  1. This is why I decide not to collect toys from many different sci fi shows or anime shows. It's cost prohibitive to me. I can only afford this stuff because I made a promise to myself not to collect anything else. If these things could be released locally we'd all be much better off, the prices would be cheap, and the companies would be making bigger quanitity. and there would be no scalpers after you missed out on the initial releases. They have us by the balls and they know it. lol
  2. I am a big fan of the idea regardless of how it might seem awkward to people visually. It makes the yf-30 seem versatile. Regults had that idea too. GERWALK mode with that big box starts to make sense now. It's just gthe problem of how loose is it going to get?
  3. Thanks. Added the sdf-1 vid but I already had the yf-19 stuff.
  4. That is interesting. Maybe a reaction by bandai to complaints about the vf-171 cf being bad QC-wise? They were extra careful for the cf this time? Will get one of these soon. CF seems to be easy to obtain.
  5. Thanks for that advice. It's so tiring to us normal people who can't be on the screen all day/night just to buy these things. It's like trying to win a auction. I've decided not to buy anything above the usual prices because to me I want that money to go to arcadia instead even if their prices are getting ridiculous too. (it seems like they need it more than bandai.) Do you recommend buying the VF-25A cannon fodder? Is it plagued with probs like the vf-171 cannon fodder? I plan to buy one with the fast packs.
  6. Thanks for the help. I do have a region free dvd that I bought a long time ago that works on local dvd players so I assume a region free BD will work on any BluRay player. But I had to check before I decide. I hope they continue to release stuff with subs in future. HG for so long accted as a block to macross and it is time the creators/owners/controllers did something to help expand the exposure to global territories. We are going to do it anyway through non-legit means. Might as well receive actual money from the fans outside of the country.
  7. Well remember that bit in the movie top gun when the guy died after he ejected because of technical probs? That was not real either. Come on man. No excuses. Tech isn't as reliable when it hasn't been tried and tested for long time and had everyhthing patch fixed. Gunpod jamming is a major thing. Your life relies on it working. Same thing in the IT industry. It's best to wait until all the early bugs are dealt with and wait rather than be a guinea pig who encounters it the first. The was a whole scare that leading up to the year 2000 that when all machines encounter a y2k bug, society would collapse machines would go crazy and you'd lose all your records and other disasters like hospital equipment failing. Luckily it was all bullshit though. But you know what? Life is cheap in the world of anime where a giant cannon can pretty much destroy armies of aliens in one single shot, maybe the rogue zentradi deserve to get a few kills at the start of the ova after all their losses in the space war I?
  8. Maybe they played a lot of Gears of War or Halo then. There are these enemies in the game that take so many hit to kill that the only logical solution is to NOT shoot the body parts other than the head. hehe think about it: he is not a ordinary man but a super soldier. They must have thought if they can just end it with a few to the face I won't waste bullets and have to reload my weapon all the time and can go home early to watch my daytime soap. "He has regenerating health. I don't want to spend all day shooting shooting shooting and then he gets to wait for a bit and come back with full health." (happens in all the COD games with no explanation whatsoever for those that are not gamers reading this.) If you played halo on the hardest difficulty you pretty much have to deal with damage sponge enemies and very little ammo. Killing cap could be like killing master chief or killing a Brute.
