  1. https://www.cnn.com/2018/06/08/us/anthony-bourdain-obit/index.html "Anthony Bourdain, the gifted chef, storyteller and writer who took TV viewers around the world to explore culture, cuisine and the human condition for nearly two decades, has died. He was 61."
  2. Happy Birthday to Best Girl.
  3. ....yeah, the level of vitriol is getting pretty silly again. Just gonna add to my review that my nephew's friend saw it and apparently didn't think it was that great. So... I dunno, maybe just more evidence that this is a fan movie through and through. From my limited perspective, the younger generation seem to love the new trilogy so far and have a less enthusiastic response to the side stories (which certainly makes sense, as so far the side stories have subsisted almost wholly on nostalgia), so perhaps the "core audience" @mechaninac is referring to isn't the "core audience" anymore.
  4. Right, it was part of a Q&A, not a review, but it's just an opinion I trust since they're more fully a testing/reviewing channel and tend to do more in-depth testing than LTT. The trade-off looks like it will be well worth it, I think. No more having to worry about spread, coverage, air gaps, etc. Just set it down and go; seems way simpler. Let me know how your experience goes, I'd love the testimonial. But speaking of GN and speaking of Intel's laughable "28-Core 5.0GHz" CPU:
  5. I see your Linus and I raise you a Steve. No lie, though, I do think the IC graphite pad is pretty freaking awesome. They could stand to make it a bit bigger, though. I think it's only slightly larger than a Coffee Lake die, and definitely not big enough to cover the surface area of both dies in a Ryzen chip. EDIT: I wonder if Volta will ever make its way down from enterprise usage (where I think it was shown to actually be... not that good?) to consumer GPU architecture. Isn't the 1100/20xx (whatever they are) line going to still use the same architecture as the 1060 et al? What is Coffee Lake... 8th gen?
  6. Phew. That's one heck of an upgrade. Have fun. (Are you sticking with your old video card for now? What make/model?) Also, check out this unnecessarily super hype trailer:
  7. I prefer Johnson's take: "When we talk about manbabies" In the end, whether race is a motivating factor or not is kind of a moot point, isn't it? I mean insofar as gauging the effects of the "criticism" goes, the damage done is entirely racial. No one's writing any articles about Tran shutting down her accounts because Rose was a bad character. Way I hear it, the cast and crew actively encourage All The Pairings, and Oscar Isaac and John Boyega intentionally played up the ho yay in TFA. Obviously there was less time available to dedicate to it in TLJ, but I'm sure some fans are keeping their hopes alive. I still don't think, or maybe I hope not, that the Finn/Rose thing will actually be a thing come IX. I've said before that I read that little "romantic" moment as more of Rose taking on the big sister role from her own big sister. (and I mean it's not like there isn't precedent for siblings and romance to intersect anyway amirite)
  8. Isolated each frame for interested parties. 30 pictures, but all like 80kb or so. Turns out it's not the vertical fin. The two horizontal stabilizers fold up and out, like Sildani says.
  9. Maybe to you...? To me it suggests an endeavor to emulate the expressiveness and high contrast of comic books and traditionally-animated cartoons. If there's a budget saving in there, then that's killing two birds with one stone. Sony Pictures Animation is hardly hurting for cash.
  10. Ouch. That super sucks. And from such a young age, too. I honestly did not recognize the name or remember who he was. See, I never thought Young Anakin (or hell, even Hayden Anakin) was all that bad, either. Certainly didn't care enough to make fun of him for years and years and years about it.
  11. Saw it today, and I have a confession to make: I never noticed the dice in the original trilogy. My thoughts going in were largely my thoughts coming out: It's good given what it is, but it continues Rogue One's trend of not making a particularly strong argument for why these side movies should exist.
  12. Ah, good to know. I didn't get the impression it would be an insensate rage video like some other reccs, but it popped up alongside them and I had to roll my eyes at The Collective Mass. I'll probably check it out. I take it as a defining character trait of his. He's self-deluding; he 100% buys into the lie he's set up for himself, and his lack of self-awareness only serves to make him more dangerous. Anyway, I'm not gonna link to any of the articles because they're all clearly just clickbait spinning off of the same tenuous, poorly-researched, barest thread of a lead: If true, then the fandom needs to get its collective crap together, but Tran has a history of being social media-averse, so these sites could have stood to do a bit more digging before publishing what is obviously half-baked nonsense for the sake of a couple more views.
  13. They're finally doing what I said they should have done ten years ago. Alas, that's ten years too late for me to care anymore, but I know some of you will definitely be down for this.
  14. God damn it, Youtube, your algorithm is taking me down a slippery slope. It's only two more videos before I watch a fan blathering on and on about how The Last Jedi signals the downfall of the global civilization... This one, though, seems like it'll be another one of the reasonable ones. We'll see in a couple minutes. EDIT: So yeah, it's an older code but it checks out. It's more about analyzing the narrative aspects of the movie (obviously) than any critique of the film itself, which is the kind of stuff I absolutely love but I know some of you here probably aren't as interested in. EDIT 2: Oh boy, here we go. "Star Wars: The Last Jedi - What Went Wrong? – Wisecrack Edition" "Why Star Wars: The Last Jedi is a Complete Cinematic Failure" "The Last Jedi And The Fall Of Star Wars: Part 1 - The Idiocy Awakens" *long, protracted sigh* god damn it youtube...
  15. Just waiting with bated breath on that Carrie-Anne Moss announcement... Or actually, maybe it's better that they leave her to be a theater-wide gasp when she teams up with Neo and Morpheus again.

    BANDAI DX YF-19!!

I forget, did the Arcadia have magnetic leg Supers? Or was that the Yamato?
  18. Yeah, with this being the more recent film and thus this thread having more of an audience, I figured more eyes would see it this way. It's related enough to TLJ... but anyway. I forget when I first started watching Lindsay Ellis's videos, but she used to be part of Channel Awesome, the group that included the Nostalgia Critic (she played Nostalgia Chick). She went solo after some sort of fallout, I think, and her solo stuff is way better in comparison. She has a bomb three-part essay on The Hobbit as well which included her going to New Zealand and interviewing the actor who portrayed one of the dwarves.
  19. Eh. Make it a Ground Gundam and you'll have my attention. Best of fortunes, though. The design work is solid. It reminds me of the old 1/60 Ground Gundam conversion kit for the PG RX-78-2. Back then I didn't know what a resin kit was, and was even less able to buy one, but I'd kill for a chance to work on one now...
