  1. Saw the demo first episode. whoa this is starting to really go back to macross zero levels of magic again. Remember the floating rocks and the shamanic priestess levitating and the phoenix valkyre rising from the sea? I think of this new show as the public usage of that but more with science than magic. Face it the two things are starting to converge. If they itroduce another ghostbusters-like mad scientist this could be renamed the official "macross 7 II" What would be interesting is if the magic girls were in fact cyborgs so they don't care about danger as they can upload their consciousness to backup bodies. Unlike Basara they can die each episode in horrific ways for humour but they come back again in new body to show that thier songs will live on long after they die. Boomerang microdrones could be brainwave controlled and act like extensions of their own body. So they have direct connection to machines and move with quick reflexes to any danger and this allows for complex group formation. The skills that basara needed as a human are like second nature to cyborg now because of the new technology. If mac 7 was about healing people and inspiring them to create something for themselves so they don't eed to leech of other people like parasites, and macross plus is about doing things that have never been done before and taking risks to not be a derivative person who just copies existing things like the AI machines which have no soul, ...then I think delta will be about tolerating differences in cultures and the co-existence of different philosophy in how to fight against the hatred people have for each other. Sometimes there simply isn't a bad guy and it's all just your imagination so you become the enemy you claim to be fighting against. Just because something is different, and that different thing is not liked by you, does not mean it's bad. For all we know the var outbreak might be something beneficial to some people while negative to others since how we react to things is different. We are all unique in how we consume culture. You might hate loud music and see it as offensive and harmful to you (perhaps the lyrics of the author of the music are opinions you don't agree with) while others feel energised by it if they need to let off steam and the music gives them thier fix which prevents them from becoming violent. You may not like porn and find it offensive but those who are single with no prospects of finding a date are going to use porn to get off on the perverse in order to get some release without which might turn a pervert into a rapist. You may not like violence but violence is necessary to protect innocent people. All things which are seen as negatives to you could be positives to others. You may not like the thing you consume, but that doesn't mean its bad. It's ok to personally hate something but it should not be an excuse to destroy it. Perhaps you change your opinion over time and change? And like a zentradi, an awakening happens in you and you understand the other perspective and your views about something are not the same anymore? It could be about tolerating others rather than winning. (maybe have both sides kill each other off as a twist to all other macross shows beforehand and this leads into the reason the humans were alreay fighting wars on earth long before the aliens ever came to earth. That humans still can't get along with each other. So who are we to assume we are actually "good" when we were killing ourselves on earth so none of the old problems that happened on earth (way back at the beginning of SDF M when we were fighting global wars) were solved when we started to colonise other planets in space? Just because humans left earth and went into space that doesn't mean all those old problems of intolerance for differences in culture, race, etc and the natural greed to want to control others....were solved when we were given awesome technology. In fact it would only magnify those old traits of humans. And so the 3 way wars idea would be a great way to explain this. There are no purely good guys, just different perspectives. And the fighting is just disagreements in who is best rather than for bringing about peace. The only survivors would be the outsider, the apathetic ones who can look at this from a non-biased viewpoint because they have no stake in any of it. Sort of like the comedian george carlin lol. The main character who is happy just living his life doing whatever he feels like for himself without any selfish ambition or desire to outdo others and measure his dick with others is the anti hero. He doesn't matter. He is just the cannon fodder with lots of luck who happened to be in the right places at the right times rather than because he is the most skilled. (the anti thesis of macross where we like skilled pilots like Max Jenius because he is so good) The cannon fodder gets no love in any macross show, but this guy would be a cannon fodder who just fights to survive the crazy things all the anime characters around him do. (he's us - we don't care about pop idols, celebrity gossip, fashion or love triangle because the formula is stale but we accept it as the backbone of macross existence lol) The magical girls are the true heroes while the cannon fodder is the sidekick and only out of boredom does he decide to go along as unemployed guys with no skills are really not in a position to choose. And that's it. He's that ace pilot that rose up in the ranks because all the good pilots died killing each other and what was left were crap enemy pilots for average joes to fight. Due to constant fighting there was a massive skills drain as the best pilots are all dead - this would be a first for macross where the best and most skilled don't actually live - it would satisfy the thirst everyone had to see characters like Basara in macross 7 ACTUALLY DIE and not have plot armor protecting them every single episode
  2. Wow I love both Monster Hunter and macross. Seems like a cool combo. Perhaps it' time they actually put mechas (in some primitive form like escaflowne so it fits in-universe) in the monster hunter games for special boss fights?
