Rob Liefeld's Teen Titans
the white drew carey replied to terry the lone wolf's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
While it's true that the guy seems to lack any sense of proportion whatsover, he's got a knack for details. And he's certainly better than A LOT of the guys Marvel's had doing the Spider-Man books lately (Humberto Ramos, Fransico Herrera, etc). Oh, how I long for the days when Jim Lee actually drew, when Wildstorm was part of Image, and when Brett Booth did Backlash. Now there was a guy who could draw... He doesn't have a knack for details at all. He has a knack for throwing in mounds of rippling muscle where no rippling muscle should exist. It's not detail, it's overkill. Superhero comics have always been about over-proportioning the heroes themselves, but this guy is just whacky. -
I'm so excited for this movie! It looks to carry the same sense of light humor that made the show stand out among others. Hooray!

Comicaze- Your argument actually backs up the point that the name blockade runner is a nickname. Nowhere in the link you posted does it say "these boats were all derivations of the Blockade Runner-class ship". Adding in the information about the Ironclads doesn't help, did both sides during the Civil War create a new class of ships and name them the Ironclad-class? -
Yes. It will. And for the record, I've heard this exact argument three times now. N64 and GameCube were both Nintendo's last system. A few people said it in the SNES days, but they were all die-hard drooling idiot Sega fanboys, so their opinion can be dismissed. Time sure does tell. I'm still holding on to the possibility that this new VirtualBoy is going to be Nintendo's last system.

Wes and I are in the same boat. With my wife in grad-school and the job market here in central PA being crap, we don't really have the luxury to buy new systems when they come out. We'll usually pick them up after the first or second price-drop. I love video games, but I'm not that into them that I can justify dropping $300-$400 on a new system. The one thing I hate, and call me old school on this, is the concept of the all-in-wonder system. I don't want my Xbox to have a removable HD that plays MP3's, washes the dog and reminds you when your next dentist appointment is. I want an Xbox that plays games, damnit! I've already got an all-in-wonder system- It's called my computer. I simply want my consoles to play games, and that's it. That's the beauty of a console system- it's a cheap computer that does one thing simply and really, really good... play games. WDC, I had no idea that you were so close! Where exactly in central PA are you? I'm really close to Latrobe, where they brew Rolling Rock (maybe an hour east of Pittsburgh). 'Kay, back on topic. I agree, I want to buy a game console to play games. That's one of the reasons why I'm so dissapointed with the DS... most of the games have been crap at best. The only two games I really got into were Feel the Magic and WarioWare, but both of those were like sweet flings. That said, the fact that the PS2 was backwards compatible gave me something to play with for the year or so it took to start getting games out for it (the first games I truly enjoyed were Z.O.E and Onimusha). Also, the fact that the PS2 played DVDs got me to buy my first DVD. Nevermind the fact that I rarely play PSone games now, and I have a much better stand-alone DVD player. Likewise with the PSP... I bought it because I'm in love with the idea of playing console-quality games on a handheld, not to mention that gorgeous screen. But since it can, I've been converting my fansubbed avi files to mp4 and watching them on the PSP. Now with the Xbox 360... sure, I don't really feel like springing extra for features I'm not too interested in. But, I do want a hard drive for Live, downloadable content, and because I'd rather pay extra for a hard drive than extra for memory cards. If it happens to double as an mp3 player, so much the better. Mike- I'm in State College while the Mrs. attends grad school. I just hope the new Xbox doesn't pull a PS2 with their HD.

I thought that the games were more official than the EU, but not the full-canon. Anyhow, I cite this source: http://www.starwars.com/databank/starship/...veiv/index.html On the official Star Wars site, it explains the "blockade runner" moniker fairly clearly. And although it doesn't specifically state the ship's class, I highly doubt blockade runner is what it's officially called. That's like Ford marketing a specialized van to Mexicans called the Border Runner- It'll never happen. 1stBRD- I call your bluff. Show us your source which officially states the ship-class name as "Blockade Runner" and I'll admit defeat. -

