Transformers Super Thread 4: The Return
Twoducks replied to Dangard Ace's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Yeah, movie SS isn't going to win any beauty contest and we could make jokes about it but, personally, seeing someone bent so much steam over how a little 10$ toy that he isn’t forced to buy looks is a sign that that person needs to disconnect from whatever it is that makes him unhappy (very easy to do when it's jus a toy line). The 1/48 is in a whole different league: - The 1/48 costs about 125$... the little SS toy 10$-20$ - The 1/48 is a lot bigger that the SS toy… that means there’s more room to work with. - The 1/48 is THE product, not part of a wave of completely different designs that hit shelves at the same time... SS will share space with a lot of other TF movie toys that also have to be engineered at the same time. -The 1/48 is based on a design made 25 years ago... the designers of SS don't have 25 years worth of chunky monkeys, bandais, bamprestos, model kits or whatever to get ideas from, plus, as said before, they have to do all the other movie toys also. -From the looks of the filtered designs, the movie TF are very complex, more so than the beautiful VF-1. So no wonder they are more difficult to make a little toy that looks somewhat like the movie AND can transform into real vehicle. On the kids thing: I hear a lot about how stupid kids are today and what crappy shows they have but remember that in the 80's kids went bonkers over toy bricks that starred in a cartoon that isn't remembered for its stimulating and immersive plot. What has raped my childhood more than any remake, movie or whatever has been actually seeing again some of the shows I loves as a kid. The great majority are pieces of crap made just to sell crap, much like today. So any stupid American, Japanese, German or whatever kid can have fun with that little toy the same way as the stupid American, Japanese, German or whatever kids did in the 80's with their mostly static metal bricks. -
Here's a variable kitbash someone did using the hasegawa kit [attachmentid=39580] Better and more pics (including Gerwalk) here: http://photos.yahoo.co.jp/ph/horton1485/ls...c=ph&.view= It looks really fragile but remember that its made from a thin plastic kit in 1/72 scale that was supposed to be only a plane. Yamato will have more room and mass to work with. Don't know if any other SV-51's in battroid mode have been made.
-
Yep, 38cm is BIG. Battroid mode better shrink a great deal or it won’t fit in a lot of display cases Orange Nova scheme in the YF-19 me like.
-
Same here. Just the transformation should be impressive as hell, let alone with the size Yamato says the toy will have. Hope they just do a normal stand and not waste budged on flashy designs (for me a good stand is one that you hardly see). Might wait for the Nora scheme; black kinda eats detail unless you have a lot of light. So, eugimon, can you prophesize things that won’t make us loose money? How about lottery numbers?
-
Same here. When I think of a valk I think of the VF-1J at the end of the Robotech intro. The 1/48 VF-1J was the answer to a childhood dream. Can’t beat that. And BTW, my childhood dream could use the TV VF-1J Fast Packs to be über fulfilled, so if anybody wants to sell one and make an inner child happy PM me.

Wow, nice pic mpchi! Makes me want to get all the getters. Can't wait for my Mazinkaiser to arrive (first revoltech purchase). And there's even a Megatron planed for April and a EVA Mass Production Model: http://www.sgcollect.com/forum/index.php?s...st&p=965173

Hasbro said they didn't have any immediate plans so don't expect anything at least until they finish milking the movie. You could wait until Takara announces an anime repaint. Prizes for the MP-03 would more than likely go down and used ones would pop up on Ebay (if you want the MP-03 colour scheme that is). -
"Tough titties, that's my final decision" Good one ghostryder Now I can understand Macross Zero. I was just missing the “right mental mood†to appreciate that crappy story ... I really like how the white stripes look on the 0A. For me this would be the M0 valk to have if Yamato finally passes on the 0D… really don’t care much about the ghost, doesn’t add much to the design as the VF-1 fast packs do.

First season: Magnificent. Second season: The middle part feels like filler… Really boring filler (still remember that horrible episode where the rockstar wanted to baptize the baby ). I even missed and episode and didn’t notice it until I saw the rerun. “Lost†time developing some stories that didn’t go anywhere. Writers doing the script as they go along? Sure feels like it. Third season: So far the focus returns to the original characters to restore what they “lost†in the second season. We also see the return of polar bears and “lostzillaâ€â€¦ which were almost 100% missing in the 2nd and now feel like fanservice. The mystery but more importantly the whole situation and character interaction was what got me hooked. If they just hang unto gimmicky revelations and loose the characters then they loose me. There is a fine line between farfetched and believable (and when you go farfetched with something that starts very rooted to the real world a lot of people will loose interest). The series still has my benefit of the doubt. At least until this season ends (or they return to filler).

