1. I don't know. I gave VB a fighting chance, but in the end, it was simply too blurry and too much of a pain to keep your head up into the eyepiece. Eventually, I had to chalk VB up as one of Nintendo's lame gimmicks, like that robot whose sole purpose seemed to be putting a spinning top into something else.
2. Any pics of what the RX77-D version will look like? That's my favorite GunCannon version.
3. I was reading the last couple of pages from this thread and one thing people seem to be getting hyped about is the ability to DL N64, SNES and NES games. But no one seems to be mentioning the part where it says that "fan favorites" will be available to download. So- out of all the games that you can DL, are any going to be the more obscure ones which I enjoy, like Destiny of an Emperor, Romance of the Three Kingdoms (the first one) or other similar titles? Secondly, it makes no mention of free DL's and, I'm sorry, but I am not going to pay anything for a 20 year old NES game when I can get the ROM and EMU for free on the internet. Sad to say, there was a day when Nintendo was my system of choice. Now it's last on the list for me. I haven't enjoyed a Nintendo-only game since Zelda: Ocarina of Time. And any cross-system games look and play better on the X-box while PS2 has the most system-specific games that I enjoy. I wish Nintendo luck, but they'll have to do alot in order to regain my disposable income.
4. Yeah, it's Episode 5. 2.1 was Desmond's Cave of Love (angle 1) 2.2 was Desmond's Cave of Love (angle 2) 2.3 was Shootout at Desmond's Cave of Love 2.4 was Hurley-Burleys All-You-Can-Eat Feast of Peace, Love and Understanding.
5. Thanks guys! Forgive my ignorance on technology- I wasn't aware the subs are, for lack of a better phrase, processed seperately from the video. Thanks a bunch!!!
6. OK- So if you have your anime in widescreen format and you watch it on a widescreen TV, what happens to the subs which either go into, or are actaully shown in the bottom black part of the screen on a 4:3 TV? I'm looking into a widescreen TV, but since I watch a lot of subbed movies, anime and foreign films, I'm kind of worried about what might happen here and if the subs will be cut off.
7. Correction- It was the Ralph Bakshi version which was, quite terribly, rotoscoped. The Rankin Bass films (The Hobbit, Return of the King) were done primarily by Japanese studios... Hmmm, does that technically make them anime? 335142 I meant Bakshi... I was thinking Rankin Bass because for some reason Rudolf's shiny newyear is stuck in my head. 335150

9. Remember the days when parents would sue because they found an Ozzy album on the record player after their kid killed himself? Same thing. Many parents just want to absolve all responsibility if their kid does something wrong. I grew up in an environment where I could play whatever games I wanted, listen to whatever music I wanted and do basically anything my little mind came to as long as it wasn't a crime. You want to know why I was able to do this: My parents had the good sense to instill in me the concept of right and wrong. Sure, I did stupid things, but I was punished for my actions, and learned my lesson. Parents are ultimately responsible for any action their child does. If they cannot control their own children, then the child should be put into a foster home or taken under the care of the state and the parents should not be allowed to breed anymore. THAT IS THE DUTY OF A PARENT!!! If states or the government want to regulate the sale of video games, that's fine by me. As long as they cannot stop a game from being released, I don't care. I'll buy my children any game they want, and I'll sit there and play it with them and enforce the concept that the game is only fantasy. I'm not going to be worried until the government starts saying that "GTA7: Circusville" can't be released because they don't like seeing a senator screw a clown. Then it IS impinging on freedom of speech and I'll tear holy hell.
10. Where? 334853 Look at the guy running on the right. There is something that is visible over his right shoulder that is definitely there before the engine blows.
11. I don't know how true this is, but I guess the shark that "attacks" Sawyer in last week's episode has same logo found in Desmond's batcave on one of it's fins. I guess if you watch it in slo-mo you can see it. Nano-shark? On a serious note, I really don't care what they present for reasons in this show, as long as they film it like they are, I'll enjoy. It's simply fun to watch!
12. I haven't even gotten any e-mails from them aside from the first one saying I placed the order.
13. Or someone on the animation team decided to get creative?
14. One night when I was visiting my sister she asked me to pick out a book in my brother-in-law's library for her to read. I jokingly pulled out Ender's Game thinking she'd never read it (she can't stand sci-fi). One week later she's read every book in the series. I agree, it'sa good!!
15. How would one go about burning the game to a disk and having it play on a modded PS2? Does it have to be mounted as an image as well? (I'll admit, I have no fricking idea what that means... )
16. Speaking of which, does anyone know of a good place to buy this game from, or is eBay the best way?
17. My wife and I agree with your sentiments about Jordan. Hopefully, once the series is complete, it will flow a lot better is read from beginning to end. I also totally agree with your thoughts on Martin. One of the main points that ALL of my friends made when recommending A Song of Ice and Fire was that, at any given moment, a major character can be killed off. I think it makes the series one of the most believable that I've ever read because no one is ever safe. The Dark Tower series does rock, but I think The Stand isn't really that good. King's main selling point (to me) is that he can write in such a way that you WANT to keep reading, even if the story blows chunks (most recently this happened with Dreamcatcher). I think The Stand has the same effect on me. It's definitely big, it sure is epic, but I just cruised through it in two days while in Europe and, once I was done, said to myself: "That was it?" One thing I entirely enjoy about King is that, if not all, then most of his books have some connection. In a way, that ties a majority of his books into an epic-type series.
