That was kind of the role I had hoped for Kaname in Delta. Alas, nope, all idols all the time. -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
kajnrig replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Finished up FMP earlier today, and by all accounts it's a good end to a middling season. Xebec showed they can meet the challenge given adequate time and resources. Some of the dramatic setups were bungled, but seeing and hearing without the usual anime overwrought operatics was a damn refreshing thing. Overall, I still think they stuck way too close to the source material - could have excised Namsac entirely - and the story would have been stronger for it. And no matter how much I try, I can't stop imagining what this same story arc would have looked like in KyoAni's hands. It's unfair to Xebec, who I think did the best with what they had in a very different industry, but still... But those complaints don't beat out the positive feelings. It's absurdly lopsided in quality, with most of the good coming from the very first and very last episodes and a TON of the bad from the middle 80% or so, but it's just so good to have been back again. -
I prefer this version. DO IT YOU BASTARD!!! the unironic love for even the dumbest parts of Zilla lore is infectious But on another note, whoever composed the music for this trailer is fantastic. I know it's just Claire de Lune or however it goes, but the choice to use it was genius. It's what elevates this one far far above the Shazam/Aquaman trailers that also came out this weekend. It's used in a lot of other stuff. The name of it is, yep, guess I was right, "Clair de Lune" and it was composed by one Charles Debussy as the third movement of his Suite bergamasque piano suite. I remember it from the The Evil Within games, but I'm sure I've heard it elsewhere as well. EDIT: https://www.forbes.com/sites/olliebarder/2018/07/22/whats-up-with-the-new-godzilla-king-of-the-monsters-trailer-using-debussys-clair-de-lune/#1bcea0054ebc

Two? You mean three, right? Or... wait... there's the pre-Arbalest SRT, when Sousuke's still piloting the M9, so that's a team of three... Then there's the Arbalest SRT, so two M9s there... probably need another to scratchbuild an M9D Falke... the Laevatein team, so another two or three?... oh, and the Blaze Raven from the spinoffs... So... about sixty? Yeah, sixty sounds about right.

Well, it's not nearly as bad as the Aquaman trailer. That's... some sort of endorsement, I guess.

Looks like lots of sound and fury to distract from an utter lack of substance. Does anyone else find it weird that literally every other Atlantean speaks in a formal style whereas THE Atlantean is the sole exception? It bothered me in Justice League (well, everything bothered me in Justice League), and it bothers me here. You don't see T'Challa busting out the AAVE in Wakanda. And it took Thor something like five movies to gradually lose his Asgardian manner of speech. Blargh. Just getting the hate on. Ignore me, enjoy.

I'd have way preferred a movie about her time briefly teased in Age of Ultron. That sequence stood out as one of the highlights of an otherwise decent but ultimately mid-tier movie. By now, the time for a solo Widow movie has come and gone, methinks. It feels, at least to me, like a Solo movie.

The design showed up (along with 4 others, apparently) in the Walkure 3rd Live "Walkure Won't Betray You" concert this past February. Seems like it's also an available skin or something in the mobile game Uta Macross. The paint scheme was designed by Hidetaka Tenjin himself (Google Translate translates his name as Takami Hidetori).

I watch one video - ONE VIDEO - and I mean hell I don't even watch it, I don't even watch the show the video is about, I SHARE THE VIDEO WITH YOU PEOPLE SO YOU CAN WATCH IT and for weeks on end now Youtube's been recc'ing videos at me until finally I crack and watch this one and what even just what i mean it's pretty funny i guess and mako's not bad so whatever -
I'll try to get some pics tonight or so of my burgeoning collection, too. From memory of what I have... - SQ and Figuarts Zero = ~1/10, 15-18cm - all the various Ichiban Kuji Rankas and Sheryls = ~1/7, 23cm - Ichiban Kuji Klan = ~1/6, 27cm - Excellent Model Klan Miclone = ~1/8, 20cm I think they're sometimes designed them with a lot of empty space both to suggest a larger size of the figure than they actually are and also to ensure they're well-protected. The pose and dress also sometimes play a role; can't have a small box if your dress flares out in every direction (which unfortunately a lot of the Frontier figures do...). EDIT: oh also I ended up having to cut off like 1cm from the longer of the two pegs before the foot could finally touch base. Perhaps this will help the strength of the peg, too, but I'll get back in a year and let you know.

Generally just that it's so bad as to be completely scrubbed and bleached from Bandai et al's collective memory. There have been a few people here and there that have said it's on the so bad it's good tier, but otherwise the fandom seems dismissive and hostile towards it. The thing about those two is that fans LOVE them. Street Fighter fans LOVE the Van Damme movie despite/because of how bad it is. Starship Troopers fans LOVE the first movie despite/because of how absurdly it ramps up the militaristic jingoism. (And in the latter's case, I don't know if it tried to play itself "seriously" so much as, well, ramp up the militaristic jingoism. Paul Verhoeven is fantastic at satire that way.) I don't know if this falls into either of those categories. I think, on the actors' side, that may have been the case; they may have been pulling a Street Fighter-level "just roll with it and have fun" mentality. But I suspect that the Japanese production side of things was approaching this very earnestly, very seriously, and with very serious intentions. They made it one of the tentpoles of their 20th(?) anniversary celebration of Gundam, after all. They were touting it as this revolutionary step forward for the franchise and for the entertainment industry prior to its release. That's actually a really apt comparison.- 3806 replies

Gundam Show Thread - MSG thru GQuuuuuuX
kajnrig replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Having just finished G-Saviour, I can say with confidence that it is actually way more fun than the internet had led me to believe (and maybe more than it has any right to be). It starts out really dumb - the plot revolves around a newly-discovered enzyme that's supposed to solve world hunger by "catalyzing a bioluminescent reaction that produces both heat and light" in the Earth's oceans, allowing for deep-sea agriculture - and only gets dumber by the end - the action-packed finale only happens because of a jilted lover, and the bad guys die to a hammy "Nooooo~~!!!!" as their own troops mistakenly fire upon them - but it's the fun kind of dumb, the so bad it's good kind. And I mean, y'know the CGI isn't all that bad for the budget and the time, and the mecha action wasn't half bad, and they managed to make the G-Saviour look, dare I say it... cool. And the actors give it their all, they buy into it 100%... That was a great time.- 3806 replies