  9. Space War I was all about humanity almost going extinct and pilots getting killed. If you go back to gundam UC and SDFM they both share that theme of "I might be next, will I survive long enough before it is all over?" so the characters react realistically and have to deal with the reality that they may never get to have the girl before they die and the music even reflects that because it has some sad songs and happy ones. You keep watching wondering what is going to happen next. Actually wanting to see how the character matures. Hikaru is a irresponsible guy with no reason to want to be a killer. Then transforms and see killing as a way to protect people and then realises killing is wrong (his friend marries an alien) and softens his stance on the aliens which almost destroyed everything. He starts out just like any teen and grows into an adult throughout the series taking on more responsibility and having to fill the shoes of people that are probably better than him at all the things he thinks he was good at. Macross 7 on the other hand to me at least was way too bright and happy. I respect the opinion but I have to disagree. Loads of people who have seen both Mac 7 and SDFM and DYRL can tell the difference. It's like comparing G gundam to UC gundam. In macross 7 Basara is basically a guy in God mode who has nothing to worry about at all. It's the exact oposite of Amuro ray who started out being ok as a pilot, (but the tech of the V project is what gives him an edge over aces pilot because it is like 5 times better than the enemy robots) slowly got better in skill, and became less cocky after he grows up. There is transformation in the characters attitude based on the events going on around him and you don't get this in macross 7 because it is aimed at kids. Maybe I am biased and I just think anime of the 90s sucks. lol People that bash macross plus can only point to the pointy noses, but they admit the dogfights are great (something you don't get in macross 7) so I will point out the shallow characters of macross 7 that to me is only put there for commercial reasons. (eg putting a guitar to control a plane which is not realistic imo.) For me the 'real' in real robot show is that it is not a super robot show but one where the mass production of robot as war machines means nobody is certain to survive no matter how hi tech things get since everyone has access to it not just one guy. ie like how you see Iron Man being the only one who can use the iron man suit or the character in bubble gum crisis only being the ones having access to the hardsuits etc) But what they did in Macross 7 was cheat by making the pilot so ridiclously good at the fighting that there is no reason for enemies to exist in the show since they are never ever going to be a serious threat. (in that sense it is not the robot that is super it is the pilot that is super. Technically it is a real robot universe but with a perfect pilot.) At least not in the way the zentradi were to human in the original SDFM where you have to accept that aliens will beat the humans trough sheer numbers. Does SDFM have light moments? For sure. Is the war itself a light moment with humanity almost dying off if not for the combination of luck and the work of crews of people? uh nope. The valks are not invinsible. Hikaru met his match with Kamjin. And the battles actually had some suspense because everyone has limits. That's what makes it realistic. There are no god mode pilots apart from max and even he almost got killed in some parts of DYRL where you see him dodging like crazy in desperation to avoid the QRAU which is realistic reaction to an ace pilot who is good. If he was just casually moving around expecting not to get hit all the time it would be different. But it is a battle between two closely matched pilots. As for Plus being light? Nah I don't see the light moment in it. The main character is depressed that she has to give up her dream while the other two are living theirs. And the whole story revolves around something that went on 7 years ago and they are constantly dwelling on that one event. Which we find out is an attempted rape or assault by Guld who goes berserk. I don't think the intention is to take this lightly. Plus to me was pretty dark firstly because it is a ova and secondly the theme of brainwashing by machines is not painting the technology in a light way. It is saying to your face that you are a target by the machines to be replaced and there is even a guy being murdered in the story in order to hide the truth. That's dark to me. It's also realistic show as far as 'real' in a 'real robot' show goes for me. Especially how the characters react. Eg The aliens are not used to restraining the roid rage warrior instinct. Myung clearly shows fear when Guld touches her shoulder in the early episodes indicating that something isn't quite right here. You don't know what that is but you find out through subtle hints in the story as you watch. Guld is crazy. Dyson is merely reckless. They both end up being heroes at the end thanks to the fighting. In other words. Macross Plus is a counterpoint to the other shows: fighting for your dreams is worth it. Fighting in general might not be good but that's how you get stronger and you can use strength for good causes. This is how we prgressed technologically when we compete. In macross 7 most of the story revolves around a similar idea (Basara trying to use music to get them to listen and this is his struggle, his fight) but the presentation of the idea is not as interesting to watch in terms of action. I like action. I like the danger. I want to see robots getting blown up and people combining their effort to succeed instead of a god mode pilot doing absoluetly everything all by himself and virtually eliminating any kind of realism.(ie G gundam) I have no interest in super heroes in science fiction shows.