  3. Wow finally some info about this series. Looks like anti un is back which means good looking bad guy planes. Perhaps the tech is different so the mechs have different fighting philosophies too? (sort of like how zentradi like close range combat more, so in this they have unique strengths that nun pilots don't have to make the ace pilots of the hero side seem more like the underdogs this time?) Will we finally get destroids (similar to the konig monster) that transform? Everyone misses ground mechs. We saw the octos in macross zero, so maybe these new guys have more surprise transforming mechas that are not valks?
  4. The arcadia looks better in robot mode. Not as posable but better. This is the mode Arcadia focused on in the spirit of heroic looking lineart. The bandai looks good but it seems more for the fighter mode fan. Personally I prefer beefy look. Hopefully yf-21 is revisited again by arcadia but with focus on robot mode. The muscled look has always been more appealing to me. It reminds me of what happened with 1/60 v2 vf-1 yamato. They looked more balanced compared to the 1:48 vf-1 just so the robot mode can look better. That's the direction arcadia went and it works. If they wanted to go back to making it skinny again they could but it would not have the muscular look of the battroid mode in lineart. YF-19 is meant to be the alpha male of the M+ series with powerful presence next to vf-11 and has a wild appearance. YF-21 is more like a ninja I guess with stealth as the focus. (skinny frame, hidden compartments, shedding it's legs gimmick to make quick escapes etc) One is chaotic and rebellious with beefy shoulders and flashy skirt armor, and the other one is sneaky and careful with hooded helmet to conceal its head. All it needs is clown hands that look robotic to complete the look. Since the yf-19 series doesn't have gbp armor like vf-11, I prefer it as a beefy framed robot. But I like the idea of the vf-11 being skinny since it can wear full armor.
  5. The GN-u was competing against the Revoltechs which had the super posability. All I wish for was they made 1/100 just like what himetal is today. This way you could do the bad guys easily since they wouldn't be absolutely huge toys. (my biggest problem with Q Rau from yamato is its just too massive at 1.60 and the legs could barely hold the weight of the backpack thing but at smaller size it would be good with stand) Then display bad guys with the good guys fighting against each other. All those mechas you wouldn't buy at huge scale (like the gluag) would look ok at small size since if you think about it, the zentradi are giants and their mechas look more basic in general with less details than a human micron mecha with loads of little pieces involved. Then if you wanted to make more money you release zentradi troops with their guns and riot shield things (from DYRL) at the same scale as the valks. The idea is that with smaller toys you can create battlefield scene with all your collection of toys. For istance have Hikaru vs Kamjin in his Glaug. Have Roy vs female Zentradi grunt in the green Qrau. Have Max in his Vf-1J against Milia in her Red Qrau from DYRL etc You get the point. If everything is tiny and small it means more can be displayed at once. You get less detail but you need less detail when camera is further back. So you could have team of brown VF-1 CF fight a team of Regult (the very first battlescene when the giants land on earth) . Posing would be easy since they are lighter so there is less chance of floppy limb syndrome on the toys that you get with the larger scale stuff. They do this with all the tv series (SDFM, M7, MacF, Macross Delta) and they can make a lot of money for fans of the series in general. At the time the 1.60 yamato was cheap, but if Arcadia do it at the same scale as Bandai (1/100) they can cover everything. And then sell zentradi characters and detroids. These would be the "GI-Joes" of the macross toys. They could try to cover all the major people like Britai, Kamjin, Exedol etc. You could have the generic zentradi rogue power armor shown in macross plus OVA for example. The 1/60 line can co-exist with 1/100. Those who can't afford the bigger stuff would have cheaper alternatives. (that is if the 1/60 bandai stuff gets too high for them) The bandai monster from mac f is already 1/100 so it all makes sense to me.
  6. I agree with this explanation. We should look at Arcadia as David and Bandai as Goliath. What allows the little guy to compete is the quality in tiny details. For instance people mention landing gears and pilots look so much better on Arcadia than on Bandai. It's one way for the little guy to beat them by being more accurate. When you are a giant you make yourself a bigger target for David to hit your huge head with a rock and get a headshot. Bandai makes loadsa things but can they listen to diehard fan demand for tiny little details that most normal people who just watch the shows casually would not even notice? Bandai doesn't need to raise price since they can fall back on so many other things like gundam for bread and butter income.
  7. News of the Reactive Armor has made me happy. Finally. Now I can justify buying a VF-0S. When is 0S going to be up for preorder? And how much do you predict the reactive armor is going to cost? (got to save) My last arcadia toy was the VF0-D. Since this and the reactive armor never got made during the Yamato years I feel these are worth buying. May skip Shin and the Ghost booster though.
