Really? I'm an avid B5 fan and am not sure what you are referring to? 349975 J. Micheal Straczynski had Babylon 5 planned for 5 seasons. Unfortunately, B5 was in danger of cancellation several times during the run of the series, but none so critical as the cancellation possibility that occured during season three. Warner Bros. was indicating there would be no 5th season for B5. JMS and company were told that it would be best to wrap-up B5 in the 4th season. In order to salvage the overall story arc of B5, JMS decided to write the story so it would end in season 4 and drop several side arcs to trim the story down. The Shadow War was originally scheduled to be resolved at the END of season 4 according to JMS, leaving the Earth Civil War to playout amongst various other events in 5th season. As it turns out, B5 was never cancelled and was renewed for a 5th and final season. So JMS resurrected several of the dropped side arcs and created some further plots for the story (notably, the prelude to the Telepath War). This became 5th season.

X-men 3 Pics: Beast And Angel Revealed
Mr March replied to bsu legato's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
The teaser is pretty safe. No doubt, they made it that way on purpose. The powers that be know damn well the fan following and the summer movie audience think fondly of the first two films, so they seem to be keeping a low profile with the teaser. It doesn't necessarily improve my opinion of the third film, but it doesn't confirm any of my fears as yet. I suppose, that's the point. I remain skeptical as always. This is one x-flick I'm unlikely to see opening weekend, but anything is possible. -
I have to say I agree with those that loved the last episodes of Macross. Perhaps circumstances did interfere and changed the nature of SDFM's final presentation, but I found the series flourished with the final arc after Love Drifts Away. The aftermath of Space War One was handled perfectly, as was the story of the Zentradi malcontents. In fact, a plot thread like the Zentradi malcontents, in the hands of a lesser writer, would have been given a sugar coating and cut off leaving the fans with a bad after taste. But in SDF Macross, that thread is given life and handled very well. The last episodes also put a close on the archs of several supporting characters and created potential for an interesting future story in the Macross franchise (regardless of the poor way it was handled after the fact). The way in which Macross was completed is much better and more interesting than the standard fare so typical of the science fiction genre. Babylon 5 was another series that changed it's pacing due to circumstances placed on the creative team. That series too had a fine finale, leading into the potential for other good tales (again, this is ignoring what we know after the fact). There is something...desolate and desperate about that last act of SDF Macross. The themes and emotion conveyed through those final episodes is unlike anything else in the entire series and I dare say the character's emotions are much more tangible and realistic in the final act. It was the final act in SDF Macross that attracted me to the possibilities of sophisticated storytelling in the medium of japanese animation. That kind of emotional breakdown and psychological struggle evident in the actions of the post-war survivors was a primary ingredient of how I view Macross as a whole.

X-men 3 Pics: Beast And Angel Revealed

The makeup job for Beast looks good. The props for Angel look dead on. I'm surprised actually, since I'm pretty much expecting this third installment will fail miserably. Regardless, thanks for the pictures. -
How Does Shoji Kawamori Rate As A Mecha Designer?
Mr March replied to UN Spacy's topic in Movies and TV Series
Shoji Kawamori is definitely up there in the top 10 mecha designers of all time, without a doubt. The VF-1 alone assures Kawamori his place in anime history as one of the great mecha designers, particularly due to the difficulty of designing a transforming mecha that looks aesthetically pleasing in all configurations. The YF-19, YF-21, and VF-11 from Macross Plus establishes him as even better. Kawamori also proved his ability to remain true to his own mecha style, yet create totally different themes for his mecha with Armored Core. In AC, Kawamori abandons the graceful lines and smooth aerodynamic curves of his previous work, opting instead for sharp angles and rugged, tank-like styles while still remaining true to his slim, long legged motif. Kawamori is certainly one of the best designers of all time. -
Great work. Now you have to do a Jango version

Talk of the buried Superman productions always reminds me of the Kevin Smith tale. He was approached at one point to do a Superman film. However there were conditions attached to the project by this one studio rep that lead to a hilarious story. Kevin Smith vividly recalls the big theme this studio representative had for Superman: "I don't want to see the costume, I don't want to see him fly, and in the third act, I want him to fight a giant spider" Obviously, Smith never directed a Superman film, but he does recall that summer, a film was released in which the hero fights a giant spider in the third act. It was called Wild Wild West. Great story