  10. I know what you mean. Day 1 DLC is very annoying. They know they could haver made it free because it was ready for release but choose not to as a way to further burn a bigger hole in the wallet/credit card. I hate that. Don't forget the "pay to win" business model making its way in normal retail full price games. (Bravely Default on the 3DS is one early example here. Pay real money to hasten the speed at which you can grind) In the old days people had to invest time and effort to progress now you can use money to get ahead earlier than others in beating a game. What is the point of even playing then? lol This kind of stuff makes sense for free to play online gaming but not games you paid money for at the counter. I don't mind stuff like costume packs and cosmetic dlc for those who want that stuff (eg clothing to make your RPG avatar look unique in the sea of identical dudes in the game) but when it is gameplay-related content which affects your power level and stats, well ....that could have been in the game on day of release. They ruined the experience for others. People are slowly waking up to it though. What I do now is wait for DLC to be included in GOTY editions. If I can wait that long.
  11. It so wants to be a destroid by having hip swivel.
  12. More like Bandai is the hipster not us. hehe We are not thier target = they are alternative by making us buy stuff second hand from thrift stores not the usual way.
  13. The enemy imo seem to get neglected from mac 7. Maybe if they did limited release like the vf-4? Whenever I have a display I always like to have the bad guy and good guy face off against each other rather than a group of good guys standing together. It's just more interesting to me. (ie tells a story)
  14. Yep gundam has even infected the dynasty warrior games. They are everywhere man argh. They are breeding. What if version 1 toys of the next tv series turn out bad due to rushing them out to market in time?
  15. I don't expect them to care and know I am not their target market. I actually just wish arcadia had the freedom to make toys to compete with them. That's all. If they can sell overall more toys that way without cannibalising each other's profits then everyone is more happy. Since bandai "don't care about dudes from overseas not buying their stuff" then all the more reason to wish another toy company could release toys from the shows that does care about fans from all over the place. For example when bandai did the monster, I thought it blew the old yamato toy out of the water. So much better. Would it hurt bandai if arcadia could have a crack at the mac F monster now that the monster is out of production and no one can buy it anymore? Would love to see mac f toys of the lesser shown things. 1/60 Qrea for instance. You can't really say it would hurt them much since they are big company with many different toylines, and they got gundam to milk. This is why I am sad that hi metal died. I have seen the Vf-1 countless times when yamato had the v2 1/60 but to have it in smaller scale to me was very interesting. It's high quality toy at such a tiny size. 1/100. Exactly what I wanted to see because you can have them displayed with the bigger mecha like the monster. (this is the direction yamato should have gone down instead of GNU) You can't say it was harming yamato since it was different enough in design to be worth checking out. Every company has done vf-1. So I wish every company could start doing mac F toys now. Do you agree? More money = more happiness for all businesses. (unless you are some scalper trying to resell stuff at premiums) If you just waste the license it feels like nobody is happy. We see so many variation of the VF-1 over the years. It's time for himetal VF-25 and Arcadia versions of mac F at 1/60. (maybe in 5 years perhaps?) It's because they don't care that's why you got the version 1 VF-25. The question is are you (the guys in japan) better off with more competition or less competition? It's not just about people who are living outside of japan. I would imagine that the japanese fans care about the toys not being crap or hard to obtain too. What happens to those who did not get the time to snatch up exclusives but have the money to buy it? The result is they will spend that money on other things from other companies.(namely gundam toys/models lol) Big West loses out. Macross loses out. Fans get angry. (we are not angry for the sake of hoping to get bandai to care for us we are angry because we know they don't care. Does that make sense? Telling us that hating them to get them to care is pointless. We are not hating them to get them to care. We are hating them because they don't care and wish the situation can change so others can start giving us even better products and the license is not wasted. It does not mean we stop buying bandai because of "teh hate", but we continue to buy bandai while at the same time buying other companies stuff too which raises the overall profit and value of macross as a property as more money flows to the owners of the property.)
