Are you going to pick up MP Soundwave? I recommend him, and if you can, get the Hasbro or Hasbro Asia version, you'll get all the tape bots in one package. That said, I almost guarantee there will be a + version announced at some point in the near future, I don't know if a more cartoon accurate color scheme is of interest to you, but yeah, that's definitely going to happen at some point.- 17316 replies

I think it looks better then the red and purple, it's grown on me a ton, it looks fantastic, very clean. Also, I'm a fan of the sleeveless look, always have been. I may honestly cancel my red and purple Mags, I really don't want/need two, and I now like the look of this one a lot more.

I always loved the white too, and this things looks pretty damn good, it's a purchase for me. I've been reading House of X recently, which is frakking amazing, and this is sort of House of X Magneto-ish, so I dig that too. Honestly, I just wanted to mention House of X, it's great, and I haven't enjoyed an X-Men comic like this in a looong while.

I mean you're definitely right, it was a brick basically, I just expected more from a modern SoC. Again, I feel Voltron spoiled me, five bots that combine, less original transformation due to repetition yes, but when combined he can get pretty dynamic. Bandai really went all out on Voltron, I feel they did the minimum for Dino Megazord/Daizyujin, knees, elbows, some rotation here and there. Also, accessories were sparse for my taste, some sword effects would be cool, a nice little display too. I'd still recommend it, it's a cool toy, I feel it just wasn't as bang for your buck as previous releases, I've seen it on sale and would recommend it at sale price, not retail.

Maybe slightly exaggerated, slightly, but I wouldn't say massively, the articulation was massively disappointing IMO. Being roughly the same design as the 93 zord/mystical beast, the T-Rex tail still hampers what would've been superior leg articulation. The arms have a bit more movement, not much, no double jointed elbows. The waste swivel only really works if you disengage the pterodactyl, which then breaks up the look. The knees kind of bend, but then that bend is nearly useless because the legs can't move forward due to the pterodactyl. The individual dinos are great, and that's how I have them. I passed, easily, on the Dragonzord and Titanus due to them looking like overpriced Legacy MMPR zords. I have my Legacy Dino Zord combined and the SoC separated into their dino forms. Your mileage may vary, I nearly sold mine several times off due to the disappointments with it, and I'm a massive, massive MMPR fan, and a nineties child that wanted nothing more then this to be the best SoC ever, and it wasn't, not even close.

Not to derail further but Zeta has already put out several Masterpiece scaled combiners that were pretty damn fantastic, and larger, and at least as complex as their Core Star/Unicron. There's also the confirmation that they were or were affiliated with Toyworld, which put out an incredible MP scale Devastator. Not perfect, but pretty amazing through and through, with amazing combined modes that were incredibly stable, wonderfully articulated, and built like bricks with little issue when combined. Why hope for that? I just want Hasbro's to release or get cancelled so they can get over their huff about a fantastic looking 3P Unicron, I just want my superior looking Zeta figure, I have zero intention of bothering with Hasbro's effort. This. Aesthetically, Zeta's looked superior to Hasbro's effort, not as big, and maybe not as nice a planet mode, but incredible nonetheless, and certainly better looking in my eyes. -
I like mine okay, but it was still quite disappointing. It's too expensive for what you get. The articulation is quite limited, and there's a number of odd, and straight up dumb design choices. You'd think being in the SoC line you'd get better articulation then the old 93 figure, but nope, about the same, but much heavier, premium paint, and far more expensive. I think this made SoC Megazord even more disappointing, it followed the incredible Voltron release, expectations were high, and I feel they were not met for the asking price.

The Unlicensed Third Party Transformers Thread

Such a damn shame we probably won't be seeing Zeta Core Star for a while now, that thing looked incredible. I was never going to bother with the Hasbro one, I don't have the money or space, and I don't want or need a Unicron that big. Zeta's was also FAR more aesthetically pleasing, the size was just right, and the transformation actually looked pretty fun. I am in no way shape or form a Unicron aficionado, I don't need a Unicron that is perfectly accurate in any mode, bot or planet, to any particular source, as long as it was a large Unicron looking figure that turned into a planet, I was in. Neither Unicron was ever going to scale well with anything, I just wanted it in the same way most of us Macross fans want a nice SDF-1 figure, it was just an iconic character that I wanted a nice looking, transformable figure of, scale be damned.- 9325 replies

Thanks guys. I guess I'll wait on my purchases for now, that color is quite a ways off what Hi-Metal R did for their DYRL colors. My memory is pretty bad, I had that Roy release and all three 1As and I couldn't remember the color at all, and I never took photos for some reason.
-
It's certainly not that different, but it is a new mold. The MKV is the one Bandai probably won't bother with, it wasn't in a film and it does look basically identical to the MKIV. Also, that's a big ol diaper on MKVI :).

