeable magazine, on top of such limiters as lack of places to store spare magazines on the airframe. * I want to say the VF-10, but I don't think it exists.
  2. This was quite shocking news. He will be missed. I, too, didn't always agree with his opinions and views (the majority of times I did), but his reviews always did get me thinking. Nevertheless, he was always positive, even in the darkest times, as the following quote illustrates: Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-22035330
  3. Cloning is the one part of Macross that hasn't been clarified very much. MC has added such nuggets as Factory Satellites dedicated exclusively to cloning, and that pretty much the entire crew and the majority of the survivors on the SDF-1 were cloned, not once, but multiple times (all the SDFN class ships had to be crewed by someone experienced, right?) Combining those two and we're left with the impression that Zentraadi clone technology (which mankind employed as is after the war), results in fully formed adult bodies with some to all of the sample's memories left intact (kinda like the My-clone/Microne micronization system). Another thing that is clear is that human cloning stopped because of the increase in what basically amounts to genetic disorders - which implies that not all of the clones were kept separated, and something relatively close to inbreeding started to occur.
  4. PHP smack down, and a bunch of tweaks (and even some retranslations!): Technology 03B: Destroid: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRtechnology/03bDestroid.php - I have mixed feelings on the demise of the ETs in the Destroid back story. But on the flip side, I really dig the two (2) heretofore unmentioned AUA Destroids!
  5. PHP smack down, tweaks and updates from the revision: Timeline 09A: The Macross Forces a Fold: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRtimeline/Timeline09A.php Complete! Mechanic: TF SMS 04A: YF-29 Durendal: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRmechanic/TFsms04aYF29.php - I was really worried that the sheet would repeat some of the difficult to translate pseudo-science on the YF-29 in the Macross F Official Complete Book, and thankfully, it didn't! It's laden with lots of juicy bits instead. Yum!
  6. Why's that? Maybe a better question would be: could you design a better exchangeable magazine and feed mechanism for that calibre Gatling gun in the aerodynamic and size constraints placed on the VF-1's gun pod, and have you read the translation of the MC sheets that go into detail about the development of the GU-11 from the GPU-9?
  7. We talking about the end of the show "Enterprise"? If memory serves, three bad things happened to it on the network side: 1) changing time slots 2) preempted by sports 3) the new (at the time) president of the network didn't like the show (or was it SF in general?). Yes, we could talk about the effects of such things as RW events and the general improvements (or opposite) in the writing, but it was really the network that made the show end sooner than it probably should have.
  8. I'm thinking of checking the latter box, too. Anyhow, I recommend that you pick this one up, Renato, as it's appended with a 13+ page interview of Kawamori and Mikimoto on the 30th anniversary.
  9. Completes: Issue 11 Back Cover Filing Instructions: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRseriesguide/CoverEtc.php#11 Issue 11 Sticker Insert: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRseriesguide/CoverEtc.php#11insert - I really like what they did with the stickers in the Revised Edition. We just have to be careful when we peel them off, eh? Mylene Flare Jiinasu / Sheryl Nome x YF-21: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRheroine/HeroineGalleryMF.php#MyleneFlareJiinasu - Surprisingly, other than the illo names, it's all recycled content. I was under the impression that they'd be using different artists each time, not the same ones! ER/RM++ Project: Character Plus UN 02A Millard Johnson: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRcharacter/PlusUN02aMillardJohnson.php - Not particularly surprising if one was paying attention during the OVA. The addition to his back story is a nice touch.
  10. ER/RC++ Project: Episode Plus 00A: Macross Plus Production Data: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/Plus00APlusProductionData.php - pretty much a complete translation (sans staff and cast). It basically amounts to a restructured and expanded reprint of the Extra Sheet. History Zero 01A: Unified Forces and Anti Unification Alliance: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRhistory/Zero01AUnifiedForcesAndAUA.php - Some interesting stuff. A sheet that I'll have to get back to. The opening paragraph on the reverse pretty much states that the Unified Government is led by the US and the Anti Unification Alliance is led by Russia. How early 80's cold war, Macross! Technology 06A: The Macross Class and Its Successor Ships: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRtechnology/06aMacrossClassAndItsSuccessors.php - again, my interest is piqued. What's most interesting is the ER/RC on the Zentraadi ships. R&R facilities for the Zentraadi? Whut up wit dat?
  11. ER/RC+ Project: Episode sheets: 706A & B: Macross 7 Eps. 6 "First Contact": ]http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/706ABeps6.php] F04A & B: Macross F Eps. 4 "Miss Macross": http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/F04ABeps4.php Ai01A: Super Dimensional Fortress Macross Do You Remember Love?: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/DYRL01ABsdfm-DYRL.php - Of these, I found the DYRL one the most enlightening (specifically the non-production side real-world effects and reactions at the time of release). Nevertheless, the other sheets have some fun facts, too.
