  1. I'm actually glad to hear that it's more of a soundtrack. I love soundtracks, and too much of Frontier's score hasn't been released as it is. I'm sure there were plenty cues solely in the film versions to warrant it. Though you're probably right that it'll have better impact to one who's seen the film. Like how I can listen to a Williams or Horner score and envision the action. Looking forward to it moreso now. I also agree that the Google keyword is unnecessary. Anyone wanting to download knows where to look anyway. I know I found it before even coming here, and will pick it up when I can.
  2. Yup. Part of the reason I generally avoid that board like the plague. Time to settle in for months and months of careful spoiler avoidance only to have it all ruined by some jackass posting on a Youtube video on in a Facebook thread something vital as if it were common knowledge. Doesn't help that people never get that posting even general reactions can be a spoiler itself. Thanks to an above post, I get the vibe that it's none too happy. I only have the sanctity of non-confirmation.
  3. SCORE! That said, I chose "I don't care". I side with Nicaragua's last post about open endedness, and why everyone has to have everything tied up in a neat little package in order for the ending to be "good". I actually LOVED how the TV series ended. It was fantastically in character for Alto, especially after the whole situation practically crammed sympathy to Sheryl down his and everyone elses' throat. Even he got mildly disgusted by it at her lowest point and was moved to outrage at the Quarter's departure. Throughout the entire series, Alto never came off as the type looking for a girlfriend. He was oblivious or too focused on his own issues. Sure, he cares about both girls, but it never seems so romantically. Alto was always about playing the part. He would look for his part in a situation, and run with it. It was the acting in his blood that he hated so much. With Ranka, it was always the rivalry with Brera over protecting her. With Sheryl, he was very much her lap dog and then a rock of support and protector once she got sick. Why is he flying? What is he trying to protect? Alto is always about the part he feels he needs to play. He runs away from becoming an actor, when he tends to give grandiose performances as "the tough jet jockey". So I can't see either girl with him, no matter which I prefer. It's all Alto. He cares about the girls. He wants to support them when they need it, but not because of love or romance, but because he feels that it's the thing to do, and in turn, they became both his wings. The sky of freedom he sought. Though fans do need "closure" as banal as "I love Ranka/Sheryl" which is probably why there are hundreds of "SherylxAlto/AltoxRanka" fanfics all over the web. Funny thing is, there still would be even if he had picked her (or vice-versa). Fans are fickle things, and most seem to think the average Japanese ending sucks. As for the movie, it really depends on how they change this interaction. Ranka's now a childhood friend, which removes a lot of the separation issues the TV had (entire groups declaring victory for Sheryl based solely on screen time, possible rightly so, as it allows more lopsided development). So already Alto's position has changed. I haven't seen the movie subbed yet, but I do think the opening setups are stronger. Ranka's a friend, and he saved Sheryl. I said when the films were being made that the triangle would need serious reworking in order to justify a choice. Fortunately, we're getting them. There are those that care not for spoilers that already know the choice made. I'd have to get to know movie Sheryl, Ranka and Alto a bit better to say who I'd want to "win". Personal feelings aside, it's such a misshapen matchup of "hot aggressive girl" vs "cute shy girl" over "blind idiot" that it pans out to whomever gets her claws into him the most, hampered by a character design that has most audience members seeing it as a battle between a woman and a child even before they react to personality, that it's no wonder I dropped the romantic aspect of the triangle as a point of interest ages ago and mostly assumed a Sheryl end no matter how poor the fit. It's still an interesting relationship triangle, just not a good romantic one. I'm even beginning to echo the one member that questioned why people got so worked up over it in the first place. So yeah, the triangle itself committed suicide in the TV series so "I didn't care". Yet amazingly it ended correctly. That's a television miracle, as I was firmly expected a forced ending of him to embrace the dying Sheryl as she's cured by Ranka, who becomes the bigger woman and "let's him go so he can be happy" like I've seen in just about everything. Yet it didn't, and that is awesome. Movie wise, I'm still curious, but haven't decided, and refuse to choose on type simply because Sheryl is older and "looks" more the part entirely thanks to character design. So once again, at the moment, "I don't care". Though I care enough that I responded to this thread. After the series, I was so burned out by the shippers that I practically tore down a redundant "Sheryl vs. Ranka" thread (that includes perhaps one of Gubaba's finest posts ever) with my bare hands. So I've obviously mellowed. Still, ain't there more to this show anymore than "who fracking?" Might I add that I find it amusing that I recognize more of my fellow oldtimers names under "I don't care" than either option. Ah, nothing like a cold-addled mind to whip up a late night ramble about anime shipping. Pardon.
  4. We should be heading out around 9ish. I'll give you a ring when we hit the bridge.
  5. Can we even do so, this late in the game? Unless I have some sort of horrid relapse (or Raider3 "forgets" to pick me up), I should be there. Who's on board still, anyway?
  6. Good news is that I'm feeling much better today than yesterday, though I'll see how I am Friday.
  7. Some potential bad news. I caught a pretty bad cold at AOD last Saturday. It hit me full force Monday. I'm doing my best to recover, but if it's not gone by Friday, I can't see myself rightfully attending. I'll keep you guys posted.