  8. Might buy one. I have the old yamato version. It was a cool toy but the rider could barely fit into the cockpit. Will there ever be an attempt to do the ride armor in mospeada if these sell well?
  9. Yes now I remember.. It was just a case of bad timing. Now is the right time since arcadia are charging an arm and a leg and only releasing 1 new toy per year. For all those who missed out on preorder I feel for you. I never expected it would be hard to obtain like the bigger and more expensive stuff. I missed out too. Now I wonder if that Green Qrau from the tv series will be done? The ones that killed Roy Fokker because he was drunk that day, didn't see the medic to patch his wound and underestimated the feminist aliens. The joints better be good on these little toys. Looking at regult for example, it's got beefy body and skinny legs. I wonder how this will stand up over time? Some people expect to see a pilot figure in them. Are you crazy? The toy might not be able to hold all the weight. I want high posability. It's the one thing they have over larger figures which to be honest are not meant to be played with or handled as much.
  10. It's too expensive. Will wait for reviews before taking any chances. Was hoping Bandai would be the one to give us a mac 2 toy. If there are quality control issues you guys are going to complain hard!
  11. I just don't get it: lot of people expressed hatred for the HiMtal when they first appeared but now all of a sudden interest has come back. If arcadia/yamato had done this line of transformig robots at 1/100 I think they could have made a lot of money. It pisses me off that they chose the GNU idea where you had non-transformig figures. This was at the time revoltech macross toys were the thing. Now bandai are doing it and we get all the cool enemy mecha. Should have listened to me yamato/arcaddia....
  12. Received mine today. Showing my support for Arcadia. Please re-release the VF-1D. It makes total sense now that 0D was released recently. I never got that one when it originally came out. (after all I am a low vis guy and bright orange high vis looks bad in my collection) Hikaru's first valk in the tv series. ....And yes give us those damn side pieces as freebies. Thanks.
  13. I never transform mine. I just leave it in battroid but I love tiny "action figures" of mechs because the smaller size means they scale nice with the enemy and other stuff. I remember when the revoltechs were a thing. They looked cool for small toy but the early ones did not transform. For people who aren't too crazy about proportions these are the solution: you get small size, perfect transformation and from distance they don't look bad. I collect transformers too and find that sometimes the cheaper stuff can look better than the more expensive stuff in robot mode. (eg combiners wars megatron > masterpiece megatron) It's funny how that works out. I think it is good to have two scales for display reason. From a long distance with a squad of guys fighting aliens is better with smaller toys. You can't do this with the high detail 1/60. Stuff like the Monster is just too massive. But its being done at the 1/100 scale! Why? Because some people want to have valks alongside destroids or fighting powered zentradi armors which are too chunky and big in 1/60. I have the 1/60 queadluun rau from yamato and its body is too heavy for the legs to support it. It's hips are loose. This is the problem with 1/60 for enemy mechas. The giants rode in giant-er armors. So the chance of you seeing toys of the bad guys is lowered at large scale since it is so expensive. But as action figures they would be fine. As a little kid I use to make bases for my action figures using boxes and stuff. I guess these smaller toys appeal tto those guys. ie "viewing from long distance" displays.
  14. Valkyries combining in space would be silly but what about the SDF combining in space to form as one giant robot. One ship is the canon, 5 other ships are the body parts. The captain is an AI lifeform similar to sharon apple who gives order to humans and aliens. Then it goes crazy because it hates music and the protoculture arrive to save the day with their magic floating rocks and using the electronic music they devloped as magic spells to cause the AI to experience love. Then the protoculture create cyborg babies with machines by havig sex with the AI in cyberspace, causing human and aliens to get jealous and kill the protoculture for siding with the enemy. (end of all macross and the beginning of japanese robotech) Roy Fokker is cloned and brought back to life and everyone becomes serious but they can get drunk while on missions if they want to because Roy lets them. (as well as grow your hair long so that it covers one eye and gets in the way of your ability to see in 3D)
  15. Looks like a VF-1 to me. lol Maybe you got sent the wrong toy? Will the toy stand up in robot mode without falling? What are the joints like? quality assessment would be nice. Still waiting for mine. Will probably leave it in fighter mode with the VF-4 and yf-30. They all have the delta wing so they are bros.
  16. Wow it's finally coming. Hope its nice and tight in the ankles. That was the biggest complaint of yf-19. Happy to know they are going to do Roy VF-0S too. One thing I like about the old design is how much kibble they don't have compared to newer valks from the frontier era which are starting to get anorexic. And compared to destroid the 80s valk were considered skinny too.
