  1. Hope the concerts a blast. Looking forward to seeing the new poster and very curious how "significant" a departure from the series it is.
  2. Black Bunny's been out for ages actually. "Personally I like the oldest Ichi Prize B of Sheryl best; they managed to capture Sheryl's spirit (to me). Same angelic face issue on Megahouse's army suit release, even she wears little enough. Great production, no wonder, from MH. The bullet Sheryl is too erotic (is there such a thing as "too erotic"?), and the noseart is not Sheryl-accurate to start with (to me). " The first one's face just didn't quite cut it for me. Just looked wrong in the pics(though looking at some new ones doesn't make it look half bad from some angles). I have both Megahouse releases. I don't think "angelic" is how I'd describe the stage face. It's got a playfulness that I like. Though I didn't like it much until I saw it in person (thanks Mar). The NA version (despite how non-nose art it really is IMO) has a very eerie face from some angles. I do agree that it's a touch too erotic (especially when they try to pass it for WWII Nose Art, which isn't as blatent to have a bullet AND words suggesting penetration),and YES there is such a thing, but it is an exceptional sculpt. It mirrors the art extraordinarily well. Though I also agree that the original art was rather off face wise as well. That's a rather classic thing for Sheryl, even my sister has described art of her as "mannish". I like the Black Bunny a lot face wise. Though I loved the gray prototype with the glowing eyes. The Xmas Sheryls don't look half bad (I suppose lower expectations on cheap figs apply). Most rankas have been great, so I assume it's Sherilu's odd face that proves hard to translate. Klans have been incredible. Liking the new movie one, even if her mouth is huge. Sheryl has a huge playful side to her, and a lot of it is lost in all the smutty art that comes out (not that I don't love quality smut). Though I agree, enough Sheryls, I want Grace and Cathy. Stop with the girls and bring us the women. By the way, I know much has been said of the different Sheryls, but what is the preferred Ranka? Nyan-Nyan (which I almost got at Fanime before Miss China nabbed her funds), NA, Cinderella? One I somehow missed? I need to balance the odd fact that I have two expensive Sheryls (though one was a gift), and only gashapon Rankas.
  3. I thought it was a great series as well. good to see I'm not alone in loving Squid Girl. It's quite hilarious at times, and the last segment of episode five just moves you to tears. Also been liking The World God Only Knows, Arakawa 2, and Oremo. Been a busy season. Even tried Iron Man for a bit.
  4. Never knew about this. I wonder if they'd replace the broken rail on my MkII's shield. I also lost a thruster, but I'd expect nothing there. As for kits, paint has still delayed the completion of the Qubeley. I'm thinking of getting some new MG kits for Xmas, but with that incomplete, it seems too soon. Thinking about some Zeta or Unicorn kits (especially Sinanju, though a local shop has it for $100), or maybe a Nu or F91.
  5. Not everyone checks the Revoltech thread. Post what you want, since it's relevant. I was about to post it myself. Agreed that it's about time. Especially since they have a Dix Enuf. It's awesome that they worked the Buster Machine versions in there. http://www.collectiondx.com/news_item/121510/more_images_revoltech_no101_gunbuster
  6. Not as inconvenient as Modesto or Sacramento though, it would appear. My laptop has HDMI and s-video out as well as VGA.
  7. Sort of the same problem I've got then, just without the animals. Surely someone in the bay has a big screen? Though the guest list so far is split between BA and CV.
  8. As much as I adore Selvaria, I've not been liking the light smile they gave her (at least that's how the promo pics looked). It just doesn't fit game wise (she did use it in the anime, but not on the battlefield). So it kind of ruins the figure for me. Not Alter's best work. It just looks...off. I did like the previous Selvaria that came out, but she's by a no name company and REALLY expensive. bluemax151, I have two Shiki's, both gashipons, neither that great. You can pose him without glasses though.
