  1. The Hedge Knight- I've only read the original short story (about 80 pages or so). I guess the "Second Edition" is about twice as long and fleshes out the story a bit. It's supposed to be set about 100 years before the beginning of ASOIAF. The Art of A Song of Ice and Fire- Who knows? I've put it on my Amazon wishlist, so let's see if anyone from my family actually loves me. This website here, by the publisher of the art book, has a link that downloads a PDF version of four of the pages. Looks fairly good.
  2. My wife complains about the toys I buy (and I don't even buy that much), but every time she does I'll remind her of her Hello Kitty fetish and she shuts up right quick. Remember, Ali Sama, put her in her place right away or she'll control you for the rest of your... ...Yes, honey, I'm just finishing dinner. We'll be eating soon. Yes, I've already set the table. Yes, I'll do the dishes afterwards. ... ahem, where was I? Oh, yeah: Or she'll control you for the rest of your life.
  3. Well, if you've gotten this far and don't think the sex is gratuitous, consider yourself safe, because it doesn't really get much worse. There may be a few more "hard-riding" moments (heh, heh) but, overall, that's about as extreme as it gets, IMHO. I'm about halfway through FEAST and I'm liking it thus far. As of yet, I don't think there's been one sex scene, but maybe they're coming up. MINOR SPOILERS for those who haven't gotten to FEAST yet: (highlight to read) So far, it's been tough going trying to follow a small group of fairly minor characters (as we know them yet) and some new ones. The story telling is top-notch and I'm, sure many of the events featured in FEAST will be replayed from some of the more major character's veiwpoints in DANCE. So far this series has not let me down one bit! As of now, I'm curious where the storylines of Arya and Brienne are leading us. Finally, the situations surrounding Sansa are making her chapters a bit easier to stomach (ohhhh... how I hated reading Sansa). While the Ironmen story seems to be dragging out, I'm pretty sure I can see where they will become a major plot point in future novels, if they don't do so already in the next half.
  4. My wife keeps goin' on about his work with Wilder, but as a kid I loved The Toy. He was still a smartass, but a little more consumer-friendly. Watching it as a kid, I totally wanted my own Black Man, instead of all the cool toys they were showing!
  5. No to mention that, IMHO, the Patlabor movies portray some of the greatest examples of animated films that transcend your run-of-the-mill anime.
  6. A quick gander at their website shows updated news about 3-4 times a minth, with the most recent being November 29th. I think their still going, just not as active as they were before.
  7. Hooray!!! For a Patlabor fan like myself this is fairly good news! I love Honneamise as well and can't wait for that to be released!
  8. I just got Feast on thursday, so I've only begun. I'll finish up and present my thoughts afterwards. On page 140 and, thus far, no gratuitous sex or rapes!!!
  9. As long as it's well written. Is it well written? Somebody post some extracts so we can all judge whether it adds to the overall artistic merit of the story ... 348540[/snapback] As and you shall recieve: 1st chapter excerpt This is an excerpt of the 1st chapter (after the prologue) of the 1st book A Game of Thrones. One key feature to note is that, already, he is name-dropping a bunch of important people and a bunch of important aspects of society, but doesn't quite explain them... yet. That's one thing I like about him is how he shoves you into and then slowly let's you rely on him to teach you how to swim, instead of coddling you at the beginning.
  10. Well, as I have yet to read Feast, I cannot comment. But, thus far, I have no problems with the sex he writes about. People make dirty whoopee all of the time. Why he should he be brazen about his descriptions of violence and yet shun decriptions of the naughty-naughty? Shaggydog- my wife just finished the new Jordan book and says that it's very good, and that he seems to have gotten the story back on track. Just an FYI.
  11. LTSO- Are you referring to Feast? I'll admit, Martin's got this thing about gratuitous sex, just like his gratuitous violence, I guess. I remember when I first started reading this series I kept joking around with my wife about the unusually frequent mentions of "engorged breasts" and incestuous unions. BTW- I just learned of this book: A Song of Ice and Firre artbook. One reviewer says the art is quite good and the book is bound well. Hell, I'm up for anything after the crap-fest of artwork in The World of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time!!! I'm still waiting for my copy of Feast to arrive. In the meantime, in leiu of staring any new novels, I'm reading through my Calvin and Hobbes collection. So things could be worse.
