1. That's the one! I knew I read the name Venator-Class somewhere, possibly in one of my Star Wars Cross Section books. Yeah, you can tell it's a Star Destroyer, the wedge shape is unmistakable.
2. Not nearly as worrying as the knee-jerk reaction to a dissenting opinion, a generalizing tirade, and ignoring the request to stay on topic, something even A1 did when "Mr. March" asked. Your position and fervor have been made quite clear, but we'll continue the actual topic. Thanks.
3. How odd that you should start such a thread bsu. You're one of the people I'd vote for Admin if we were ever asked.
4. I've watched my more than my share of anime with lousy japanese voices to know that's no guarantee of quality. Besides, if my memory serves me, your opinion on the matter is analgous to a debate of quality chocolate ice cream vs. poor chocolate ice cream: you hate ALL chocolate ice cream. So, you're better off not eating it and we're better off without asking you
5. And I'm sure it's a wonderful world you live in too It's also a topic for another kind of message board...ergo, not this one.
6. Lousy charity? How so? 352710 Its Christian. 352715 LOL. If only life were so simple. I'm afraid charities are like anything else, lousy doesn't care if you're religious, atheist, black, white, smart, or dumb, it'll nail you just the same
7. Lousy charity? How so? 352710 As the old addage goes, if you can't do better, then quote... "a wildly expensive way to help small numbers of the non-poor" I'll leave the sexual charges of the HFH founder as icing on the cake
8. You just had to, you cheeky bastard :)
9. Posted on the Internet Movie Database news today: Lucas Endorses Sale of Lego Attack Cruiser An 8-foot model of a Star Wars Rebel Attack Cruiser made entirely of Lego blocks was being offered on eBay Wednesday, complete with a certificate of authenticity signed by George Lucas, the Lego Group said. Proceeds from the sale will benefit Habitat for Humanity's hurricane relief effort. According to the posting, the model includes "functional elements and secret treasures." Bidding, which opened at $2,500 on Wednesday, had risen to $6,100 by mid-morning today (Thursday), with nine more days left to go in the bidding. IMDB News I wasn't aware the toy companies created offers such as this, but I have to admit the item looks fantastic. However, any Star Wars fan can tell you it's definitely not a Rebel ship, it's certainly a Star Destroyer. It's too bad such a lousy charity had to benefit from this sale, but at least their hearts are in the right place...or their public relations agents, depending upon your level of faith/cynicism It appears eBay will not let you link to an ongoing auction (thanks to bsu legato for pointing this out). Just go to eBay.com and type in LEGO Rebel Attack Cruiser and you'll get a featured item which you can click. EDIT II A Link That Works (thanks to Kanata67) http://cgi.ebay.com/8-Ft-One-of-a-Kind-LEG...1QQcmdZViewItem
10. Nope. No good. Not working. It's horribly melodramatic with far too much pretense in both inflection of the dialogue and even enunciation of individual words. This new dubbing of Macross is standard fare, displaying an inability by voice acting production staff to dub anime as something less outrageous. No attempt is being made to create a more subtle, unemphatic performance which would certainly suit a production like Macross. The new english cast for Macross insists upon "creating" inappropriately overstated voices for the characters, rather than simply using their own voice and acting the part. Perhaps if Macross were produced as a live action stage play the grandiose, excessively articulated voice acting in this new dubbing would work well. As it stands, this dub is no better than the voice acting in a poorly translated console game or a sci-fi comedy anime like Martian Successor Nadesico. This is very disappointing.
11. Thanks man, I agree. I WOULD make a fine addition to the staff. 352377 Nah, Governators are on the way out. It's all about the religous fundamentalists now, like the Gibson campaign
12. I wonder if the community could offer suggestions for people to be Administrators. I can think of a few members who post here often and contribute some good stuff who would make fine additions to the staff.
13. I hope Shawn and Graham don't take that post personally, but I couldn't blame them if they do. Personally, I would rather MacrossWorld slide with little or no updates just as long as it continues to serve one very important function...remain online. At the very least, current content remains in place and there will always be a community in which to gather. On the flip side, should Shawn and Graham decide they've had enough of the complaining and blunt posts from people who don't run/pay for websites telling them how to run their's, they'll simpy close MacrossWorld. A lot of good patronizing them has done at that point. I hope the best comes out of this kind of posting, but I'm expecting worse given the lack of diplomacy.
