  1. Addendum to the preceding post: Was rushing out the door to work when I posted it... anyhow, that page had the most (text) changes I've come across so far (the Mechanic B sheets becoming centerfolds with a new Tenjin-san painting and recycled A sheet stats content don't count, nor do the changes to the VF-19 Kai Fire Valkyrie's armaments section - as that was already in the errata page!) All text changes are indicated in the translation. As no one has posted the contents for #5 yet... : http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#5 As always, the TOC for both the original and revised editions of MC: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCindex.php Edit: the Worldguide 16A Varohta Forces also has a bunch of graphics changes (above and beyond the major change from 05A to 16A!): Front: colour (red) VF-14 Vampire Reverse: All but one of the ships and variable craft are now in colour. Why was the Battroid Giant Transport Mothership left B&W?!!?
  2. I was only planning to do the extra reports on this one, but some of the headlines intrigued me... and long story short, this one turned out to be a LOT more interesting than I anticipated. Technology 01B: Variable Fighter http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRtechnology/01bVariableFighter.php Lots of gems in this one. It's even gone and clarified a long-held supposition by the PBP RPGers of days yore.
  3. Responding to stuff from 2009 again?

  5. Glossary 02A: Your Sound - We're Friends Now Partial: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRglossary/Glossary02a.php Changes: - published versions: only the page number: from 02 to 02A. - translation: were previously it was just the headlines, this time I did the entries that interested me. Of those, the most interesting was for the Hollywood Amusement ship. Why couldn't that important information have been included in the mechanic sheet? Oh, I found it odd that the non-Brera Sterne VF-27 of Antares squadron are indicated as being brown in colour - then I took a closer look at the picture that accompanied the entry... couldn't the writer have referenced another source to get the colour?
  6. In the DYRL-is-an-in-universe-movie version, the Meltrandi weren't so much a separate group, but merely an all-female division of the Zentraadi. So, they used all of the Zentraadi mobile weapons plus the Kwadorun-Rou. The full list of mobile weapons I've cobbled together is here: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Statistics.php#Zentraedi_Aerospace_Craft The DYRL-is-fact version, the Meltrandi used the Kwadorun-Rou, Kwadorun-Nona, and a 3-headed Heavy Attack something something (the latter two from the game embellishment, that introduced not only the Meltrandi Salvage Ship, but the Zentraadi APC and ECM Pod!). Ultimately, as Kawamori-san has said that all the movies and series are in-universe fictional dramatizations of the real events, we are left with the idea that the Meltraandi used all of the above. Though, their ships tended to be coloured purple in the SDFM dramatization.
  7. Fun facts: where does this 45 million number come from that some members are throwing around? Apparently it's the high estimate for the deaths during the Great Leap Forward. Low end estimates are at 18 million, and informed estimates are 18 to 32.5 million. Yes, bad things happened (it was the social and economic continuation of the revolution after all), but what percent of those deaths were caused by bad weather? Specifically drought and complete lack of rainfall? Wouldn't deaths caused by famine caused by natural disasters happen to whoever was in political power? Whether they be capitalist, anarchist or whatever? All of which is beside the point of this topic, as cwmodels has stated that the comic is a reflection of modern China. Mao died in 1976. Deng Xiaping sowed the seeds for modern China in the late '80's. There hasn't been any great proletarian revolutionary actions in China since the end of the Cultural Revolution. In 1976. Not sure how some people are making a connection between the revolutionary actions of the PRC leaders of more than 50 years ago with the "Communism with Chinese characteristics" of the modern China, which really only started 20 or so years ago... ... in a comic book about guys in tights punching each other... Disclaimer: don't get me wrong. Modern China isn't very high on my favourite countries list. They've gone a little too far with economic development in spite of the environment - to the point that part of that truly hideous smog that was over Beijing a week or so ago has now been blown all the way to my home. >.<
  8. Mechanic: Other 09A: VF-X-7 Ghost Valkyrie / VF-X-11 / VA-X-3 / V-BR-2 / Stampede Valkyrie: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRmechanic/Other09Astampedvalkyrie.php I could've sworn that I'd already translated this sheet... so it was with great surprise that I hadn't. About halfway through it, I had that funny feeling like I had... Weird. Anyhow, some things that are good to know, but aside from the colourized Stampede Valkyrie and change from an Extra Sheet to a Mechanic Sheet, it's exactly the same. The lame thing about both versions is that it doesn7t include the battroid form of the VA-X-3. Anyhow, what's most interesting (aside from the implied connections with the Tornado pack), is the significance of the sheet number change: #8 to #9. Some of the extra sheets had character art, too. So, I figure we're in for an additional couple of pages of "other" VFs, or expanded coverage.
  9. Episode sheets! Macross Plus "Episode 1" (gotta love that episode title ): partial - http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/Plus01ABeps1.php Macross 7 Eps. 2 "Spiritia Level": partial - http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/702ABeps2.php Both of them have a number of gems of info in them. I'm quite enjoying these sheets, especially as they cast the series of Macross in new lights.