  12. ER/RC+ Project: Worldguide 07A: Within the Macross: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRworldguide/07aWithinTheMacross.php - a few nuggets, but a bit underwhelming. Parts of the sheet proper look interesting, but that'll have to wait until there's more free time... Character: 7 00A "Macross 7" Character Interrelation Chart/Triangle Timeline: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRcharacter/700ACharacterInterrelation.php# - again, an underwhelming EC/RC. I'm not going to touch that interrelation chart. Even in chart form, it's confusing... The reverse? Watch the series for the "resolution".
  13. Updated and slapped into php: Mechanic FB 02A: VF-4 Lightning III: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRmechanic/FBun02aVF4LightniningIII.php - there are a few spots were I redid the translation (fingers crossed, it's more understandable). There are also a couple of sections that were revised in the new version (cockpit, cockpit, and Max, again. Max sure caused a lot of trouble in the original version.)
  14. The novel is consistent with other sources I've come across. Namely: a fleet returning from Mars (what exactly composes the fleet isn't described). Macross the First even depicted a debris field of significant size (again, unclear what the original ships were). I can appreciate MC emphasizing the diminutive nature of the vessel(s) involved, but the lack of consistency is disheartening.
  15. Well, to give them the benefit of the doubt, it could've been a fleet of return boats (Japanese doesn't usually distinguish between singular and plural after all). Nevertheless... boat... the only other times I've seen that come up is when they talk about the small craft the Zentraadi use to move personnel between ships... was it another case of mis-communication between those in the know and those writing the MC?
  16. ER/RC++ Project: Worldguide 05A: Anti Unification Alliance: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRworldguide/05aAntiUnificationAlliance.php - some interesting stuff. Glad that the return fleet/ship from Mars Sera Base gets a mention... but... has it really been reduced to a single ship boat?
  17. Good luck. Though, I think the dorsal packs should be stretched forward somewhat - basically so the vertical stabilizers don't interfere with the opening of the missile launcher covers.
  18. As Reïvaj said: Here's the official links: http://studiootaking.deviantart.com/art/VF-4-Battroid-with-FAST-packs-62766094?q=gallery%3Astudiootaking%2F142336&qo=8 http://studiootaking.deviantart.com/art/VF-4-FAST-Packs-Schematic-View-62760460?q=gallery%3Astudiootaking%2F142336&qo=9 Guess I should've put watermarks on the images or something...
  19. Some things from #10 (out today): - the episode sheet (Plus) looks like a restoration of the production data sheet that the original edition was planning to do but ultimately truncated due to space concerns. Next issue preview (#11) - New Hidetaka Tenjin painting of the VF-11MAXL in fighter form (consistent with the other VF sheets that are putting Super Part equipped VF paintings on the B sheet and "naked" VFs on the A sheet). - Binder stickers: 1, 2, 3 for the spines (no Zentraadi numbers this time), and what appears to be stickers for the dividers (no new sections, just what looks like stickers to cover over the divider's text with an existing section).
  20. Complete! Worldguide 10A: Zentraadi: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRworldguide/10AZentraadi.php - quite interesting, and goes a long way toward highlighting how callously monstrous the Protoculture really were. What happened to them is kind of fitting in a way. Probably the most interesting are the clarifications in the revised edition to the differences in internal structure with humans (especially when macronized) and the possibility of humans being macronized. Could it be that stores are ordering less from the distributor? I know there are a handful of MWers who aren't purchasing it regularly, and stores are basing their orders on that. Though, I am surprised that Amazon is listing it at that price. This past Saturday I saw at least 3 issues in the neighbourhood of my workplace at 2 different bookstores. Which suggests that you *should* be able to find one at cover price if you're willing to shop around a bit more off the beaten track.
  21. Posts that require a 3,000 word essay to justify the opinion is... obsessive, no? Anyhow, nothing's wrong with it as long as no one continues to say things along the lines of "anyone who doesn't like ### is (insert derogative).", like someone was recently doing about MF somewhere in MW.
  22. I believe that's just the general VF-171 version, and not a new version. The key thing about the text is that it's announcing armour parts for the general VF-171. I'd like to tell you more, but the picture is just to blurry.
  23. You have your opinion, and others have theirs. Macross F is a lesser sequel for one obvious fatal flaw: there's too much fan service to the point that it's embarrassing to show it to non-fans as representative of either Macross or anime in general. No, I'm not talking about the shower scenes or whatever, I'm talking about Klan Klan's character design. Again, I'm not saying that Macross 7 is the best Macross sequel, but at least it passes the litmus test of being able to be judged on it's own merits without any negative judgments falling on either the genre or the person presenting it to others.
  24. Great Mechanics.DX 24 was released this week. Alas, nothing on Macross. Which is disappointing, as there was great opportunity to coincide with the release of "Macross 30". On the flip side, it's loaded with stuff on Gundam Unicorn and Yamato.
  25. I'd like to add that the OVA version (Manga Video release) has better music during the final climactic showdown of the two heroes. Anyhow, I'm in the camp that doesn't think as highly of Plus now as during the first decade after it's release. Have I watched it too much? Did I grown up and mature to a point where I think the characters and their actions are juvenile and the story is melodramatic? I can't say, but I don't think that Macross F is the best sequel of SDFM, either. The one thing that I can say is that Macross 7 is the better sequel for the sheer creativity of the setting, never mind what was actually done with it.