  9. I generally agree with this. I can't stand the iPod (or most othe Apple poducts but thats anothe thead). It took me awhile to move from a CD based Mp3 player to a disk based one. The Sansa Fuze is much better for quality minded people since it supports FLAC. That said, I hate CDs. They scratch too easily, aren't as potable as tapes, and the instant access capability basically started the whole "songs over albums bit". Though I know it was also being forced into buying them. Not to mention the whole "loudness war". There's really no such thing as a well mastered CD anymore. My top peeve this year. Worse is how it's lamely digitizing our theatres with crappy 2k systems and driving ticket prices up. I wanted to see Ton with a friend, IMAX 3D tix wee 18 bucks. 18 BUCKS! I can see it for 5 at a normal theatre. Dozens of new concepts have been developed to save cinema like higher framerates, yet they pick the stupidest one. As much as I want one, I definitely have a friend that drives me nuts with his. We'd be at an event, and he'd be checking contacts on flickr. How about interact with the people actually there? This. Most alternatives are cheaper without the "you an idiot if you don't realize how much better our stuff is" bit. I actually played with a Mac the other day, and while it has improved, I just can't get that bad taste out of my mouth. I'm also not fond of digital photography. Though that one's hard to explain to people since digital's so much more "convenient". I like the restraint film gives me, and the overall look. It's also sort of nice to see how the pics came out at a latter date (the screen lies all the time anyway). It's just cheapens things for me how you can just take and take and take until you get what you want. No skill required. Then there's the whole "fix it in post" mindset. Digital has it's uses sure, and I've found that I've taken more shots with my phone than my cameras, but I just prefer film when I actually get a chance to shoot it. Did I mention my friend's a Flickr whore? Twitter. Won't touch it with a ten foot pole. Facebook is pretty much my limit.
  10. I've heard about half of it by now (taking my time), but so far I'm liking it. The new Ranka songs are nice.
  11. Actually, Focker, that Saber's pretty well sought after. I stupidly passed her up at a swap meet. Though she was a boot for all I know. Considering all my other Sabers are too (a guy actually gave me a bunch at the same meet), wouldn't be surprising. I've not caught the K-On! bug, and hope I never will. I just don't see the appeal. Thank goodness given how Kyo-ani loves to milk their fans for all they've got. I'm still recovering from Endless Eight. noticed my old link doesn't work, so lets try this one. http://myfigurecollection.net/profile/TifaOnACloud
  12. Mine too. It basically cemented the idea that not all sequels have to suck and turned a surprise hit into a powerhouse franchise.
  13. I started with Plus, and that's probably eternally at second place with me. I especially love the film version. I still love the story of three estranged friends, and the final battle still gets rewatched often. Yet when I finally started on the Robotech sets, I just got into it. Saw DYRL and loved it. Once I'd seen SDF in its entirely, it was firmly in as my second favorite anime of all time (second only to Gunbuster). The original TV series and fan oriented movie are damn near perfect in my book. Fantastic characters, interesting plot, great designs and music. None of the followups come close, even Frontier (which suffers from story and character issues). I can't count in 7, having only seen some, but I doubt that'll change. I like II, Zero and F, but I love the original. There' truth to saying that. I know when I started in anime, I was ten years younger and pretty much adored the first show I saw. Even today I think of them highly, yet realize I may not be as enamoured had I seen them now after hundreds of titles. Still, there are exceptions, namely in me being pretty well loving of plus having seen it first, even bemoaning getting a DYRL wallscroll instead of the Plus one as being an odd choice. Yet that changed when I saw the original years later. Me too. DRYL just seems like icing on the cake. I can't seperate them. I also tend not to compare the titles, hence how I'd roll my eyes whenever someone insisted on calling Sheryl Misa, and Ranka Minmay. Dated animation doesn't tend to sway me in judging quality either. I guess I'm one of those rare types that can actually appreciate something as a product of its time. Though SDF does have some horrendous animation at times, while DRYL have some of the best cel animation Japan's ever done. It seems foolish to compare that to some like Zero and Frontier where most of the hard stuff isn't even drawn by hand. I'm not sure how I am. I suppose I am more inclined to like it because of the connection. Nor do I think my problems with Frontier had anything to do with it having to "live up" to the original. Though I know this forum played a large part in shaping my attitude towards it, and aside from the OSTs, cosplay, and expensive-ass Sheryl figurines staring back at me that I marvel having, I know it plays a large part in keeping my interest in it. The fandom has definitely formed what I call my love/hate relationship with that show and it's characters . I like them, but they just don't entirely endear themselves to me, much like Zero's. 1. SDF/DYRL/FB2012 2. Plus (especially the Movie cut) 3 It's been awhile since I've seen II, but I'll put it here for old times sake. 4 (3?). Frontier/Zero They really are about equal to me. Good shows when I saw them that slowly fade from memory and would probably have done so entirely if not for the Macross connection. F probably has the edge give longer running time, slightly more memorable, if at times frustrating, characters and especially the music [though 0 has fantastic music as well and is generally forgotten for lack of songs]. There are times I think the music of F appeals to me more than the show (I know I see May'n more as the true Sheryl than Aya Endo, which is unusual for me). ? 7 Mar, noticed you placed The False Diva above TV. Curious how you came to that?