Video reviews/transformation guides of cool toys rule! I've never opened the manual for my 1/48, the video guide was perfect. Thanks Graham (you know, a video about Yamato’s 2007 projects would be a very nice interlude between the first and second part of the transformation guide…)
-
Thanks for the review Graham. Anybody else feel scared when looking at a ¥18,800 plastic toy next to a great big fall? "The Yamato 1/60 YF-19; living on the edge of life"
-
I feel sad for the poor 1/72 when looking at that pic
-
Well, IMO it’s nice to see that after 20 years of the same they are making something that actually looks like it would need to be the size of a small house to work and not limited to current $20 toy technology. The only thing that really interests me about this movie is that the designs aren’t scaled up toys or something you could se in a fan made video like that Prime. Seeing ILM transforming and moving those designs is what’s going to get my money, not something that a guy in his mother’s basement could make.

I just love he fact that the movie designers said "Fuuck the toys!" and did something that isn't just a scaled up toy or limited to how well it would translate into one. Car doors must be sacred in TF toys. Has there ever been a working door that can brake up into other parts? They should work that into an ATL/BT based cartoon; they could fly around flapping them as little wings. -

Are you talking about a 6†toy? Because if that’s the case then I also agree that a decent looking toy won’t be easy to pull off. But if you are talking about a freaking big robot then I don’t see a problem. MP Starscream (which is supposed to be very complex) is made out of a LOT of tiny pieces and yet its mass doesn’t equal more than half of a real car’s steering wheel mass. Just the space occupied by a car door could hold a truck load of folded moving parts inside. Imagine how many little moving parts they could fit in a real car. -

The Aim for the Top! Gunbuster Thread v2.0
Twoducks replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
This toy is so good that I keep forgetting that it’s formed from two separate pieces. -
Got my SOC Gunbuster yesterday… WOW! I felt like a kid opening this thing (and overwhelmed with all the stuff that came in the box ). The figure itself is imposing but when you add the display base it dominates the room. It’s really fun to transform too. As others have said, it’s an engineering wonder right down to the tail fins on BM 1. These little things even feel like they click into place when you move them even though they aren’t in any kind of special joint. And boy is this thing heavy! The non-transforming feet look great but they do have a very difficult time holding Gunbuster in some poses. The transforming ones do a better job but they still have their limits (holding such a heavy figure isn’t easy). The collider panels tend to pop out rather easily. Once you get to know the toy this is less frequent. Clicking open the ones in the legs when you don’t want to is also common (but again, the more I fondle with the toy the more I prevent this). Also the head could have used more movement (if you could remove the piece in the back of the head you would achieve a bit more freedom). Overall I’m really pleased with this awesome beauty. And more SOC Ideon courtesy of gits_sac http://www.sgcollect.com/forum/index.php?s...st&p=955943

The white and orange one would look so sweet on this beauty.
-
Don't care about the tininess much (24 cm is right by me), but the detail is lacking for the price they are asking (I've seen things one fourth this things size that are chuck full of detail). Lines don’t look sharp… I’ll wait for more pics before I decide to cancel but so far I’d pay no more than $70 for this.

Same here. Cool looking little things
-
Thanks for the review Fort Max! How would you rate the range of movement the figure has? Can you make it do a lot of poses?
-
I had one of those as a kid too . Loved the little thing; for years I thought valks transformed as this toy did (tailfins sliding into the legs and no moving back rack). Turns out the part with the tailfins is already permanently folded in the toy.

Just got my shipping notice Found this "real" size compariso here: http://greattoysonline.proboards43.com/ind...read=1163247484 Original Italian site with more pics: http://www.mechanicalrage.it/foto/articles...20robots/01.htm [attachmentid=38186][attachmentid=38187] No wonder they call these things Super Robots; Real Robot Gundam looks like a toy compared to most of them. My beloved Mazinger Z is a scrawny little runt ... my childhood has been raped and all that The thing is that I don't remember so many differences in sizes in that OVA were Gradzinger, Great Mazinger and Getter Robo fight a prehistoric sea monster.