I was/am hoping so too, so maybe I'll wait for this upcoming event and whatever announcements it may hold before I bite. Thank you for this though, I was trying to see specifically how the old Hi-Metal DYRL colors compared to the Hi-Metal R DYRL colors. If I remember right that original Hi-Metal Roy was TV not DYRL right? I don't remember the in-hand color for the older DYRL Hi-Metal 1As.
-
He's got a great site that I reference often, and he has some great comparisons, but not exactly what I was looking for. Thanks. Sounds close, I may grab just an old DYRL Kaki 1A for now to see how I like him with Hi-Metal R DYRL Hikaru 1A.

Endgame War Machine MKVI. Pass for me, I like the Infinity War MKIV version more. I just want that sweet, sweet Iron Patriot from the second half of the film.

So quick question for anyone who might know, was the finish/color on the older Hi-Metal VF-1A Hikaru the same as the newer Hi-Metal R VF-1A Hikaru? I have the Hi-Metal R with armor parts, and I used to have the whole VF-1A DYRL Hi-Metal box set, but sold those long ago so I can't compare. Outside of new announcements, I might want to grab an older Hi-Metal 1A Kaki and Max to go with my Hi-Metal R 1A Hikaru.

Don't know if anyone here can help, there's quite a few handy folks in here when it comes to customizing and painting. Long story short, I lent my MP-36 to a friend who does some customizing and painting, I wanted that goofy ass toon accurate incorrect Decepticon logo off the clean chest piece so I could just put a proper Con Repro sticker on, and yeah, he brought the chest piece back with the whole middle section faded and wiped off, he clearly just went overboard with some alcohol and ruined it. He promised he could get the logo off clean to the point I would be able to put a Repro right where I want it, but nope, he just messed it up. My fault for trusting him, I told him he screwed it up and this piece was expensive, overpriced even, but he's not going to shell out for a new one and honestly, it's partly my fault for trusting him having never actually seen anything he has done or worked on. I REALLY don't want to have to buy a KO just for a new chest piece, I'm kicking myself for wasting money on MP-36 and not just getting an IT or Dynastron KO, but here we are, I had to have it at release. I don't know if anyone has paint matched MP-36 and it would be easier to just completely paint strip and then repaint the chest or what. This was an original run, or version 1 MP-36, never even transformed out of fear of inevitable damage. Any thoughts? Should I just try to sell it without the chest piece at a cheaper price to fund a KO?- 17316 replies

There's a how-to on TFW2005 somewhere, I was looking through the various MP-44 threads for it, it involves slight disassembly of the leg, and some super glue being put in certain spots, I can't remember exactly. If you have the time and patience it's definitely been posted and re-posted in the main MP-44 thread on TFW2005, you just gotta sift through the BS and crap slinging to find it.- 17316 replies

Dark Crystal age of resistance on Netflix

Just finished the whole series and wow, it was incredible. I've loved the original film since I was a kid, I wore out two different VHS tapes of the original movie, I feel this series delivered in every way I had hoped and expected. Loved the gelflings, they looked fantastic, modern puppetry is quite incredible. I probably wouldn't have bothered with the series if they did CG gelflings, it just wouldn't be the same, the world was built on these tangible objects, jankiness and all. As mentioned above the cast was fantastic, the only character I really worried about was Chamberlain, but Simon Pegg nailed the voice, and the puppeteer was absolutely on point with the little movements and mannerisms, just fantastic work. Amazing work all around of course, this series, like the original film, is a work of art, such a brilliant testament to so many different artists and fabricators. Also, I highly recommend watching the making of the series after the final episode, a well done but brief look at the insane amount of work and talent that went into this series. My younger nieces, nephews and cousins have been enjoying it, never having seen the original film, and all very young. As I mentioned, no puppets for the gelflings would be nearly pointless to me, but it seems the look is still accessible enough to at least some younger viewers. As the for the tone? Game of Geflings indeed, I loved it, deep, like returning fans wanted, with enough betrayal and drama for younger crowds. I think most just need to remember puppets don't necessarily mean kiddy and light hearted, it's just the medium.- 88 replies

