I really like the idea of the removable side shields. This is something that should have been included along with the FAST Packs and reissues a long time ago. It just makes sense to have them, even without any armored parts. Makes the mecha look better.

Aaahhh, always nice to see Macross representation There were quite a few interesting mecha in your pictures. Funny thing about science fiction, fantasy, and anime, I could always enjoy the actual spaceships/props/mecha while disliking the show itself. Leads to a lot of expensive purchases

Looks kinda cool without a heat shield. I'm inclined to remove the shield from one of my Yammies and see what it looks like. More a novelty I admit. It is terrible that you CF is missing the shield altogether. It's sad that QC issues like this happen far too often.

Well, in anticipation of prohibitively high gas prices, I've already cut the ass out of my leather pants. It looks like I'll be looting and raping for the next few years. Does anybody know where I can find a "golden youth" to ride shotgun? 330411[/snapback] LOL Last thing I wanna see you doing is that bsu. I'll hope for low oil prices soon

Are Pages Slow to load for you too?
Mr March replied to Roy Focker's topic in MW Site News & Member Feedback
MW has always been among the fastest message board systems of which I've been a member. The only problems I've ever had have been traced back to my own internet connection, so it's never been MW itself that was a problem. I use ADSL from Telus. -
There is always some asteroid/radiation/cosmic menace about to wipe out all life on Earth found by some guy looking through a telescope. Is it possible? Absolutely! Is it likely? Eeehhh, not really. Is there anything we could do about it? Nope. Kinda reminds me of (and no offense to anyone) the predictions of inevitable disaster found in so many religions. The sky is always falling and we've been on the brink of armageddon for thousands of years...except life goes on unabated. Stories like this are pretty much just an attempt at similar fear-inducing tales of ever-impending doom. So, what are you gonna do for the next 9 years?

Very nice!

Well, I hoard wallpapers, so I suppose eventually I will share some of the scanned pictures with whoever should ask. But quite frankly, I could scan a lot of them from the book myself, using the scanner at work. I'm just too lazy. I prefer to avoid posting self-portraits of myself on the net, so I wouldn't really want to take a picture of myself with book in hand. Personally, I think some of the pictures (say a half-dozen paintings) should be released for everyone. Afterall, this project shouldn't really cater just to those fans with large bank accounts...or at least those willing to waste all their funds on all things Macross However, there may be a way to help screen those that want the entire book. There are many pages lacking page numbers with multiple pictures and many pages filled with text. Since none of these pages exist online as of yet, many can be used as test questions. What is the third picture going clockwise on page _ ? What is the third english character on page _ ? What does the 5th symbol of line three on page _ look like? Make sense? Could be a good way to help filter those who own versus those who don't.

Surely an honorable effort, but how is one to prove he/she owns the book. For example, how can I prove to you I own my copy? My receipt is long since recycled

Science Fiction References in Music
Mr March replied to the white drew carey's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The Red Hot Chili Pepper's song Californication (from the 1999 album of the same name) features several referential lyrics to science fiction. "Space may be the final frontier, But it's made in a Hollywood basement. Cobain can you hear the spheres, Singing songs off station to station And Alderaans not far away It's Californication" Jamiroquai's 1996 album Travelling Without Moving (itself a reference to Herbert's "Dune") features several songs referencing science fiction, with the single song Cosmic Girl providing probably the most overt examples. "Like some baby Barbarella, With the Stars as her umbrella, She asked me if I'd like to magnetize Step in my transporter, So I can teleport ya. Sends me into hyperspace, Where I see her pretty face" -
Frank Herbert's Dune books along with Isaac Asimov's Foundation series are probably the best examples of what one would term greatest science fiction epics in literature. Not only do these works embody the very definition of a grand epic in scope, but they each deal with numerous issues affecting large scale civilizations such as commerce, law, ideology, enviromentalism, politics, territory, resources, and many other incredibly significant aspects of human civilizations. Naturally, it goes without saying that these sagas were each researched thoroughly and written by two of science fiction's most prodigious talents. In cinema, there can be little arguement that Star Wars is the medium's greatest epic science fiction work. It is regretable that this saga maintains its place, if for no other reason than a lack of other significant attempts in the science fiction genre to create large, continuous stories across six films. Franchises like Alien, The Matrix, and the Terminator have each attempted to create grander stories with limited success, mostly due to lack of a single, unified vision. Even the Star Wars films, which rate in quality form excellent to poor, maintain the greatest mantle only because there is no competeing contemporary. The works of Larry Niven's Ringworld books and Iain M. Banks Culture novels each represent numerous aspects of great epic writting in the science fiction genre. If a cohesive, singular vision and plot format were expressed more strongly in the multiple books of each respective franchise, these would most certainly qualify as powerful competitors in epic, grand vein of stories in sci-fi literature.

That's certainly a rarity. A person sees so many live acts, yet so few really offer anything and fewer still actually make it anywhere. It's even worse when you really like an act that never makes it or suffers bad luck. Best of luck to them.

The People That Piss You Off Thread
Mr March replied to Ishimaru's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
People who start pointless threads piss me off. And I'm pissed off even more at myself for wasting my time with this smart-ass reply. -
I beleive I once said in jest that if Cronenberg directed Escaflowne, the current movie version is what you'd get. My opinion hasn't changed much

A "War on Terrorism" forum? Best wishes with your new board

Jemstone is around. She's just discriminating about the post she makes. Trust me, I can relate.

I was seriously debating the purchase of a second Tenjin book just so I could do this very thing. Problem is, I lack a scanner However, I applaud your undertaking. I'm sure everyone here knows me well by now. I'm always screaming for good quality, hi-resolution scans for wallpaper. I've got hundreds of pictures and I can never find enough

The current logo is fine as long as work is in progress on a similarly colored scheme for the boards. If not, then Hurin's work is most certainly preferred.

You can purchase them online at a number of different places, all of whom supply official products. Websites like Valkyrie Exchange and Hobby Link Japan are just two examples of legitimate dealers who have been online for years.

I'd have to say I totally disagree with the assessment that new anime is terrible, especially in comparison to older anime. Like popular music and film, trends appear over time that may not always appeal to every viewer. But distaste for current trends by no means invalidates them nor implies such trends are inherently inferior to the styles upon which you were raised. In fact, innovative presentation (which may or may not become a trend) is more often significant than the actual concept or story of a given work. So many of our stories are simply modern updates of tried and true tales, merely given more relevance to current life. In film, Quentin Tarantino is often cited as the most recognizable example of a director who sticks rigidly to classic stories of 60's/70's action cinema but presents these stories in a new, highly innovative format with aggressive emphasis on modern film style and techniques. I've been an anime fan for two decades now, yet Cowboy Bebop is easily one of my favorite animes of all time, a series which is circa 1998. Personally, I embrace new trends, styles, and innovation in any genre of art or entertainment. The more diverse and bizzare, the better.

OMG, that name sure brings back memories of adolescence. I remember one of my friends listening to them religiously.

I'm surprised there isn't more emo mentioned on MW than just your post. I haven't read completely through this thread in a while, but from what I can recall there isn't that much representation among the favoured bands of most MW members. Emo is so much like J-pop (IMO), but I suppose the lack of mainstream exposure may have somthing to do with it.

The copper connections on the inside boards wear down the more you insert and eject the cartridge. Eventually, they wear to the point that the cartridge has difficulty making proper contact with the port. Although not so evident on carts rarely played, this failing is problematic of excessively used and previously rented carts.
