That sticker actually looks really good on your truck. I was expecting to see something lame and clashing, but it's fantastic. I'm now jealous

I love Starcraft, but no computer game is worth dying for...although Half-Life 2 comes close If there was ever a game one would consider a problem for me in my long history of PC and Console gaming, it would have been Quake II. Although it wasn't my first online game, it was the first online game I became obessessed with. For some reason I had to be the best at the game. I would practice every day and spend entrie weekends, 10:00 am to 4:00 am playing. It got to the point where I was being actively sought out for challenges by tourney players. Fortunately, I stopped playing because I got worn out, but I was never in any danger of dying. I gotta have my pizza and chocolate ya know!

If I was looking at each woman in Macross as realistic, I'd have to go with either Claudia or Lucy. They both had good looks, a great sense of humor, and they both knew what they wanted. They were also exciting and interesting women, they knew how to have a good time but they could also talk about more than makeup or clothes. Everyone other female in the Macross stories were either messed up, had issues, or were just plain drifting with no direction, with Misa being a possibility with a bit of coaxing.

OMG does this dropship rock! This dropship rocks OMG! I am floored. The pictures do it no justice. This thing is amazing. <insert more rampant fanboy self-soiling> Well, I'm going to try and calm myself enough to take some pictures and post a proper review in a new thread. Needless to say, this Dropship and APC was worth every penny, despite any flaws. What a work of art!

Remember, remember the 5th of November
Mr March replied to Ladic's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yeah, what Duke said. But keep in mind, this is a film version. I haven't read V for Vendetta, but I know enough to be a little surprised by the fighting-focused trailer that was released. Makes the story appear more like a summer box office action flick than what V for Vendetta is actually about. -

Don't worry Pat, you make a good point. If for no other reason than "<whatever> raped my childhood" has long ago outlived its 15 minutes. -

While Darren Aronofsky was attached to the Watchmen project, there was a very good chance that he understood the source material well enough to make a proper, unconventional film. That was just the sort of director a project like Watchmen called for. Sadly, he's now out. Currently, Paul Greengrass is attached to the project. While the Bourne Supremacy was a fun film, it's not exactly deep. One bright spot is the fact Greengrass did Bloody Sunday, which was a very good film and very deep in character and ideology. Sadly, I feel Greengrass will exit as well eventually and Watchmen will befall the same fate as the faltering X-Men franchise. -

Don't go Ali. Stealth is far too transitory to get all worked up over. So you don't like Roy, big deal. Macross World moderation is not heavy or excessive and it's very predicatble, so it's easy enough to stay out of trouble. Don't leave angry over something as stupid as Stealth -
After the mess they made out of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I don't blame him. Honestly, Finding Forrester was a better movie than that. Alan Moore's GN was great. The movie blew. Something tells me V for Vendetta is gonna suck too, even if Natalie Portman is in it. The guy supposedly got so fed up with his books being made into crappy movies, hes gonna stop working for DC..... 316662[/snapback] Don't want to derail this topic anymore than I have and I don't want to repeat what I've already posted elsewhere here on MacrossWorld, so I'll post a link to my thoughts on topics similar to your point here: V for Vendetta thread

Not all hope is lost. Remember that the bigger and more homogenized the mainstream of any industry becomes, so will demand for alternative product grow and the size of this market increases in turn. Independant films made great strides in the late 70's and throughout the 80's as a direct result of mundane mainstream fluff that polluted cinemas around the world, until in the 90's it made a breakthrough into mainstream and created a wealth of great film to enjoy. So too is the music industry currently undergoing a shift as a result of overexposed mediocrity. The rise of hip hop and rap into the mainstream is a direct result of the consumer base looking for an alternative to the horrible state of modern pop rock. This too has influenced other areas of popular music, as rock and metal are currently going through a reniassance of sorts, with many bands returning to the roots of classic rock and succesfully innovating it with more minimalist approaches. Back to Doom, I believe the film is a victim in this transition period. Like I said, it's another franchise with just enough stylistic seperation to differentiate it from a dozen other films all made in the same vein. But rather than weep for it, perhaps we should look toward and support more worthy product. the 2005 year has certainly seen the movie-going consumer talk with their dollar and I think studios have no choice but to notice. Let the public relations departments spew their crap and defend their mediocrity currently in release and claim they all know it isn't their bad films responsible for the major box office slump. The studios that survive will be the ones that clue into the demand for better product that the mainstream public has finally decided to choose.

