Movies that were better than the book
Knight26 replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
ACtually the book and screenplay were written concurrently and were based off an original short story by Clark. Where the pair differed was the destination clark wanted Saturn, thought it was more interesting, Kubrick wanted Jupiter (he thought it was more interesting and easier to create on film), and of course the endings are vastly different. Of course in the end Clark Retconned the book to Jupiter, but that is a whole other issue. -
Nice Mospeada redesign on the cover, though I don't think I have ever seen a left handed Stinger before.

Is anyone working on a translation of this yet? I would love to get it, but would want to know what is written in it too, you know? -

I started watching that video and had to stop immediately, that prick Shay Carl is a freaking child abusing POS. Want proof check out his " " video. He screams at his kids, sprays them in the face point blank with high pressure water, etc... I hope that SOB gets arrested or at the very least his kids taken away. Believe me had I been there and seen him I would have let the world know what a POS he is. DO not support him, do not watch his videos, report him and get him shut down. -
The user interface on freelancer, keyboard and mouse on a space sim, give me a break, I wanted to use my throttle and rudder, and have ships that travelled at different speeds.

Seriously what color is the crack you are smoking, the ST movie is horrible, unless viewed as a satire. The book is still considered a masterwork of military sci-fi, with only books like Armor and Forever War handling the same/similar subject matter better IMHO. -

Gunny is right, they should have drained the fuel, not "burned through it" they basically could have just killed your engine. And somehow I am doubting he told his mechanic that he put diesel into it, otherwise the mechanic would have smacked upside the head and told him a much different price. -

SO, is the beagle line dead, the Toynami line or both? I know that they are the same thing, but depending on the wording there could be some hope to see the toys released, just under one brand or the other. -
Well seeing them in front of the new Tardis (which either is larger, or they are really short) really dashes my hopes that Tennant going to Comiccon was going to pull a gotcha! I was hoping that the movie they announced would star smith as, get this the original, pre-regeneration, young hartnel, and that it would be a prequel of sorts, showing how the doctor stole the Tardis/got started on his adventuring. Then, Tennant would announce that he signed for X more series, but I guess that will not be the case.

Spiral War: Academy is ready for purchase

Well it looks like I won't be go to MWCon. The package of my books that was the linchpin of my attendance did not arrive today, unless it appears first thing tomorrow then I won't be going. I doubt that anyone will care if I just bring "con disks," which have the book electronically, with some tech articles, dossiers, and other surprises. My son is really the one who loses out though, all funds would go to his care. -

Well it looks like I won't be attending like I thought. A package of books that was the linchpin of my attendance did not arrive today, and unless it appears on my doorstep first thing tomorrow then I won't be coming. Sorry, but the books in that box, my book, were the primary reason I was going to attend. Somehow I doubt that anyone will care if I just bring my "con disks," which just have the book electronically, with some additional tech articles, dossiers, and other surprises. My son is really the one who loses out though, I was going to give away copies of the book to any attendee who donated towards his care fund. -

I will have to take a look at my old flight helmet with the YF-19 silohette and see if it is ok to bring. -
SO, it has been a while since I played battletech, but watching that video, have they not heard of sensors or targetting computers? I mean an M1 Abrams can hit a moving target on the move with its main gun at top speed fairly regularly, at around a mile in range. Are you telling me that 1000 years in the future two giant mechs can't hit each other from less then 100 yards? Also, how come the Tomahawk exploded when killed, lighting off a nice nuclear explosion, but not the first mech? Also, wouldn't ejecting at that point be pretty pointless?

Hmm, I think I ought to pick this up now seeing the index -
Ok quick question, not so much about the toys but about a model and the canonicity of it. The new E-Wing kit being produced makes it look like the wings are suppossed to move, though none of the kits I have seen assembled so far have the wings movable. This particular kit by FM Model Company clearly has a hinge joint at the wing roots, and it makes the support strut that connects the wing to the fuselage appear to slide in order to make the wing rise. Now my question is, was this the original artists intention or strictly the idea of the model master? Personnally I like it, and it helps to fix some major issues I have always had with the E-Wing.

Interesting pictures from the mig factory, especially the number of MiG-29K's being built. Those must be the ones that the India's are buying for their carrier. Something else too, apparently the Pak-Fa will make an appearance at MAKS-2009, too bad they don't allow cameras there, expect for offiicial photos.

The canopy thing is for test fitting mutliple units to make sure that htey all fit. Remember there are tolerances in every design, I've worked on system where a pair of interconnecting components were at the limits of their tolerances, one on the large end, the other on the small and they would not fit, but move them to another unit and they fit together fine, so that is what they are testing.

Interesting, I swear you said before that you were in the US Navy, so which is it?

Didn't he already do it and they named it skyfire?

Ben just admit that you used a time machine and this is a Moscato, it's too nice to be anything else, nicely done.

So you are looking for a fanart sketch of HIKARU ICHIJO's VF-1J from the end of the openning credits of the original SDF Macross, correct? A google search might actually turn that up, or maybe check the fanart section at *shudders* robotech.com I'm sure I have seen something like that there.

Oh come on, any single guy with enough prowess should be able to convince one of the cute coeds still on campus to let them crash in their dorm room, or maybe that is your problem, lol. Seriously, there is this great tool out there called the internet, it is wonderful for doing things like looking up and booking hotels. -

I actually live in tehachapi, but the specialists we take my son to are at UC Davis Medical Center in Sac, so if it coincides with one of his appointments I might be able to stop by for a little while.