18. Other series I thoroughly enjoy, but are more fantasy than Sci-Fi are: Memory, Sorrow and Thorn by Tad Williams- The Dragonbone Chair, Stone of Farewell and To Green Angel Tower. The short story The Burning Man adds a bit to the series, but is not considered essential reading. This is my favorite series of books to read in one big go, and is possibly my favorite fantasy series of all time. A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin- A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords. Forthcoming are A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons with two more unnamed books planned in the series. Two Novellas- The Hedge Knight and The Sworn Sword are set in the same world, about 100 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire. While not required reading, they do add a bit of insight in the world of Westeros. I was recently turned on to this series and am now hooked. Somehow, this author crams a lot of story and character development into a a single book. Another perk is how Martin does not pull any punches when describing the visciousness and shear violence of battle, and character's actions. The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan- New Spring (this is the first novel in a planned prequel trilogy, and is a further elaboration of the short story of the same name. Robert Jordan has decided to forego the other two prequels until he gets around to actually finishing the main series), The Eye of the World. The Great Hunt, The Dragon Reborn, The Shadow Rising, The Fires of Heaven, Lord of Chaos, A Crown of Swords, The Path of Daggers, Winter's Heart, Crossroads of Twilight and the soon to be released Knife of Dreams. The twelth and supposedly last book in the series is yet to be named. As with most fans of the series, I have a love/hate relationship with WOT. On one hand, it is a fun series to read, and you can really get hooked on the characters. On the other hand, one wishes Jordan would just get it over with! And, lastly, my favorite, loosely connected, series of all: The Discworld Series by Terry Pratchett. To name all of the books would be folly, but I think they are some of the best books ever written (to the point where the stylized letter "O" with the small lightening bolt ending in a tiny spark in the middle is going to be my next tattoo). The series itself is broken up into stand alone novels as well as little sub-series which, oft-times, will also overlap, such as The Witches, Samuel Vimes and The City Watch, Rincewind the Wizzard, Death, Susan- Death's Granddaughter, The Wizards of Unseen University and most recently Tiffany Aching and the Wee Free Men. Other notable series are The PERN Novels by Anne McCaffery and The Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind.
19. Let's not forget that The Foundation series is actually part of a larger story arc that, in essence, begins with his Robot short stories and ends with Foundation and Earth. In chronological order within the story line: The Complete Robot (short story collection) The Robots Series (during the preliminary colonization of space) The Caves of Steel The Naked Sun The Robots of Dawn Robots and Empire The Empire Series (events during the height of the Galactic Empire) The Currents of Space The Stars, Like Dust Pebble in the Sky The Foundation Series (set in the decline of the Galactic Empire) Prelude to Foundation Forward the Foundation (The Foundation Trilogy) Foundation Foundation and Empire Second Foundation Foundation's Edge Foundation and Earth There are also several short stories which may or may not be considered part of the complete story arc, but this distinction lies wholly within the reader's preference. Other authors have also added to the series with their own works after Asimov's death. This is pretty much sacrilege in the same vein as Herbert's son writing some pretty terrible Dune novels. Some people suggest that one should actually read the series in the order they were published, keeping in mind that the Foundation and Robot series were originally not meant to be contained within the same world, and therefore present some tricky plot inconsistencies that one has to deal with
20. That, among other things. From reading the instruction manual, I'm guessing there are three different switches which need to be blocked- One in front, two in back.
21. Band names count. Let's not forget Shai Hulud.
22. Y'know, I was just listening to the Naked Raygun album, Jettison, and I was always amused by the references that two of their songs make. The first song I'm referring to, "The Mule", takes it's name from a pivotal character in the novel Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov and, while not really about the book itself, definitely inspires it's mood and lyrics from all-encompassing events and scenarios found in that novel. The song right after that, "Coldbringer" is directly based on Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. That led me to remember Method of Destruction (M.O.D. for short) also doing a song based on Batman: The Dark Knight Returns aptly titled: "The Dark Knight Returns". So, what I'm curious about is what other songs you may know of which are based on Science Fiction, comic book, or some other similar culture that one wouldn't normally find expressed in music?
23. I haven't done anything with the slim PS2 yet, but I've heard dandy things about this set: Slim PS2 kit, and others of the same type. Basically it's the safest thing you can get, as it's easily removeable and cannot damage any part of your system (unless, that is, you drop one of the plastic pieces into the laser bay, which the instruction manual for the kit shows you how to avoid).
24. Not only that, but you can see what appear to be a pair of Monsters on each side of the bridge.