George Lucas now wants to rape your adulthood...
Mr March replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Actually, this is more or less what I can see as likely, given my limited understanding of the asian anime industry. I can see Lucas introducing the writers, artists, and producers of anime to a wealth of new technology and techniques for making better product with cheaper production costs. Even as a box office whore, Lucas knows how to make the most of his budget. He made the prequels for extremely modest sums, considering the outrageous level of uber-expensive FX in the new Star Wars. How he managed to make them for $115 million each when other sci-fi flicks with a third of the effects cost $200 million plus is beyond me. However, I can't see his own material of mono-CG film and television being successful in a market which has proven time and again that it prefers traditional cell animated works even when offered a high quality CG alternative. Gawd, that made me sound like a narrow-minded, Hollywood studio executive, but I gotta go with my gut. I hope for Lucas' success, but expect better ancillary benefits for the japanese animation industry as the likely result. -

Mr March replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I couldn't agree more. CG animation seems to make most sense when used as a complimentary process for inanimate objects along side cell-animated characters. I look at all the anime I enjoy featuring CG effects and it's clear that background and mecha art in CG are superior to hand drawn styles, but characters definitely benefit from the more life-like, expressive art of cell animation. Much like the use of CGI in live action films, the best dramatic performances are always from skilled actors, while fantastic creatures and hardware benefit from CGI greatly over models and puppets. Macross Plus and Cowboy Bebop stand as probably the best use of background, complimentary CGI, while Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex is probably the best example of foreground CG effects for non-character objects. As a fan of anime and CG effects, I applaud the development and evolution shown in SAC as the direction in which I would like anime to take. Not only does it work both stylistically and artistically, but it is a much needed way to reduce cost and propell anime forward as a art/entertainment medium. Although I don't care for the anime, I must say that Yukikaze displays the most vivid and visually exciting use of CG animation in an anime that I've ever seen. In the hands of better writers and skilled director, CG animation such as that of Yukikaze would impress even CGI-weened western audiences of the virtues of anime. -
It's funny, but my friend recently told me a great story about Con Air He saw Con Air in theatres and never thought much of it. Years later, he received the DVD from a friend while he was still living in the UK and pretty much avoided watching the disc more than once because of his distaste. When he moved here to Canada two years ago, he sold all his region 2 stuff before he left, so he was rid of Con Air at last. Last month, he happened upon a Buy-3-For-$20 DVD sale and picked a couple favorites he'd been meaning to get, but was stumped to find a third disc among the marked items. He then came across Con Air on the shelf, recalling that he once owned it and figured that it was good enough to own again. When he watched the movie, he was appalled by how much he hated it and cursed his own stupidity, now realizing why he had despised it so. Rather than try to sell his DVD or garbage it, he has decided to keep it. He has placed it on the top of his shelf, seperate from all his other DVDs, but always within line of sight of his collection. He bestows upon the DVD the honor of a life lesson and says this one bad movie that he can't stand will remain in his collection as a constant reminder never to purchase crap films again. I swear I nearly ruptured my spleen with laughter

The other thread about the dropship has much better information about the two versions. The Unit 02 dropship is a clean paint job, weathered free.

George Lucas now wants to rape your adulthood...
Mr March replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Lucas has always been involved in several industries related to film and computer animation. It is no surprise that he would be interested in various aspects of the japanese film industry, considering his fondness for both groundbreaking technology and japanese film art. What is rather strange is that he wants to bring fully computer animated productions to Japan. The japanese market has been exposed to fully computer generated productions for over a deacde, but the market has clearly shown the lasting preference for traditional, japanese cell animation. He has his work cut out for him. -

Why anyone would nominate a black rectangular prism with a red dot on the side for a "babe" of any sort is beyond me. Unless... YOU'VE BEEN LISTENING TO THE CD! Actually, Nicholas Cage can act quite well when given a good role. His work in Adaptation and Matchstick Men was very good, despite the fact that neither of those films were extraordinairy. I was quite impressed with what he had to offer in those two films, enough so that my opinion of him was changed significantly. I think he is quite skilled at his art in contrast to the projects he accepts and certainly better than most.

I think Sean Connery has a great line about the current state of cinema in North America, movies that are just good enough to fill release dates and produce product for product's sake. taken from IMDB: Connery Says He Won't Work for Hollywood's "Idiots" Sean Connery, who has not made a film in nearly three years, said over the weekend that he is not likely to make another one. In an interview in New Zealand, Connery remarked, "I'm fed up with the idiots ... the ever-widening gap between people who know how to make movies and the people who green-light the movies." The 74-year-old Connery, who remains Britain's highest-paid actor added: "It would almost need a Mafia-like offer I couldn't refuse to do another movie."