Nobody is really asking for "dumping" prices, it just comes down to, on a person to person basis, what you are willing to pay. Some are fine with $300+, some are fine with $400+, I personally feel $250 would've been a sweet spot for me to buy in, but that $300+ is absurd. Nobody is asking for this thing to be the same price as MP-10, a lot of folks just feel it's too much for what is on offer, engineering and design included. To me, $300+ is what I am willing to pay for, say, the upcoming Chogokin Vehicle Voltron, not this. I've got third party figures with just as impressive articulation and engineering and they were a fraction of the cost, I feel there's a hefty Takara Tax on this thing since it's Optimus. ALL OF THEM! Seriously though, Id' wager the first one on tap will be MP-44+, a chromed out G1 toy inspired repaint, I've already seen some pretty damn good digi-bashes of it. From what I read Takara/Hasbro is currently going after Black Mamba and a few other big name KO makers, and apparently have their sites set on various third party companies after that, so who knows on a KO for this. Also, I guess MP-44 already comes with a Cullen english voice chip built in, so that's cool.- 17316 replies

His work still looked fantastic, the big G's lair was pretty badass. With HDR and everything going, the movie is a bit dark at times, I made a small adjustment to my TV settings for just this film, I bumped the backlight up just a tad, nothing degraded or washed out, and it made a lot of the darker scenes background detail pop a bit more.

Some crazy origami engineering Takara managed with MP-44. While I won't be getting one, there's zero denying Takara's engineering is, as always, totally on point. After multiple MP Primes, official and third party, MP-44 still managed some tricks and neat bits of engineering all it's own. Also, the front hip skirts are spring loaded, there's some quite amazing engineering in there no doubt, Takara certainly went all out on this thing.- 17316 replies

So MP-44 is in the wild, looks good, not $300+ good, so still a pass for me. Man, once again, TFW2005 has the single WORST community of any toy site on the web, wow, that official MP-44 thread is a literal wretched hive of scum and villainy, once again, wow. Slight criticism of MP-44? Troll. Comment on price being too high? Poor troll, also, not a real fan. There's five or six posters constantly bringing up third party to bash those Primes, then there's two or three asses that constantly cry about third party being brought up, once again, almost exclusively being brought up by the same few posters, not to compare, just to bash and complain. Complaints of people "talking crap" in the third party threads about MP-44 (oh the horror, my toy feelings are hurt), I go to those threads, it's like, a dozen people simply stating they still prefer their third party figure to MP-44, nothing more. That MP-44 thread is, by a long country mile, the single most pathetic, childish, and horrifying example of a toy community I have ever seen. It's absolutely disgusting, and I can't help but wonder if the site has mods, if they're worthless, or if it is all just okay. Every. Single. Person. I have had ask me about my Transformers, I always tell them to just use TFW2005 for resources and news, NOTHING MORE, DO NOT POST, it is a complete crap-show, worst toy community on the net. The us-vs-them mentality is soooo strong, it's insane, it reminds me of the psychotic kids that spend all day on IGN arguing over the "console wars", I had thought, foolishly, that level of brand loyalty was reserved for sociopathic children, guess I was dead ass wrong. I guess no other toy community really has a divide among it due to third party figures and collecting, but still, the vicious, idiotic, downright dangerous hate being flung because someone said something mean about a certain truck to robot toy, or buying the "wrong" robot truck toy, is absurd, and once again, wow, insanely, maddeningly pathetic. Rant over, sorry guys.- 17316 replies

Yeah if I remember right Rhodey was Iron Patriot MKII in the big ending Endgame fight, semantics I know, but it was the blue color scheme not the usual black and silver, definitely a totally new sculpt, far bulkier then any previous armor.

I'm a massive DC fan and this looks interesting to me, Joaquin Phoenix is an amazing actor and I'm sure he'll have a pretty great spin on the character. At this point the DC connected universe is full of holes and patches, stand alone and elseworld movies like this just make sense, they will NEVER have an MCU. I'll probably see this opening night.

Got my 4K copy, such a fun film, I enjoyed the hell out of it. Can't wait for MonsterArts Rodan and Mothra to drop, Ghidorah and Godzilla are pretty great.
