  1. I've got a 50" plasma that would be perfect, but I also have dogs and generally live furthest away.definitely the question.
  2. It's been seven months, and even MacrossWorldCon is behind us. Anyone interested in perhaps a fourth gathering us Norcal-ers left out of the festivities? I'm thinking with the recent subbing of The False Diva, perhaps a group viewing could be arranged. Something in that nature.
  3. Sorry, I must've read it wrong, but yeah, I prefer the movie version too. Glad to see I'm not the only one that caught the further mangling of Sherilu's name, D' Only. Agreed, thought keeping it to one version to begin with would be nice. Still, Lucas could learn a thing or two from Scott or even his buddy Spielberg. Subs are out, real discussion should be picking up. Yes, theoretically, they could add subs as a Blu-ray live download, I think.
  4. I figured I'd be the last to know. Caught it on TokyoTosho. Epic Saturday. Giant's win the pennant, and the Macross F movie gets subbed. A great day, a GOOD day.
  5. Sorry for the delay. Here's picture I took of it. I think I got it for answering a question back when they were promoing Shadow Chronicles, or asking a question. Almost got a Toynami Max (which i already had) and have gotten keychains (got stilled on the figures others questions were getting) and what over the years.
  6. True, though there are always exceptions. I grew up on the theatrical cut of 1776, but vastly prefer the directors cut. I get what you're saying though. It's like how a restoration can look "wrong" (though a lot of times it is ). I just remember that cut having the best flow for the music, but then they added alot and couldn't really keep it (also hated the timing on "Frontier 2059" which was thankfully fixed for the BD). The films been out for four days, and no subs yet, what do you think?
  7. I've been wanting to do that for years. Nice work.
  8. That's a great price on Rise Up Sheryl. A lot less than my friend paid at Fanime for my gift. I don't see why we can't have mention of Valk action figures, but yeah, mainly a statue thread.
  9. yeah, they really fanserviced the characters of late. That whole sunblock cm with Sheryl was just ridiculous. I find it interesting that they labeled her with the butterfly heart emblem in it. I could say the same about Shelley. As for Universal Bunny, I side with those that believe it's simply how they wanted it. Methodical, nuanced movements. the dance just isn't very fluid. I give this a go whenever subs out and I'm feeling up to it. I still like the pre-broadcast version of that concert in terms of editing. Still, it's a lot to throw in. On a related note, it's still awkward to hear Universal Bunny cut out at the point it does. I'm so used to the album cut.
  10. Looked at it quickly online. Yeah, they make the earring issue really vague in episode 2, but I guess it's there. The dialog when she's ransacking the room implies she's looking for the concert video. It's on the video playback that one can sort of see the earring fall, but it's really easy to miss. No wonder I never picked up on it. I knew I was busy watching those early episodes/ . I wouldn't mind your version, Keith, if it just wasn't so obvious to the contrary with her annoyance at him and attitude . It wasn't that big of an issue until she sort of 180ed and opened up in Star Date, then conversations tended to blow it out of proportion. Yadda yadda yadda, etc. etc. Like I said, the damage is long done, and the point's moot now. The new version is somewhat passe, but it works for pacing. Moving on. As for the jerkiness, most of that scene appears to be animated on twos, the faster arm movements even trip into 1s, so I don't know what you guys are talking about. The dance design isn't very fluid, but the animation is.
  11. Maybe I saw a bad fansub, but I never recalled picking up on that until the second time when she outright says it . It made it look like see was looking for the footage, and remembered the earring later. Hence my confusion a few episodes letter when things got more friendly which I questioned, looking at the old threads (Swampstorm did much the same you did years ago in one of the poll threads when I asked why the hell she was following him around come "Stardate". I took the earring explanation and rewatched some of three and left it at that, though watching a few episodes back in July brought it back up on viewing 2). The point's long moot though, since more than a year's past, the damage is long done and I like the movie setup better anyway. Obviously, even they thought the intro could be stronger.
  12. It was because it had some of the worst animation of the series. Gundam and Zakus were waaaay off model most of the time. It's also the true origin of "Shining FINGERRRRRR!"
  13. Holy... It's just a throwaway piece of celluloid from a print people!
  14. I figured as much. Don't worry about it. Some will like it others won't. Just like Frontier itself. I still have something of a love/hate relationship with it. Also, WTF on the Sheryl commercials?