  8. Pretty much. Like how I look at those action figure kit and they seem incomplete. I've always painted my kits, starting with my old WWII kits. My only issue with spraycans is the price. My shop just raised them to 7 bucks a can. It's like how I got my MkII at AX for 25 bucks. It was the first kit I ever did entirely sprayed (except the yellow, so little to justify buying a can) The paint probably cost twice the price of the model. So I might go back to handpainting or seriously consider getting an airbrush.
  9. It was a kit I picked up at my local shop a few years back. I got it since it wasn't too pricey, and I liked the F91 movie (didn't know about the manga series at the time). It was my second serious (at in fully painted) mecha kit (after the Aestivalis), the first I ever used sprays on (for the white), and my first metallic paint job. Looking at her now, it's obvious she was an early paint attempt, but you learn with each kit. I know I've posted pictures in the past, but I'll take some new ones if you'd like. She's a little beat up at the moment (fin broke, and some fingers are missing).
  10. I have subs, it's just getting a place to play it. My laptop in the middle of Peace Plaza probably won't work too well.
  11. It'd be nice to find a place to have a showing of the first MF film, seeing as you've inadvertently set the date for the release day of the second one.
  12. Thanks for the input, reeoyuy. I've built a first gen rx-78-2, s I'm familiar with the older MGs. In fact, the only other MG I've built is the MkII v2. All my other kits have been non-grade (a 1/100 rxF91, a Nadesico Aestivalis, some "action figure model kits" I gave little attention to [Mercurious and Blue Astrey] and my current Patlabor). Though I do have a MG Quebeley on tap, though the paintjob has it dead in it's tracks. I'll take the raiser if it is free.
  13. Nice Work, Penguin. Good to know I'm not the only one that relies on spray cans and handbrushing. I've yet to try weathering. I like the bullethole effects. Interesting discussion on the MG Nu and Sazabi. Nu's always been my favorite, so I've been meaning to get that kit. I like the 1/100 scale. Is the nu really that bad? Speaking of the Kshatriya, how is the HGUC? I've seen it at my local shop (for an astronomical 70 bucks). I like the design, but I've seen focusing on MG. I'm almost finished with my Bandai Patlabor Type X-0, so I'm thinking of picking a few kits up.
  14. A legend of the field. His themes always had a boldness to them forgotten or ignored by other composers. My favorite non-Bond being his theme to Zulu. Makes me want to take over a small country or have a rip roaring adventure. He will be missed.
  15. Figured this would be the best place to post this. I've been building a Type X-0 Ingram kit over the past few weeks. She's just about done, though I need some new white to correct some unfortunate black overspray. Pictures below prepaint. I'll post more when she's complete. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=264271&id=538810142&l=8923af51c8
  16. Out of curiosity, anyone seeing the Evangelion movie at New People the week it's playing? It starts the 21st and runs to the 27th. I'll be out of town to Nevada with friends the 23rd to the 25th, so I'm thinking about seeing if a friend can take me on Thursday (assuming he'd rather wait until after said trip) or Saturday. Maybe we can do a mini-meetup then? http://www.newpeopleworld.com/films/films-1-2011/ http://www.funimation.com/evangelion/
  17. Thanks for the tip, though I'm no early adopter anyway. The PSP barely has a chance on that debate.
  18. You don't need it Mar. I still have 100 dollars coming for Christmas. I've been leaning towards more Gunpla or a PSP (moreso Gunpla, though it seems prices have gone up), but a 1/48 roy or Nora is tempting. What's wrong with the SV-51s again? I'd love an Ingram, but still too high. Shame the YF-19 isn't up this time. Tough the YF-21 is also tempting.
  19. Tempting, if a touch limited for the figure collector. Wouldn't mind the X-mas figures. Shame they only have the white ones (dallied a bit too long I think). Quarter's tempting, but i just dropped a 100 on a new drive. Really should've jumped on the Yamato sale for Christmas.
  20. Love to have you Sidearmsalpha. Marm you might want to edit the first post. As is, it looks like we have a set date of 3 months from now.
  21. Never been a fan of the SEED mecha either. It's one of the things that keeps me out of the show. Though I do have a US Astrey from back when it aired. They just don't appeal to me with their flashy, overarmed and/or angular looks. The Strike maybe, and I like some aspects of the Freedom, (paint and rounded design). The Strike Freedom looks horrid with the needless gold gaudying up an already gaudy suit. Though the photos do prove to me something I'd suspected: she looks a lot better without the stupid wings (though it makes the shoulder armor look long). They're also not bad down, I guess. heck, aside from the head, the frame itself looks better in some ways. Spot on Snail00 about the chest. Funny thing is that I've considered getting a Freedom if only because I wouldn't be afraid to use it as a testbed for sharpening my painting techniques. Though it'd probably work better just to get some cheaper models than just MG.
  22. Sort of, if a touch darker or fantastical. Would've worked better had they gone for a more recruitment poster look ("Remember Gallia 4!") Naw, they're both weird (assuming the website splash page is the ranka one).though interesting that they countered "Ranka-cute" without the usual "Sheryl-sexy". Not sure what to make of either of them. Though still better than the False Diva mess. Though I suppose this works given how gung-ho the fleet gets at this point in the series.