  17. If Arcadia was smart they'd do limited low vis releases of all future vf-0 stuff. I'm never been a fan of white. To me is not representative of what the planes would be if real. They would be metallic but in anime they just make the heroes white because they are good guys. The bad guy (ivanov) gets black to symbolise evil. White knight vs black knight. The greyish colour on roy's VF-1 plane in sdfm is my fave. That plus urban camo gbp makes the robots look more real. I still have my old yamato low vis 1/48 vf-1 and it looks great but a little sticky. The grey skull emblem on the heatshield is how I would envision vf-1 if it existed in real life. But for transformers it is the opposite for me as I prefer the toon colors. Generations grimlock with g1 colours looks better than the video game colours. chrome gold painted chest looks awesome. Reminds me of when I was kid and the toys had shiny paint. The first starscream masterpiece release in low vis looked bad to me compared to his cartoon colors. But in macross I like the low vis vf-1, vf-25s, vf-11b cannon fodder and vf-4. All the grey stuff. I wish vf-0d had a faded blue paint. And the rest that wasn't blue was metallic/grey.
  18. I think collectors will see new OS as a good excuse to reboot thier macrosss zero collection because of the better joints etc. I think the made to order thing suits me fine. One release of a new toy a year also helps the poor budget-conscious guy save up. If they were to try to release it all at once they would end up driving the community broke imo A more durable but more expensive toy is what toy collectors wish for. (bandai is flooding the market with too much stuff and I doubt people have enough room to display all at once hehe) They can't compete with bandai on price but they can go for small details that fans of toy collection look for to develop a reputation amongst core fanbase. If they did another limited release of vf-4 I think those who missed out would buy. Repaint of this is what people want. I noticed in macross 7 manga there is milia flashbacks of this mecha featured a lot. Do licenses for manga exist like for tv show? For instance if a new mecha appears that does not appear in tv show or movie in a comic book, can toy company get license for that mech?
  19. It would be good if they did a SDFM side story movie showing those guys fighting in GBP all the time against regults and glaug. it would be a docu-drama of "the untold heroes of space war 1" who died fighting the losing battle before the laser bombardment of earth and their last minutes of life before the great destruction. (kinda like the characters in Halo Reach) It would be told from the last surviving cannon fodder dressed up in a GBP who was safe because he was late to battle due to technical problems with his valk which delayed him. He'd be like kakizaki in reverse. He would be always getting into trouble but lucky to get into minor trouble because it would prevent his death if he was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time if he'd be like the average cannon fodder pilot and march to his death. And he'd be the only cannon fodder you'd see in a macross anime that never gets killed because he is too crazy to die. Unlike Dyson he wouldn't survive based on skill but only on luck. And yes his fave colour was brown. Nobody respected him but he would live to tell the tale of the other stupid guys who thought they were going to kick alien butt, but who were ordered to go into losing fights by their superiors that didn't care about their men because they didn't have fancy red stripes or skulls on their cockpit heat shields.
  20. A redo of yf-21 with the whole "bulky robot" look? (milk this mold for vf-22 toys from mac7) They did it with yf and vf-19, next is yf-21/vf-22. Then a bulky looking vf-11b and then vf-11c complete with full armor and giant gunpod and ratcheted elbow joint to hold it up? YF-21 was great slim fighter plane. Yamato at the time wanted it to match the images of it in the anime where it looks just like any normal stealthy plane. But we all know that pics of it in battroid mode makes it a lot more muscular and "alpha male". It's time for them to do to yf-21 and vf-11 what they suceeded in doing to the yf-19 and vf-19 fire and blazer valk: Give them steroids for robot mode fans. Remember when people laughed at how skinny the 1/48 vf-1 was with its tiny hands which looked like they belonged to a girl? And how oversized the gbp was? And then came 1/60 v2 VF-1 to fix this problem? Well they can revisit vf-11 and yf-21 again I say. (legs on the 1/60 yf-21 are too skinny. Everyone can see this)
  21. With all this love for gbp I am sad that we never got full armor for vf-11. No respect for the cannon fodders.
  22. Would love to buy this but short on money for now. What are the chances there will still be some after the preorder period? Hikaru is major character so I hope these will still be available to us folk who have to save up still. edit: Oh yeah and does this transform into all 3 modes? Just kidding
  23. I would buy arcadia repaint but probably won't need the extra missiles again. Instead they should just throw in the stand this time...
  24. You could buy the new transformers jetfire toy. He is a jet and he transforms. And he is even cooler than a valkyrie since he doesn't need an annoying fleshling human to pilot him since he is a living being. Just put all the macross marking on him. edit: don't put the gunpod under the nose peaugh! That looks stupid. It belongs on the fast pack to mimmic strike cannon. Much cooler that way..