  15. You're forgetting that that was the second time she started following him around. She was done with him, then noticed the earring missing and got all peeved that she'd have to track him down again. That reason I could get. What I never could was the first time. The first time had her scrambling for the concert footage and then she tracked him down for what seemed like little reason than to get back at him for interrupting the performance or cussing her out for leaving (which is about all I can think of, she never says). My guess was they meant for her to notice the earring missing or something and just didn't have time to rearrange the footage. Add in the early broadcast of episode one where all they did was talk about her leaving the concert, and the reasoning gets even weaker. It's no wonder they added the knock off flyaround and change it completely for the film (even if the film version is a touch cliche). Hence why I spent a good part of the first few episodes wondering what the heck she was with him for and how I never really saw her past mildly amusing for a good portion of the show (especially after the whole Zentran panties thing). Such an immature character. That's been the very core of anime for some time. The Japanese have always valued detail over fluidity. Most anime have more in common with Hanna Barbara than Walt Disney. It's the priorities of the style.
  16. Yeah, I'm pretty psyched about that as well. I asked about it years ago, and they said it was because Japan didn't have DVDs, so it was dub only. Did they actually say we'd get episode 15 this time? Assuming you haven't sprung yet, the original R1 box set can generally be found dirt cheap. This is because they messed up on the subs and used the closed caption script instead. The later two disc sets and Legends release corrects this. I heartily agree with watching the series before the movies. So much about what I loved was cut from the films, especially concerning Four. I can't even finish watching them, myself.
  17. For now I'll just quickly repost the small thoughts I had when I watched the camrip back in July. I kept it to a minimum since most didn't bother with it. "Just finished watching the "infamous" camrip, and while I didn't understand everything due to lack of subs, I got enough to still highly enjoy it. The characters seem a bit more balanced and everything is naturally a bit more focused. Though it's obvious this is for fans since the background characters didn't get much of anything. Hopefully, I'll like it even more once the real version comes out and gets fansubbed. Definitely intrigued by the red VF-1. " Personally, I particularly thought Sheryl was hadled better early on, what with Makes more sense why she's following him around this time than the whole "he bumped into me so I'll have my fun" or something of the series. I wasn't able to follow the end so much. All in all, I liked it about as much as I thought I would. Yes, the Sheryl, Ranka, Alto scene described above was definitely interesting. I'm not sure entirely how I feel about the childhood friend aspect, but if it allows the drama to move forward faster for the film, so be it, I guess. I'll post more complete thoughts once a fansub is out. [OOT] Love the avatars, Mr March and Gubaba. The awesomeness of Patlabor and the creepiness of Starlight Natto[/OOT]
  18. Not really needing spoiler tags, but when in Rome... Precisely. The animation seemed on par with the series. Now, I can see complaints about the character designs, as they do seem to fluctuate now and then, but whathaveyou.
  19. I know what you mean about saying things that are negative, but Mari is human after all. People tend to forget that about stars they love. Even I can't say what happened 100%, though I'm sure both parties played their part in it. I've heard the stories, but I tend to leave it to how I've interacted with her. She's always been nice, but you can sort of tell that she's still not thrilled at being Minmay. I agree that reading her Facebook makes it look like she was feeling especially apprehensive about the Minmay issue leading up to the con. Mentioning things like "not wanting to be nostalgic" and how she "sings the old songs for us, not because she has to" and how she'd rather "play for strangers than those that just know her old stuff". She knows that's how she's relevant to anime cons, and isn't happy about it. Unless she does a newer anime though, her ties to the cons will always be from the distant past. I think she sticks to it and redid Minmay for ADV to keep it open as an avenue for new fans, which is a nice attitude to have. I personally don't see anything wrong in acquiring new fans from something you did long ago while appeasing older fans, much like how a band will play hits from older albums, and it's not like her entire concert is Macross songs. Interestingly, she performed "An Angel's Paints" at SacAnime, which is rather amazing, as she usually sticks to just DYRL?. It may be old, but it is something you did after all. Still I can get how she wants to be seen as a current artist, not someone who's glories are behind her, which is the feeling she's presenting as having online. That's the nature of the art though. People will love you for what they love about you. I love her new stuff and all, but her connection to Macross seals it. It's a character I love, and songs I enjoy, and I really don't care that they're 30 years old or not. It's why I try to make the effort to buy her latest CD or what not if she's selling it when I have her sign Macross stuff. Still, if she wants to tap the anime audience, she has to realise that there's nothing wrong with being Lynn Minmay. It's an issue that affects a lot of stars, and I agree that it sucks when your career is so long that it's like you can never top yourself. Best you can do is use it as a bridge, and that's probably why she still does cons. She probably has no idea I actually met her before I even knew who Minmay was too (met her at Fanime 2001 and all I knew was the CD they were playing for the line).