  14. A comedy legend has left us. I'll always remember him for such great performances in Forbidden Planet, Airplane, Dracula: Dead and Loving it, Swamp Fox, and Spy Hard. He was the true king of parody film. May he rest in peace.
  15. Hot on the heels of Leslie Nielsen's passing, we've lost a great director. I shudder to think how the rule of three will come into play. http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20101129/ennew_afp/entertainmentfranceusfilmdirector_20101129123403 To think I watched some of the bad version of ESB last night too on TV. Eerie yet appropriate. To think we'd lose him during the 30th as well. Rest in peace to the best director a boy, a girl and a galaxy ever had. Even Lucas couldn't ruin that film (at least too much).
  16. There's been a few Gunbuster ones on eBay that I would've loved to have, including one from 6. Nothing great, but it's Gunbuster.
  17. ADV as they supposedly tried AND it was intended to an English speaking audience yet still failed. Reading through those old threads reminded me of a lot of odd dialog choices (Like Claudia referring to Minmay as "That little bitch").
  18. Just found out this existed myself. Seems like a nice balance between the girls too. Seems very laid-back listening on the previews. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2wPcLTUk_w
  19. My sister was up at 6am trying to get tickets for three hours and they shut it don't after she was finally making progress. Quite the clusterf%^k. You'd think they'd figured out online server needs by now.
  20. Wrong credit. Clash is based off a Hong Kong dub of DYRL done for English instruction classes in Japan, a popular thing to do. So thank the British. She's still the only main Minmay I haven't met yet. Here are the two threads. http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=32993 http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=32396 There should also be a running commentary during the release of the discs, if memory serves.
  21. I believe there's two whole threads at least of MWers watching the dub on Hulu and giving their critiques. You may wish to search for them, as they're fairly recent. Myself thinking that while I've heard much worse, it's definitely not great, with some of the casting better in Robotech. Monica Rial in particular I thought outright murdered Misa. Doesn't help that they missed with the sound effects either. As for your writeup, March, I agree with a lot of it. What I find however to be the kicker among fans of both dubs and subs is a general disagreement over what makes a "good dub". I'm in the camp of fidelity to the source material, in terms of line accuracy, casting and so on. So something like "Ghost Stories (apparently universally well received despite being more Mecek-ien than Mecek ever was)" would never be considered "good" by me no matter how it makes "such an awful show funny". They only exception I've had on that one is Shinesman. A lot of dub fans seem to care more about the general casting than anything else, and as long as they "sound right" they're happy. There's even fandoms around actors. Ever see people go nuts around Vic Mignona no matter how miscast he may or may not be? I like some dub actors myself, like Steve Blum, but there are times when he just sticks out too much. Then there's the defence that dubs are unanimously considered better now than back in the 80s or 90s. Oddly, I've found myself often liking the older dubs sound wise over the newer. The only thing "improved" is that they tend to be more accurate now, unless it's from Funimation (which it usually is) or the likes of ADV's Stephen Foster. Dubs could be a lot worse than they are, just watch old live action dubs. Some DO try, but I agree that standards tend to be low, and depending on who's doing it, there are going to be different priorities (Richard Epcar, whom I've always like as Batou in GitS, firmly believes dubbers have a right to try and "improve" the product when it comes to translation and casting for example and most dub reviewers seem to accept this depending on the show "it's a bad show anyway, let them try to salvage it ").
  22. New Gunbuster manga! Hopefully, it's more than just a cash-in. http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2010-10-30/gainax-aim-for-the-top-gunbuster-anime-gets-manga
  23. I have no problem arranging it. It's just a matter of when and where.
  24. He wrote a lot of my favorite old shows, and I got a kick out of him opposite Nathan Fillion in an extra on the "Castle" DVD my sister has. He will be missed.
