Your most recent Macross or toy purchase! General thread.
Scyla replied to Gakken85's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
So July was a super expensive month. I got the: VF-19ADVANCE VF-171 Itasha VF-1J GBP MB GoldFrame SRC GaoFighGar FansToys Sever TF Cloud Shockwave FansProject Quake But out of all of these I think the toy I played the most with is a $3 Mega Blocks Halo Minifig I got out of a blind bag. These are just so fun to play with and I want more!!!! At least the two with the energy swords from the Bravo Wave. I also really like the Cloud Shockwave. The vibrant purple color just pops. I haven't read the packed in comic yet (that is Japanese with English subtitles) so I'm not sure if Hellwarp is enough of a Skywarp homage to get it for my Skywarp collection. [edit:] Seems I'm out of luck. On page 4 of the comic it states that: "Megatron evolved his man Skywarp into Hellwarp with his paranormal power." Oh well.... ....I really like that the comics have English text in them. Something I always missed from the Alternity comics. -
Gundam Figure Thread - Newtype GN-002
Scyla replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I opened my MB Gold Frame today that came from HLJ. HOLY Char Aznable what an amazing figure. I can't tell you how in awe I am about the quality of the Gold Frame. He has a lot of mold release on the glossy black parts but that is easy to deal with. Overall this figure is great. From the first images posted here I though he will have a lot of unpainted "gold" plastic but nearly every gold part is either picked out in anodized gold die-cast or paint. The only spot I could find was the peg hole for the backpack so that is covered. The figure has a great heft to it and lots of moving part. The only annoying piece I could make out is a small cover piece that is only held in place by to nubs and it is way too easy to detach while handling the toy (because I tend to grab it in that slot when posing it). I'm so on board for the Red and Blue Frame. I hope they announce a Blue Frame 2nd L version with giant sword before the regular Blue Frame is released because I'd like to have some variety in my Metal Build collection. I want to keep it to the three Frames from Astray so I can focus my collection on Valkyries and MP Transformers but I''m not sure if I could resist a reissue of the MB Gundam 00 suits. At the moment I feel that the Gold Frame is up there in the top three of my collection pieces (at least in terms of quality) together with the VF-19S and the MP-10B. I really wish the MP Transformers had this kind of fit and finish throughout the line. I think from all my Transformers the Alternity cars are closest in quality to the Metal Build. Of course it is very likely that I'm talking while I'm high on a mix of endorphins and plastic fumes so take my report with a grain of salt.- 6025 replies

I finished my RG Justice Gundam today. Now the wait begins for good weather so I can apply a top coat to my RG Strike Freedom, RG Justice Gundam and MG Sazabi. With the coating done my Gunpla season ends for me until the winter starts where I have an RG Strike Gundam + Skygrasper and an MG Hi-Nu Gundam Ver. Ka lined up. I wonder if I should build a RG Freedom Gundam to complete the RG Seed lineup but I'm a little fed up with the Seed frame. They are just all so similar. Maybe I can upgrade my Motorola Razr V3 to a decent smartphone so I can make and post a few images here more easily without relying on a camera. Shooting pictures the old-fashioned way is just way to time consuming and exhausting. Anyway, has someone built all the Seed RGs and felt fed up with the build and if so what to to about it. It will be some time until I start another Gunpla build so maybe the feeling goes away by then.

Well if you put it that way...... ....I will list the YF-29B on my todo list. However a YF-25 has a higher priority because of the unique head sculpt.

Needs more VF-17 Valkyries. That is a great display. I really like the Emerald Force shelf. -
I would have much more interest in this toy if it came with the YF-29 Isamu Custom head so I could convince myself that this is a head variant I don't have. I think the glossy Isamu colors didn't work for the YF-29. Sadly a YF-29 30th Anniversary is already in my possession. The bayonet is coll though.

To be perfectly honest I would rather buy a 1/60 VF-2SS from Arcadia or Bandai. However I think this won't happen ever. If we are lucky we might get this one out and than whole toy line is canceled. It is still possible that Evolution Toys sees a lack of preorders and cancel the line before the VF-2SS is released. So since the chances of a better version of this Valkyrie are zero to none I won't pass on the one we might get. If a miracle happens and Arcadia picks up the license or Bandai puts one out in their Hi Metal R line I will also buy a version. I know it makes no sense to some of you to invest in a toy that has so many blatant issues and I would like to have a version that is more like a Arcadia/Bandai YF-19/VF-19 than the old Yamato 1/72 YF-19 but we won't get one. However I like the design of the VF-2SS enough (actually, I really love it) to invest in such a risky bet.

I ordered one. I will also order the SAP packs and at least a version with a blue stripe. However the hinge on the nacelles has to go!