Where did you get yours? I've got 3 Clone Troopers, but I can't find the gunners, pilots or commanders, one website siad all of theirs were pre-orders for May. I'm starting to think thet the Corellian Corvette in Ep.III isn't the same one as in Ep.IV, in the book Organa just calls it Taintive. Which means that something could have happened to it by Ep.IV or that by that point Alderaan has baaught a 4th Vette Either or, I hope we see the Tantive doing what it's nicknamed for- Running a blockade. -

While I own both an Xbox and the new, slim PS2*, I enjoy console-only titles that both platforms bring, and couldn't be pressed to pick a favorite. Some people have mentioned above that Sony puts out a ton of crap games, but seem to think that Xbox does not. I beg to differ. For every good Xbox game out there, there's about 10-15 crappy ones. I think that's a fairly even ratio with the PS2. Of course, I would want backwards compatability on the new Xbox 836, but I'm not willing to pay the extra to have Halo 3 thrown in, as I am NOT a Halo fan. p.s.- Kin, I cannot believe you have that for your avatar!!! *If you thought the Xbox looked gigantic before, you should see it next to the Slim PS2!!!

Who's your favorite Star Trek Captain?
the white drew carey replied to UN Spacy's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Giving the show is completely Sci-Fa, I would have to go with Picard simply because he's a much more believable captain than Kirk. Do you think someone as impulsive and reckless as Kirk would actually get to a position where he'd be in charge of the equivalant of a multi-quadrillion dollar starship? Kirk's fun, don't get me wrong, but given the plausability of each and every show, I'd have to give Picard kudos for being the coolest. -
Sure, if you'd like to be!

Best Movie Badguy of all time?
the white drew carey replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
My vote would probably be for Roy Batty from Blade Runner- Played by Rutger Hauer. The cool thing about Roy is that he is only doing what most anyone would do, try their hardest to survive in the face of impending death. But the way the movie is set up, you're supposed to think of him as a bad guy, when it's really the humans who created the slave replicants in the first place who are the bad guys. As with Vader, a type of salvation in the end doesn't change the fact that he was originally portrayed as a bad guy. The Kurgan is pretty bad-ass, too. -
Variable Fighter Spartan Destroid
the white drew carey replied to wolframbane's topic in Movies and TV Series
My main concern with the Variable Destroid design (hence known as the VD [haha]) was that Destroids were inherently slow and cumbersome. The variable aspect would, in theory, gave them better tactical mobility. The originaly idea was to produce variable versions of all of the destroids, the main difference between the VD and the VF being that they had limited offensive and defensive modes when in fighter, or the prerequisite Macross GERWALK, modes. The aforementioned modes being simply a faster means of travel to and from hotspots on the battlefield. One thing I was always a little irked about was the plight of the poor destroid pilot, destined to be quickly and utterly destroyed simply because he is driving the equivalent of a Sherman in the miffle of an Abrams battle. The VD series was a hypothetical look at a possible series bridging the gap between semi-capable Destroid and fully-capable VF. The comparison of the A-10 was for more of a visual comparison, meaning I would have rather designed the variable Spartan to be less refined than the VF-1 design. And, yes, Godzilla did bring this up recently as well. -
Variable Fighter Spartan Destroid
the white drew carey replied to wolframbane's topic in Movies and TV Series
This is way better than my stuff. In hindsight (which is always 20/20), I would've made the variable Spartan more like the original, with the fighter and gerwalk modes looking more boxy and utilitarian. think of it this way- Which looks more sleek and sophisticated, the F-22 Raptor or the A-10 'Hawg? Now, which one looks like a tough hombre who can kick some mean ass, the F-22 Raptor or the A-10 'Hawg? If I were to do it again, I would go for more of an A-10 feel. p.s.- on a side note, when I did the Variable Spartan, some member (I can't recall whom) thought the idea of a Variable Destroid was silly. The, a couple of months afterwards, the same guy couldn't stop talking about how much of a genius Kawamori was for designing the VB-6 Konig Monster... -

Crawl before you walk? Did the first automobile move at 200mph? Did the first plane reach 100k feet, or break mach 1? You have little faith... -
There's no correlation of where certain parts go in certain modes. It's kind of disappointing overall. What's the source for those designs?

That's soooo funny! "Yeah, we'd like to mount some Browning machine guns on the shoulders..."
