These are the tiniest figures I've ever painted. 🤕 The sculpted detail is fabulous, but I should probably ignore the faces entirely from now on. 😐

They're not complicated kits. Note the Hasegawa on the right was just snapped together straight outta the box, with no paint or glue; the standard Regult needs little more than decals and panel-lining to look as good as an HMR (with the potential to look so much better, if you know what you're doing). ☺️

Didn't even know there was one... but a Google search revealed that both Flash movie vehicles were McFarlane Toys Store exclusives, and thankfully the Batwing was still available. The belated heads-up was nonetheless appreciated. 😊 Unfortunately, they only ship within North America, so I have to rely on my proxy. 😐

I'd like to thank Hasegawa for unexpectedly providing what Bandai has only teased for years now... ...and at a more accurate scale than Bandai's undersized Regults, too. ☺️ Sure, it requires decals and panel-lining (and a little paint, even), but it's a mere fraction of the cost of an HMR.

[Paramount] Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

I would not begrudge The Boys just because Rogan is an executive producer, nor The Fabelmans just because he appears in the film... but feel free to discriminate as you will. 😅 -

It was equally unfair of me to judge Transformers Go Away! based on the standards set by Thrilling 30 or War For Cybertron (much less Masterpiece), without considering the target audience. I've basically ignored BotShots, Rescue Bots, and even Cyberverse entirely, and should simply have dismissed Transformers Go to Hell! in the same manner. Honestly, I'd completely forgotten the line had even existed, until Mike shone his spotlight on it. 😅- 18245 replies

tekering replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh, absolutely; different budgets, different target audience. The only fair comparison is contemporary Prime figures, and even then, "Beast Hunters" had an international market supported by a series broadcast around the world, whereas Transformers Go! was limited to Japanese retail. With a much smaller market, I imagine their design budget was even more limited as a result; but then again, the same can be said of Kiss Players, a far superior toy line from several years earlier (with nothing more than a tenuous G1 connection to support it, much less an anime series). I just can't find any excuse for Transformers Go!... least of which its release date, barely a decade ago. 🙄- 18245 replies

Does your conception of "older toys" include figures like Thrilling 30 Springer, perhaps? Or MP-13 Soundwave? As someone who was actively collecting Transformers in 2013, I was appalled by Transformers Go!, especially the toy line. Mike's detailed retrospective has only reinforced my disdain. I don't think "current standards" have changed much over the past decade.- 18245 replies

I've finally got all my UCMG kits assembled in one display: While I eventually intend to expand my Master Grade collection past UC0093, I haven't the faintest idea where I'd put 'em. 😅

Three distinct heads (and a variety of accessories) means I can display three unique characters. Awesome! Except, of course, Target will only let you order two. 😑

Given ThreeZero's Labors are 1:35 scale (and cost a pretty penny), that Type 99 Carrier is going to be huge and expen$ive! 😮 Thankfully, Moderoid just released their 1:60 Carrier, so I don't feel compelled to break the bank on a larger toy version.... 😇 ...or at least, not AS compelled as I otherwise would be. 😉

Their licensing contract prevented them from fulfilling orders that had been solicited and taken during the licence period? 🤨 And so they've just cancelled the remainder of the production run, rather than extending the licence...? 😲 I can't even begin to wrap my head around the complex web of mismanagement and misfortune that led to such an outcome. The Robotech curse is real. 😳

Nor did they impress Michael Bay, who specifically references the incongruity of those Cybertronian robot modes in Transformers DVD supplementals ("Prime walking around Cybertron with truck bits" is more-or-less a direct quote). As a result, he quickly decided to ignore Sunbow entirely and do his own thing. Thankfully, Travis Knight showed a little more respect for G1 in the Bumblebee prologue, but he was still saddled with Bay's design legacy. 😒- 9532 replies

Upgrading a classic: yet another custom Bandai/Matchbox 1/3000 SDF-1
tekering replied to tekering's topic in The Workshop!
Happy New Year, guys! 🎊 As you can see, I've been busy curating my collection beyond the anime room... 😅 I've been offered a whole table at this year's Mikansei Hobby Show as well, and I'm hoping to complete all my Invid garage kits in time for the event. The SDF-1 project will be set aside for the time being. Thanks for your continued interest. ☺️ -
It's unequivocally more accurate than any other toy (or model kit) yet produced, but your concerns are clearly justified. There's certainly room for improvement. That's also a significant issue, as it affects the forward position of the command tower. All that said, it's entirely academic at this point. There are multiple SDF-1 prototypes that have been publicly displayed over the past decade, but have yet to make it to the production stage... 🙁

Thanks for the heads-up! I don't think I'd ever heard of Earthspark before you mentioned it, but I checked out the first couple episodes today, and it's... weird. 🙁 It's ostensibly a sequel to the Sunbow series, with specific flashbacks recreating shots from 1984 (first season) and 1986 (the Movie), although retconned to include Alita-One... 🤔 Marvel-style comic book art is also directly referenced. The character (and vehicle) designs are kind of a cross between Prime and Cyberverse, however... ...and I can't figure out what the hell they've done to Megatron's personality. 🤨 The writing and voice talent seems to favour the human cast, I'm sorry to say.- 18245 replies