  12. I agree with JBO on HG's quintupple-dipping practices but, all things aside, unless tha dub is excellent (and I think ADV is never consistent in this manner), I'd prefer a good sub anyday. My AnimeIgo disks are in great shape and that's good enough for me.
  13. Wow. I normally don't post in these threads, but this one matters a lot! R.I.P. Pat Morita.
  14. I'm not sure when Dance is due, but considering Feast just came out this month, it may be a while. It's a heartening thought, though, to consider that Martin was over halfway through his manuscript for Dance when he decided to write Feast to bridge the gap, so he's got a lot of it done. I wouldn't be surprised if we see it within a year and a half.
  15. So, I have A Feast for Crows on order from SFBC and was just curious if anyone else has gotten into this series and what their thoughts on it are. For those who don't know, A Song of Ice and Fire is an exciting fantasy series by George R.R. Martin which has some crazy politics, some crazy sex and some incredibly brutal violence. The four books thus far in the series are: A Game of Thrones A Clash of Kings A Storm of Swords and the newly released A Feast for Crows There are several things I enjoy about this series: 1) The books seem to tell so much story for their size. Martin is a descriptive writer who also seems to pack a lot of substance into each chapter. 2) Magic is present in these books, but is rarely seen for most of the books, and it's rarely explained which makes it very mysterious. 3) The violence. The brutality displayed in these books is no punches pulled, throw little kids off of towers, kind of violence. It's gruesome and oh so good! 4) Most importantly, no character is safe. Main characters with established plotlines can, and are, killed off at the most unsuspecting moments. Which, in turn, throws the whole story off. Anyhow, I suppose there are going to be seven books in the series (there were going to be six, but A Feast for Crows was written when Martin realized he couldn't pull off a five year gap between A Storm of Swords and the book he originally planned next, A Dance with Dragons). So we have three more to anticipate. Any thoughts, kids?
  16. I think it would've been dragging it out if the tailies got a bunch of episodes instead of just one. I guess Shannon is dead because they said it in the preview for next week.
  17. Well, it's nice to know the Tailies story now, although I think they did a very bad job of trying to direct our suspicions on Nathan (name similar to Ethan) because the first time I saw Peace Corps guy, I called him out as the mole. I figure an ex-Peace Corps person would fit in perfectly with the Dharma Initiatives schemes. At least we know that Shannon is dead and gone, let's see if Sayid will curb his anger. I'm hoping that they don't try to recreate Jack/Sawyer tension with Anna Lucia/Sayid.
  18. Two words: Awesome!!!
  19. You know, in a couple years when you get bored of working out, all that muscle is going to turn into fat. See you on the biggest loser, A1!!! p.s.- I'm not a liberal, I'm a realist. And Ah-nuld hasn't done a good movie since True Lies.
  20. OK, so when someone else starts a thread, which is all about silly fun, don't be the one Mod who is so quick to lock it, like you have been in the past.
  21. I think they wanted to keep some of the same. The maps are physically larger than previous, and have more physical detail than previous (hillier terrain, etc.). The Hoth map is the same basic layout. Mos Eisley is the same layout as well but has many more nooks and crannies to sneak around in. Kamino, at least in the story mode, has alot of added stuff.
  22. And this is Other Sci-Fi and Anime-related how? (And don't try to pull it off saying Elijah Wood's been in sci-fi/fantasy movies, so it counts. This has NOTHING to do with the forum topic)
  23. I'm still a little unsure. I've been playing it since yesterday and, while it's still cool, ithere are some things I dislike about it. 1) Waaaaay too colorful. The backgrounds are now so bright and vibrant that it's kind of hard to tell what's going on at points. 2) The play is too fast. Now you can fire a blaster almost like a machine gun, plus the characters are too quick on their feet. This is a feature from Halo and Halo 2 which I particularly dislike, and it kind of sucks here. I liked how the movement on the original Battlefront was a tad more realistic in this sense. 3) The space battles are a tad weaker then I expected. When they said you could board an enemy ship and destroy components from within, I was expecting exploration of the ship, not a hanger, a control room leading off of that and then a couple other rooms with other vital components leading from the control room. I haven't played the multiplayer yet, nor anything other than the story missions, so I can't give a full grade yet, but so far I'm giving this game an 8.5 compared to the original's 10. The new features are neat, but a lot was lost in the sequel.