  20. I know I'm too late on this, but I just got back from the con and heard some from my staff friend (who tried hard not to name her, but I knew anyway ). I saw the posts before heading up too, though I'm sure she deleted some as it didn't sound that bad (a lot of self-depreciating stuff). So I hadn't heard about the airport thing, which is messed up if true. There's two sides to the coin, and I hear that she wasn't exactly gracious under fire either . For the sound problems, she apparently was very unwilling to work with the staff on anything and was swearing up a storm (apparently even telling the crowd that "You've probably heard that I've been Bitching") . So essentially they both had issues with one another. None of this being very unusual for her or cons. No one's perfect and it sounds like both sides were being a bit unprofessional. I love Mari, and I know my friend has had bad run ins with her in the past, so maybe he's a touch jaded, so I take it with a grain of salt, but don't just rag on the con, especially if you weren't there and are just going on her rants. I know SacAnime ain't the best, but few are. I'm sure there's truth in both sides of the story, but I know I sure as hell haven't heard all of it . I wish I'd caught the Saturday concert (not like I enjoyed the run up the state that replaced it anyway) to see it first hand myself. I hate hearing about my friends fighting with an artist I appreciate, no matter who starts it. Still it sounds like she patched things up by the concert, so it's s'alright. Probably a mix of the usual con shakes and hiccups. She was still rather nice on Sunday, and didn't seem too terribly disappointed at the Macross stuff she was signing. She participated in the Q&A well enough. She even seemed quite excited to learn that Minmay has a bunny like creature in The First. That said, it was fairly obvious she wasn't entirely enjoying all her time there and it makes me wonder why she bothers with cons if she doesn't really enjoy them. I'm sorry if it is the case. It was quite off and on, but I suppose it was understandable. She even knocked herself to another friend when discussing AX. He told her the surprise guest was Yoko Kanno, and she commented that, "everyone would rather see Yoko than her anyway" when we said we were hoping it was her at the time. Shame she thinks that way. Did anyone here actually catch the concert? Personally, I was just glad that I got to see her again, get my items signed (once again, just about everything Minmay related has her name attached ), and that she still remembers me.
  21. Curious if anyone intends to hit SacAnime next month for Mari's concert. I'll be there Sunday, having to miss the rest of it thanks to my family habing the worst timing for Disneyland trips ever (not the first time they've picked a lousy week @_@). http://www.sacanime.com/
  22. Nice to finally get to hear some of Voices, even in the bad quality. Still sucks that I missed that.
  23. True, it's not Eva. Though I'd say Nadia has far less merchandise related to it. Same with some of their newer titles, to say nothing of stuff like Otaku no Video. Gunbuster has a decent amount of stuff out there. So I merely take issue with the claim turning from "barely merchandised" into "never merchandised", as he basically uses that strawman argument to paint it as representing something so opposite from what he's debasing and to then trash on Gainax for "finally selling out" on something they'd long since been selling out on. Though I suppose the point is moot since his reply to the list. Really, outside of Eva, they've marketed their shows really no differently from any other studio. Hell, I'd take bigger issue with Kyo-ani's trolling of Haruhi with the Endless Eight debacle than Gainax's overselling of Eva. Not to mention that this is mostly hearsay and conjecture anyway, along with the part you bolded. He's even said this is just what he assumes, so I guess the point's moot. I'm not sure Anno has ever come out on how he feels about marketing. His exasperations with fans are well known, but those are usually over the psychological aspects of the show taking over.
  24. Don't remind me. The horror, oh the horror of it all...
  25. WOW, thank's Isamu! he also manged to get 4 of May'n's songs too, including Universal Bunny and Northern Cross, two of my favs. The only other recording I'd found was snippits, but these are full recordings. Nice. It's in reference to the original series episode "Pine Salad". Even I thought they might kill Ozma because of it. Hell of a troll. I know what you mean, UN Spacy. I've even got assurances who might go next year, but I tried to explain that it all depended on who was there. I can see my friends at more local cons, and since the staff shakeup, I hear this con wasn't too well run (like my friend just a few people behind you being kicked out of the autograph line at 5:50pm). So it really depends on who's there.