50% Of Evangelion Movie Funds Raised
Mr March replied to Noriko Takaya's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Omg what a lame uniform! That chick looks like she belongs in a bad Stallone flick. "I am da law" *cringes* The value of Evangelion is much debated as even an anime feature. My expectations for the live action adaptation couldn't be any lower. -
Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire...
Mr March replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Oh no my friend, you should read the convoluted reason behind that one! Apparently, the Catholic church had some big meeting on Tolkien when Rings was published. The theological onslaught that followed can only be described as bewildering to a mind of reason. I wish I still had the link that discussed it. To say this "discussion" was a tragic exercise in futile fallacy is to speak of it positively. I'm gonna search a bit on the net... -
More great pictures. It's interesting to see more detail of the GBP up close. The new gray underside armor looks perfect and the new fixed hands are even better. The inside of the missile chambers even features some sculpting, which is really cool. Like the inside of the landing gear housings on the legs and nose of the 1/48. It's a nice touch for the GBP set, especially when all the missile housings are open.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire...
Mr March replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, Galileo only had to wait 350 years until the church lifted the ban on his works, so that's something to look forward to -
That's the great thing about waiting to purchase a console until the most popular game is released; retailers always overstock both game and console in preparation for a big move of merchandise. Always easier to get a hold of the console for cheaper at that time.
-
As I understand it, a lot of console manufacturers lose money on the hardware. It's not until later in the console's life that the hardware starts to turn a profit. Most of the revenue comes from software and licences sold to developers.
-
Oh I'm sure it's a fine game. Just comes down to personal preference. After almost 20 years of gaming, I'm not interested in a game unless it has everything I want. Just a more discriminating consumer than most and it pays off.

Well since we're being honest, I have to say that I'm going to leech the results of the new DVD set from members that post here on MacrossWorld. A dub would be okay, but I doubt it will be the quality I expect and demand. The subtitles have to be something extraordinairy, becuase like I said in the other thread, the Animeigo set had the best subtitling translation of an anime I have ever seen. Lastly, the price better be reasonable. Given my high expectations, I doubt ADV will live up to them. Most likely I will never own this set, unless I see them for sale.

Ooops, should have read all the latter posts first

Hmmm, not really. I'm just expressing my amazement at the hype around this new console release (and by extension, most modern console launches). I know the first X-Box owned a repectable third of the market, but I'm not really sure where the 360 is going to sit other than to guess. But you are right about one thing, the 360 definitely would have had me lining up if Halo 3 was available at launch
-
Well, aside from Halo none of those titles were launch titles so it's a little unfair to criticize the 360 for not having that killer app yet. In the last 10 years only two systems have had amazing launch titles, and that would be the XBox (Halo) and the Nintendo 64 (Mario 64). 346779 Soul Calibur was absolutely a launch title for the Dreamcast. I'm not singling out the X-Box 360 for lacking a killer app at launch. It's a sad reality that more often than not, consoles lack strong software releases at launch (like the PS2 launch). In my opinion, ANY console should have a big software draw if the company wants my business...launch or post-launch. I've personally never understood why people run out to buy consoles when worthwhile games are absent. Of course, this insanity is magnified by those people paying $1,000 + for an X-Box 360 at launch...and those who will do the same for the PS3 and Nintendo.

Hehehe, I'm glad I sold the only 1/60 Yammie I ever owned a few years back Personally, the 1/60 scale VF-0 is the best thing Yamato could have released. Only 1/60 or 1/72 scales of the Macross Plus mecha in a comparable quality design to the 1/48 series could match my excitment over the VF-0. As far as small stuff goes, I'm not interested. Neither am I interested in significantly larger stuff. Stuff like the 1/48 Yammies, the Aoshima dropship, and other like-sized model jets are the perfect scale in my opnion. They make perfect set pieces, like a good hardcover book. I'm not interested in toys as much as I am in replicas.

Improved subtitles? WTH? The Animeigo translation was one of the best subtitling productions of any anime I've ever seen. Good luck trying to one-up them!

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire...
Mr March replied to Mechamaniac's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wow, I can't imagine any straight guy with a real libido thinking that show is "faggy" to watch. I've never seen so much female nudity on TV! Sure I mute most of it, but come on! -
Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero are both getting solid reviews. Frankly, it'd almost be worth the money just to play Halo 2 on a proper controller. 346731 That may be, but I'm talking about THE game, the killer app, the piece of software that totally makes the console. Like Goldeneye for the N64, or Castlevania Symphony of the Night for the Playstation, Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast, or Halo for the X-Box. Those are the titles that utlimately make the entire console worth purchasing, at least IMO. Personally, I want the big game title released BEFORE I purchase any new console. A console without one really isn't worth it to me.

My gawd! Those 360's on eBay are insane! Why would a person pay a $1k for a 360 when they are being sold for less than half that. Amazon.com is even worse. There are units in the Marketplace going for $3,000! Are there even any good games upon release? Halo 3 isn't even in development yet from what I understand, so I wouldn't even buy a 360 until a killer app comes out. Utter insanity.

Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire...

"You like fantasy? Oh, like that Harry Potter stuff?" *nails on chalkboard*