14. The best to you both! I expect free booze btw
15. Will the two of you just get a room already. Besides, I'm in the mood for free liquor when I'm invited to your spring wedding
16. I think you're right to an extent, too many models in Gundam, but in Macross, there weren't enough models. In space war one, you had essentially VF-1, with two armored variants. Then five destroid models. I don't mind it I guess with just Macross, but I thought they should've had a few more models with the rest of the Earth forces. I'd compare this to the 1980s U.S. armed forces, there were four mainstay fighters at that point. Not to mention a plethora of other bombers, support aircraft, etc. That's why I come down on not quite enough models. 351878 Space War One was a single conflict, one which lasted only a year (February 2009 to February 2010) and the majority of which involved only a single UN Spacy warship. Something like the Valkyrie would be the only Variable Fighter option within the contraints of such a brief conflict. True research and development takes time. Our suspension of disbelief would have been shattered had a plethora of VF designs been produced and participated in actual combat during SW1. After SW1, the opportunities to create new VFs would be extremely limited. Post-war Earth was decimated, it's population and industry destroyed on a global scale. There would be shortages in everything from personel, materials, and manufacturing. Despite these problems, in November 2010 they began designing new mecha like the VF-5000 and the VF-4. If we're talking more than just VFs, how then is it fair to include all of the craft in the U.S. armed forces (bombers, support craft, etc) without including all the SW1 craft in Macross for comparison? For starters, you would have the VF variants like the VE-1 Elintseeker and the VT-1 Two-Seater Trainer. Then there would be the non-variable fighting craft such as the F-203 Dragon II fighter, the SF-3A Lancer II Space Fighter, the QF-3000E Ghost Fighter Bomber, and the FL-2 Mistral. You would also include things like the ES-11D Cat's Eye Recon craft and the VC-27 Tunny VTOL Transport Craft. The list goes on. Macross doesn't get into new designs until after SW1 (and thankfully so). The VF-4 Lightning, the VF-11 Thunderbolt, the YF-19/YF-21, and others all come afterwards, when enough time is available to properly introduce such craft. One would also be reminded that since the release of Macross Zero, the VF-0 and SV-51 designs were part of the SW1 era variable fighter index. Like Graham, I too appreciate a more balanced variety of mecha in Macross. Not only does this keep the Macross fiction fresh, it avoids saturation of designs. This prevents a degradation of our suspension of disbelief and stops flooding the toy market with incrementally, but fundamentally unncessary mecha just for the sake of mecha.
17. Aside from some new Yamato news, there's really not much Macross happening that demands a lot of attention to the website. Sure updates and new stuff is nice, but in the down time such as it is now, I'm just glad we have a place to discuss Macross stuff.
18. Episode 14 "Global Report" I cannot stand recap episodes. They are a vain attempt to either review for the audience what has happened up to this point (in case they slept through the first 13 episodes) or to update new viewers who weren't watching in the first place, so who cares? If there are some things that have been done, killed, then resurrected and killed again in science fiction, it is the evil twin, time travel, and the recap episode. Recap episodes should be illegal along with spandex, disco, and orange juice commercial jingles.
19. I remember Witchblade. I picked up the first issue when my eye caught this wonderful airbrushed painting stretching across the front and back cover. I still own that first issue to this day. I never followed it that much, I think I left at issue 11. Best memory I have...about 6 months after the first issue was released, Witchblade was the hottest thing going. A customer at this comic book store I occasionally frequented overheard my desire to sell the series (except #1) and offered to buy issues 2-5 for $100. Having paid cover for them, I heartily agreed. Biggest profit I ever made on a comic book in my life. I wonder if they are still worth anything. Probably not nearly as much. Comics were always such a hot-and-cold hobby, I can't imagine much has changed. Nottingham was badass. I especially like the John Woo-esque triad hitman that he took out in the beginning of the story. That car scene was classic
20. I'm glad I wasn't collecting Macross models/toys at that time. Not that I'm much of a collector at all (owning only three Yammies and that's it), but even at $1,200 a pop I never would have been willing to pay that much.
21. Got a friend who is crazy for Jackson's more pulpy flicks like Bad Taste and Braindead. He's so nuts about King Kong that I will have to see it. Not really all that opposed, but I'm not really a King Kong fan. King Kong, Godzilla, and all that stuff never really worked for me. But it can't be any worse than Get Rich Or Die Tryin' now can it?
22. More! MORE!
23. I know how you feel. I saw the Television DVD section at most of the retailers this month. Looking along I see tv shows that were better left buried in the past ("Real American Hero"...I swear to god). Someone hit me with a frozen trout and stop the pain. Worst are the treatment some of these shows receive. I mean are these junky TV series really worth an uber box set with more special features included on the DVD than some of the biggest films in the last 10 years? If I had a heart, it'd be broken
24. Sergio Leone was the sh1t! There are only two types of people, those that like Leone films and those who don't, otherwise known as dorks
25. Wow, is that supposed to be Colossus? The second film was far better with the effect. This clip doesn't look any better than the T-1000 from T2, and that was back in 1991. Weirdness.