  10. Admittedly, my limited experiences with the Cap are from about 15 years ago, when I was working in a comic store in Canada - which left me with a bunch of negative feelings for Marvel; not so much for how they treated their creative staff or the derivative nature of their comics, but how they f**ked over the North American comic industry by attempting to distribute their comics on their own. Their policy of 5 issue minimum purchases and no returns was truly horrible. It makes me appreciate the Japanese distribution system that much more - from appearances it's a 2 issue minimum, and one can return unsold stock (which does make things difficult if one is trying to collect all the issues of a publication long after the fact!).
  11. You just HAD to mention that last one... what about the vegetables, rice or meat available at some vending machines?
  12. You assume to much. I'm a Canadian, living in Japan, who majored in East and South East Asian history, and can tell when someone is white washing the facts about my major and spinning them to make their justification sound much more significant than it really is. I don't like the patriotism implied in the comic "Captain America", but I don't get my panties in a knot about it, BECAUSE I know it's just a comic book about some guy in tight spandex fighting other guys in tight spandex and I invest my energies in more productive things. The same goes for Captain China - you don't like it? Stop looking at it and move on to more important things in your life.
  13. Peter, this isn't a topic about the real world. It's about a comic book. I (and I suspect a bunch of other people) are getting fed up with posts that not only have nothing to do with the topic, but continually say the exact same argument that was posted last April. We get that you have rage. This is not the venue to vent it. Cwmodels, keep up the good work, and your posts on the challenges and success of getting this out there are always entertaining. One question: this latest cover strongly reminds me of the Japanese sentai hero "Kamen Rider". Have you been continuing in a sentai-styled approach to villain design, or have you gone a different route, say something reminiscent of the legendary Chinese hero/villain designs, like iHong Kong's Legend of Emperors (天子傳奇)?
  14. Last I checked, it was around ¥25,000 round trip. Of course, there are deals, such as Shinkansen + business hotel, where the Shinkansen price is reduced. Though, the more affordable option is the overnight bus - approximately ¥10,000 round trip. There are options with that too (such as the bus + hotel + Disney entrance ticket) that'll reduce what you pay on transportation and hotel somewhat more.
  15. Number 04 reaction summary: YF-21 FAST Pack equipped Battloid painting = nice! The big relief of this issue is that the Macross Plus episode sheets is consistent with the other episode sheets: 2 sheets for episode 1.
  16. Gah... forgot to mention: all changes between the original and revised editions are indicated in the php translation.
  17. History 7 01A: Fire Bomber (partial) http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRhistory/701AFireBomber.php Continuing the "extra reports" project. This time, we also get the headlines, and the mini-bios of the 4 Fire Bomber members. Whack-a-mole. Of all things Mylene, of all things.
  18. Episode F Eps. 2 "Hard Chase" (partial) http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRepisode/F02ABeps2.php Some interesting points but - and this may be because I don't particularly like MF - I didn't find it as insightful as #3's SDFM episode sheets.
  19. It's cool. It's always nice to have multiple sources for veracity.
  20. Already announced about 1 and a half months back: http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=30860&p=1011117
  21. Technology 01A Variable Fighter: the Anti-"Giant" Multipurpose Air/Space Craft: http://sketchleystats.webatu.com/Trans/MCRtechnology/01aVariableFighter.php What I first thought was as simple "edit, mark changes and code in php" job turned into a marathon of revisions, and new translations. Dare I say that I bit off more than I could chew when I attempted it the first time around? Now with 50% re-translated content! 75%+ revised content! I can't *really* say there's any new information, but it should be a lot easier to comprehend. There are a surprising number of changes on the sheet. Aside from a 1 word change on the front, all 5 of the sample images for the different types of Variable Craft are changed from B&W to colour. Of those, a whopping 3 have been changed to different models. On the one hand, it's a minor change, on the other, it casts the corresponding description in new light. I was tempted to say totally different, but as 2 of those are only different variants... Azrael, you should be happy, as the number of VF-1 (variants) has dropped on the sheet. Speaking of that, remember how the first dozen or so MC issues had a VF-1 related mechanic sheet? We're 3 issues in, and have only had a whopping one (1) VF-1 themed sheet. Is this a sign that there will be less focus on the VF-1 this time around? Anyhow, off to do the 2nd MF Eps sheet(s).
  22. Erm, to put a bit of context into the scene: it's after he's landed, and had time to change out of his pilot suit. To top that off, he buys it from a vending machine. Gotta love Japan!
  23. Newtype Ace 2013 Vol. 18 Macross Content: NA Anime Station - Upcoming releases of FB7 and Macross 30 Game Scoop section - Macross 30: "big" announcement is the rollout of the YF-30 Chronos and a YF-29 with Ozuma colouring. Manga: Macross FF Macross the First: Tales of South Ataria I'm getting the feeling that it's building up to something neat. I'm also finding the "and this is what our heroes were doing on the eve of the SDF-1's launch" refreshingly new. Next issue: Macross the First Macross FF
  24. Your post is well thought out, but it starts falling apart about here: Ichijo is appearing in Macross 30, with new lines and animation. Not to mention the other appearances or even that the in-universe disappearance of the Megaroad 01 happened years before his untimely death. The real reason is that the creators of Macross gave those characters' their proverbial walk into the sunset. Nothing more than that their stories had finished being told.
