  1. Let's see if we can get this topic back on the rails then; One of the biggest complaints I've always had about JJTrek is the unprofessionalism and unearned rank of Captain PineKirk (this is directed towards the writing, but also the age of the actor/ character). Prime Kirk earned his captaincy, and while something of a maverick, knew his position and took it seriously. He also took discipline and authority seriously as well. PineKirk doesn't, and at times, ti seems the entire bridge crew doesn't either. Not to mention Prime Kirk had to earn his command over a lot more years than PineKirk's what...2-3 years? And he wasn't still a cadet at the time either. To me, what that points to is JJ Abrams trying to make Trek into Star Wars: The Federation Years rather than Star Trek. Rank and chain of command existed for a reason in the Prime Universe, but in JJTrek, they use that chain for a jump-rope, and they toss whatever person just happens to be there (an engineer gets sent to an ice world for screwing up and suddenly they trust him to be chief engineer of the Federation Flagship?). This is why I really don't want to see their next attempt: it's bound to be painful.
  2. Starting to wonder if they should just ask Seth McFarlane to take over helming Star Trek. I know there's probably a lot of good reasons he wouldn't (and probably shouldn't), but it's sad when he has a better grasp of what Trek is truly all about than those who currently own it!
  3. I'd love to see them do the New Macross class (with city section)!!
  4. Really nice work there MT! BTW: I never knew the pilot sat just under the head; good thing robots don't sneeze! lol One thing I like about Macross World Forums: if you need references (or just about anything else!), someone's bound to have them!
  5. Already gone, but I have one formed already.

I wonder also if the head laser could slide into the head a bit?
  7. What it does is re-distribute the plasticizer in the plastic (from the article I read), but you need to be careful to not melt the plastic. One minute in the boiling water is enough, and I don't recommend it for styrene generally. As for moisture: that's a possibility (not an expert on plastics per se). As for the bolt: that's the idea! The bolt is now adhered via plastic welder (adheres metal too ast3500 psi strength according to the package) to the metal frame, so it won't transmit shock or stress to the plastic chest "boxes" on either side. This project has been a distant dream that only now came true; I paid as much as I did because the arms were not broken off of it, only to have it happen out of the package! But returning it would have just put me back at "zero", and any of these are going to be vulnerable anyways. Hopefully, I can get the one derex is offering (waiting on him to check shipping for me) and then I can proceed. Mog, I wanted to revisit your post; I promised you some internal pics, and here they are: As you can see here, the bolt head is nearly flush with the black plastic collar for the shoulder. But to make sure the bicep cleared, I took off a little of the top of it and beveled the "square" end of it (had to hold it in place manually for the photo, as the spring socket for the bicep kept popping it off the shoulder block!) My latest progress so far: I removed the bridge "bubble" in preparation for installing a clear one and miniature bridge. I plan on completely fabricating the radar array and antennae, and scratching up a better radome for the left side. Meantime, I also did some rework on the separation mechanism for the bridge, and got the sliders to go out further. i don't like the blocky "undertackle" on them though; i may remove the sliders and work out a better slide system for it. Stay tuned... Misa's probably gonna get grumpy while the Bridge is a mess!
  8. Hey, i was just wondering if you made any progress on this concept?
  9. Thanks! Hoping to hear word soon so I can get going! Planning on looking at all the mods everyone has made in this thread: A lot of good ideas , suggestions and fantastic groundwork done by some really talented folks!! Also recall some folks in that thread with unfinished projects; I'd love to hear if they ever got back to them!
  10. Agreed. The thing about Trek was not a "shoot-em up" for the sake of violence, but only when it had a reasonable and logical place in the action. I like them, but when they are gratuitous it hurts the story and makes characters and even whole groups out as violent sociopaths with uniforms and a ship. I don't like space combat simply because of the perceived need for "pew pew pew". I would not say "darker" so much as recognizing that the "edges of the plate are not as clean as the center". In other words: per Sisko's "saints in paradise" discourse, it's easy to be "squeaky clean in front of the throne". That's where the rules are enforced the most and peace reigns the strongest. But in the distances away from the seat(s) of power, where the concepts and rules aren't as firmly entrenched, people face situations and scenarios where the "official" way isn't going to necessarily work, and the "dirt of life" with all its' imperfections really shows. As an example: there's the way things are done at the Pentagon, and there's the way they are done on the frontline. Dark? Perhaps. Does it depart the core values that made the people who they are? No; it just means that doing what it takes to "get the job done" may require a different modality than the "spit and polish" required at the higher levels of the service. To an extent. But movies just about blasting people into FRM get old after a while, and JJtrek has yet to solve any conundrums such as: - The existential dilemma suffered by an alien entity which is in actuality an old earth probe; - Debating the morality of using an unimaginably powerful terraforming device on a populated planet; - The harrowing pursuit of an old enemy who now has a tremendous vendetta against you personally (not just "the service you are serving in); - The limits one will go to, even the loss of their career and everything they have worked for, to save someone whose life meant so much to them, the duty to save your homeworld from an alien threat, even though returning most likely means imprisonment and punishment; - The pursuit of the relative of one of your group, whose "visions of God" may or may not be "insanity"; - Having to lay down your old vendettas in the spirit of fostering a possible peace between two great warring factions, even though one of that faction murdered your only child. So far, all PineKirkā„¢ has managed to do is: get drunk, catch space STD's, swipe command, wreck the ship he swiped, and act like a smug, pompous @$$ along the way.
  11. I feel for ya!! Lately, been trying to get back some like the 1/3000 SDF-1 (only to have the arms come off at the shoulders; worked out a fix for it though).
  12. Good to see it back up! As of late, been visiting it (and crying about all the neat mecha I don't have! rofl! )