Macross Δ (Delta) - announcement thread
Scyla replied to renegadeleader1's topic in Movies and TV Series
I'm not arguing that there couldn't have been a better integration of the wings in Battroid-Mode. For example I think it would be infinitely more awesome if the wings on the VF-25 could wing in the other direction an enclose the cockpit area as a carapace and have the wing tips collapse to cover the bottom. For the YF-29 the engine nacelles would move to the back of the Battroid to function as a jetpack etc. I personally think we will see large angelic wing packs on the Delta designs because as you observed the wing kipple gets more excessive over time. I think maybe some sort of wings that feather out like the Strike Freedom wings and reveal an array of speakers much like the VF-11MAXL Sound Booster.- 2715 replies

Great haul. Sadly MP Convoy and Streak are the best toys in the line and every other release has been a slight downfall with MP Starsaber being the worst collectible of the whole Masterpiece imho. To its credit Starsaber is a great toy. Enjoy MP-10 it is always a joy to look at and to play with. -
On this one the stripe is gray. It has the same color as the trim on the plane (the one that is red on the Alto Custom). On the CF the stripe has the same color as the highlights on the rest of the Valkyrie. I assume you have the CF so you know what color they are. Sadly they are not close in color. On the Alto one the stripe is red and on the Luca one it is green so It seems that the ones form this version would stick out the least.

The 21 has its fair share of wing kipple just not on its back. The VF-17 also has magic shrinking wings on its back so I don't know if this is a fair comparison for a Valkyrie (the 3D model of the Messiah) that can't shrink in the same way the drawn VF-17 can. If you take the Yamato toys of the YF-21 and the VF-171 you can see that the wings are still a big problem when it comes to cohesive shapes in Battroid-Mode. However I think Kawamori could make more cohesive shapes if he wanted to. A prime example would be the tail fins of the YF-30 that don't slide upwards in the main wing area. But Kawamori loves stuff that hangs of the robots. I have a MP Seeker as a proof that is not confined to Macross. From the Frontier era I especially love the Lucifer due to the way the wings curl up onto themselves. The "devils tail" negates the effect though. But I think it was a conscious decision by the designer not to have the same shield deployment as the messiah so.... ...I think as long as Kawamori is designing Valkyries we're gonna have with lots of kipple that transform from gorgeous looking planes into plausible looking robots.- 2715 replies

I think what is hallow are the forearm guards. I hope that the hole doesn't got through all the way where the fists store. I still don't understand why Bumblebee has hallow forearms. If the played a bit with the dimensions he could've easily had hands and wrists that rotate 90 degrees like the one from MP Starscream. No flimsy panel doors or easily breaking parts but still filled out forearms.- 17164 replies

Yeah I know. I just want to handle one to get a feeling for the toy.

It also seems like the pelvis doesn't juts out enough.

I'd go for the VF-19ADVANCE because the set has bundled everything you need inside it. The add-on sets from Plus plus ( ) the shoulder armor and boosters from the second Frontier movie. On the other hand is the Messiah the iconic Valkyrie from the Frontier era so as a fan I would like to have at least one representation of it in my collection. However the VF-25S looks naked without the Armored Parts which are super expensive at the moment. If you like to gamble you could hope for a Armored VF-25S bundle from Bandai. It seems likely to me that the reissue a bunch of stuff to bridge the gap to the new Macross series. The VF-19 has a bunch of cool trick in its transformation but since it will mostly stay in Fighter-Mode this might not be a criteria for you.

I'd like to own a V1 VF-25 out of curiosity. Sadly I only have Renewal versions.

The big ass hinges of the engine nacelles remind me of the metal hip bar on the old Takatoku Chunkey Monkeys. Wouldn't it be nice if the bar is chromed in silver? I'm still in for at least one and after listening to the most recent Macross Speaker Podcast I really hope the toy line survives long enough to release the chunk for the VF-2SS (aka SAP Packs). Who am I kidding, I'm in for the whole squad if they make it. Well maybe except for the yellow one. I also want to own a Metal Siren and an Icarus but only for the novelty of it.

It is the second, medium armor piece and I have two marked with an R. I installed them both and couldn't spot a difference in Fighter-Mode. Everything was able to align correctly. Since Actars video also only shows an R marking on the part I was curious if there is really an L on the other piece and if there is a molded difference between the L and R parts (and what the difference is). On the other hand maybe I don't want to know and keep the illusion up that every VF-19ADVANCE unit has two R marked pieces. As for the black paint smear I used one of Gundam@EFSF images and circled the area: Is there a good way to remove the black paint without damaging the tan paint underneath?

Macross the Ride Valkyries. Breras Ghost Drones are high on my list too as well as the Battle Frontier and Battle Galaxy. The Quarter is not very appealing to me due to the lackluster design but I'd bite for a movie colored version (the one Bandai released is from the show right?). The colors of the Quarter are too muted for my likings, especially the ones on the flight deck.

Bandais VF-19ADVANCE is not just good. It's good enough!

It is a shame that the Quakewave reissue still has those shiny metal leg parts. If all those parts where painted in a lighter/darker purple color and not shiny metal I would've probably ordered another one.- 9279 replies