  16. I still have mine but I am not happy at how it can barely stand up. It's really more because of the design of this mech with the big backpack. Looks cool if you just stand it against the wall to support its back though. And it's 1/60 so it goes well with the v2/160 vf-1. I wonder why arcadia won't revisit enemy mecha? No variable glaug. Or macross 7 enemies. Nobody like the alien mechs? To me the alies seem a lot more sophisticated in their body design. When you contrast zentradi mechs with human destroids you will see what I mean. While the humans like boxy ltank-looking robots, the aliens prefer the smoother and more curvy look. (similar to the hardsuits in bubble gum crisis) Maybe they don't fly as well in atmosphere to valks which are based on real aircraft but they are a space fighting aliens so that's why I like their mecha still. The circular look of the regult is one example. A rounder shape has stronger structure than a boxy shape as the rounded frame support itself from impact at all sides in 3d dimension. In space you will be bumping in to things from all angles as you slide all over the place. All zentradi mecha imo have a more robust design structurally. Look at VF-4. Nice in an atmosphere but it's pointy and stuff. No curves. Looks like it would snap in half easily. Variable glaug would probably kick its butt at close range unless you are Max piloting it. Probably snap it with its claws. Come one you saw what happened in SDFM when Britai ripped a VF-1 chestplate off merely with his bare hands when trying to catch hikaru? It makes the human craft look fragile. Now imagine what a zentradi power armour would do? Do I need to convince you any further why Arcadia should being making variable glaug immediately? thought not. hopefully they decide on this one day along with VF-2SS. *drool*
  17. They make gundam much easier to buy too. So it's like an annoying troll. Look at hlj tv show dedicated to building gundam model kits. Yuck. Imagine if they devoted half of that time covering macross toys? Loads more interest would build up for this show and bandai would sell more macross toys but they probably just fear making macross too big since gundam is their baby. If profits for macross are too big, gundam profits might even fall. That's my theory. I think if Big West let two companies develop 1/60 toys for mac f it would not cannibalise each other, rather they would make twice as much money. Why do I say that? Because at least we fans could buy the actual mac f toys right? (if arcadia had the license) Big West should consider having two lines: one by bandai and the other by Arcadia just as a test. It sounds crazy but if sales overall double for macross toys (as opposed to one company's toy sales being half due to the other toys company's sales increasing by being in competition) then they are better off overall due to enough supply to meet demand right? If I'm wrong just go back to one toy company again.
  18. I thought it would be a good time to start a thread about Bandai. In the spirit of the "why do you hate GERWALK so much?" thread I thought it would be funny to put a Bandai one. So why do you hate Bandai? What did they ever do to you? Are you all jealous of Gundam or something because it is more popular with more robots to buy? My reasons: -their toys of the macross shows are harder to get despite being cheaper on release. It's almost like they sell the toys to the scalpers instead of customers or something. -The toys should be packed with the super parts but they are not and require you having to hunt it down. Ridiculous. I hate having to hunt stuff. Just let me order it like any other toy. -They only do non-risky stuff from the popular shows. (and only focus on heroes - look how long it took to give us the vf-171 CF) -They cancelled HiMetal. Those are the reasons I hate Bandai. Why do you hate them? If you don't hate them how come you don't? They actually make it hard for you to give them your money. What kind of a business is that? Where the hell is Ozma VF-25S re-issue for instance? He is popular character but no announcement in sight. Don't fans of macross frontier have any way of communicating their needs to bandai so they can give out responses? At least Arcadia/Yamato responds to stuff and cares how fans are reacting. When the YF-30 comes out I will dread the thought of having to stay up all night to order this. I only realy half want it because of that. Isn't there a simpler way to get it similar to how arcadia do it where you just preorder the item without having to stay up? I like the toys they make but do not like the whole hunting aspect of the collecting.
  19. Watched it and loved the fight scenes in it. The only bad bit was when captain america was pinned down by gunfire and all he could do was use the shield to block fire. Should have grabbed a weapon of a dead guy and shot people with the gun while using the shield to block. not run forward with the sheild. It kind of reminds me of when the jedi have to fight those drones with the rapid fire blasters and all they do is deflect shots. Waste of time and energy. Just hide behind something and grab a blaster and shoot back FFS. lol Stop being a show off.
  20. About Street Fighter Ultra I really wish capcom ported this to portables like Vita and 3DS. Arcadey Fighting games feel right on these machines because of the limited battery life of them. I play Super Street Fighter 4 on 3ds on a daily basis.
  21. I think Arnold should play John Conner and this time they get a terminator from the past to kill him because the past is more advanced than the future which is a post apocalyptic nightmare in the modern times where people are using clubs to bash each other over the head to win wars. (because nobody trusts the machines anymore society has gone back to using human slaves) But since the robots of the past have slower CPU arnold can outrun it and the assassin robot is basically the same as a modern day robot of now. (It's not sophisticated enough to be able to threaten the human race just more like a serial killer which the police could probably handle if they believed the threat was serious enough. This way when Arnold tells people its from "a future" (nobody knows which since it is not certain if they can time travel, it might just be a secret weapon that is highly sophisticated) nobody believes him and he has to fight it one to one. Much like he did against the predator alien in the first predator movie. But seriously. They need to bring back old robots back. When the robots started shapeshifting that is when terminators became too sophisticated. The robots purpose is to blend in with humans, kill a bunch of them and like a terrorist bomber commit suicide. All arnold would need is standard explosive weapons to deal with it and then crush it with a sledgehammer to finish it off. Arnold at his old age is probably better playing as a good guy not the bad guy. I don't know about thee rest of you but I think the charm of the original is that it was a good low budget flick. I think if they remade it the feel of the original would be lost. It was very dark and today's stuff is bright and sunny. If you were to rewatch it it would be so dark in some scenes that you couldn't make out any detail. That's because the original only ever thought of terminator as assassins that sneak up on you from shadows to come from nowhere, not frontline warriors. T2 kinda transformed them into undead skeleton robots that are shiny and naked and don't even worry about blending into the background anymore. It just wasn't as dark as T1.
  22. Arcadia for sure. It's better right across the board. Most striking is the locking chest and side view in fighter mode. It feels closer to being like a toy more than a display piece. If you do get the old yamato off second hand seller, bargain them down as much as possible. Out of the three yamato macross plus 1/60 toys the yf-19 is considered the worst. 1/60 VF-11 being the best. Save your money on not buying yamato yf-19 and see if you can find a yamato 1/60 vf-11 instead. (C or B doesn't matter they are both great but B has better gunpod imo) VF-11 Fast packs = super easy to install too. (Magnets) I sold my old YF-19 before buying this one. Cleared some space and made another collector of transforming vehicles happy. The main complaints are things that involve: -ankles (which was also a complaint of the VF-19 too but people hoped they changed the design by now but they didn't - this is a valid complaint for those who are scared it will fall and break itself when you shake the desk/shelf display while it is in battroid mode) -price (VF-19S people have said feels more high quality in plastic but was cheaper than this) -lack of tampo prints for premium toy (time consuming - same thing happened with the VF-17) -no stand (some believe this takes priority over the missiles as you did not see these in the ova anyway and probably would have suited being in a seperate accessories pack that has limited run - I mean even the Arm launcher was shown in the anime so why not have that instead of missiles?) -wing gimmick (some feel that having a locked wing with no hispeed gimmick is better than having the gimmick with the chance of it getting loose over time) -some paint scrape during transformation process on some toys (can't say if this is true for all) -gunpod loses a tiny detail -some guys don't like how the FP attach because it is time-consuming and felt loose when attached But apart from that, the toy is great. When we are comparing this toy and nitpicking, we are comparing the toy to the Yamato VF-19 from macross 7 which is considered the best yamato made toy before they died. (along with the VF-4 which people are hoping will get a re-release again) Not the old YF-19 from macross plus. The difference between the old and the new yf-19 is like night and day. I think one of the most important things is how it feels in your hands. Overall much more expensive feeling and the poses for battroid mode are better. Just make sure to consider that this is competing with the still available VF-19 toys too. You are paying a premium for the premium. And that doesn't mean you are getting ripped off but it does mean you have to consider that there are just as complex toys as this still floating around out there you can obtain for less money. (which some consider having higher grade plastic, perhaps because macross 7 was more popular as a show in japan and perhaps this meant they invested more into that one)
  23. Please tell him to make us a Genesis Climber Mospeada Legoiss. Not a kit. It's the closest thing to macross jet without being a macross mech that bandai has all the licenses for. haha (they covered pretty much everything under the yamato company name, so what's left?) When the next tv series comes out bandai will have all the rights to do those toys too along with continuing to have all the frontier stuff. At some point Arcadia will have to limit themselves to just doing man dolls or giant gunpods.
