For what it's worth, when I have encountered the Japanese using French and German terms in anime, they tend to use the meaning of the word in the native language from which the word originated. I'm no expert, but I would think that's pretty much the whole point of using a foreign word in the first place.

Have YOU ever been banned from an internet Forum??
Mr March replied to taksraven's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I can't recall being banned from anywhere of consequence (though I can remember having been), but I have often left lousy boards and when I left I meant it. If I'm not enjoying myself or I'm unable to be helpful, I simply leave. There's very little point in any drama. Honestly, I've never seen the need to get intentionally banned from any forum, except perhaps for some prank. Some don't realize they have more power simply refusing to post on a shite board than posting out of frustration until banned. It's also good to just leave on civil terms because you might get the satisfaction of desperate website owners sending "where are you?" messages, at which point you tell them off with utter satisfaction knowing you have their complete and undivided attention for the length of one good f-you e-mail (I've had the pleasure a few times). A site is dead if it can't sustain regular activity, doesn't matter if it stays online or not nor how many times the owners threaten you with "privilege" speeches. Most forums are also rarely as bad as the people complaining. The truly awful forums, the ones that deserve to die, often do so rather quickly. If forums remain healthy and active, it usually means the site is being run "well enough", even if it's not a great place to be. If a forum doesn't appeal to you, simply find a better forum or build your own. Like I've always said, more fan sites (not less) and thus "choice" is the best policy. -

A cat with a beanie? Bizarre Looking great as always. Well done. What is that little cylindrical looking thing in front of the cockpit canopy (dorsal side)? -
Someone has Taken an Interest in Macrossworld...
Mr March replied to Gubaba's topic in Movies and TV Series
People are watching us! I suddenly feel the need to break out into song, for the entertainment of our Japanese readers. Either that, or I need to threaten death upon fellow Macross World member Seto Kaiba so it's misinterpreted as a genuine harmful attempt, in turn causing an international incident, lol I love Macross! I want Shoji Kawamori to adopt me! Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Macross: Do You Remember Love, Flashback 2012, Macross Plus and Macross Frontier are the best Macross! Macross 7 sucks! If he weren't an asexual fruit loop, Basara would be Hard Gay! All Your Base Are Belong To Us I love anime titles! Please make a new anime titled "Uber Organic Magenta Rhubarb Podiatrist" Please obsessively trim your nose hairs. This has been an Macross Broadcasting System public service announcement. -

Interesting style. Your pictures are very graphic-artist-y. The line work could almost be the beginning of a badge insignia for a uniform. Good work. -
In the next update of my website, I'll be including some revisions to the valkyrie charts with names next to the vehicles. I will also be building some new charts with vehicle names as well.

Haven't had time to look at that tutorial, but I will. Nice work on your Warhawk. Great looking art. -
Variable Fighter Master File VF-1 Valkyrie Vol. 1
Mr March replied to sketchley's topic in Movies and TV Series
This does sound good. Now that I'm up to date with all the published Chronicle issues so far, this sounds like a good investment. Thanks Graham. -
My guess is translating the literal meaning of the word neglects the context in which the word is being used. For example, the word empty is defined as "containing nothing." If I criticize an anime series as "An empty shell of a story," I don't literally mean the anime has no story at all. My context is clearly to criticize the questionable worth of the story as an engaging, entertaining tale.

Hmm, that sounds a bit more involved than my knowledge of PS allows. I don't know how to do paths or effectively use the gradient tools. Maybe I'll see if I can find some tutorials online. -

Make no mistake, I'm very much enjoying these. I like your VE-3 Howler and F-22 Raptor color schemes the best. The diversity of colors is nice and of course the shading is impressive. Actually, I was meaning to ask you how you did the shading/highlights for your VE-3 Howler. I know how you do the traditional shading, using the selection tool and a VERY larger paint brush, like you showed me on your VF-11 Thunderbolt schematics. But how do you achieve those white highlights along the top edges of the craft? -
A very big thanks to you, treatment.
-
No, that's it.

I'd love a screen capture as well. My website makes mention of the rare 6-missile pod variant of the Nousjadeul-Ger (Film Version), but I don't have a good screen shot of it

That looks cool! I like the cockpit and canopy details. Nice work. You gotta do the PAK FA next -
Don't recall that. I do remember my colored art being used in a Bandai poster board display at some Japanese convention

Regrettably, I also have to report the MW forum was inaccessible earlier this afternoon (around 1:00 pm EST).

Will do. Thanks Shawn

With the advent of CGI in film I'm not surprised that the video game influence is so strong. These are computer geeks building most of the special effects for these films, so naturally a lot of them are going to be fans of gaming. That gaming influence will assuredly filter through the creative process to end up on screen. You've also got the majority of the business doing pre-visualization on computers, so producers and set designers are now more influenced than ever by what is happening in the more creative realms of computer entertainment.

Interesting. THat's a pretty good choice for casting. I can definitely see Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern, particularly if they are using Emerald Dawn as a template for the character.

I thought something similar. Although I'm getting a vibe of X-Com mixed with Half-Life 2. Especially the sets of shanty towns, helicopters and squads reminded me of imagery from City 17.

beginning of an ongoing Mech Warrior video game discussion Maybe the threads should be re-titled or merged.

Okay. Then somethings up. We blame them too. As our runt offspring of a lurid affair with Utah, we blame Canda for most everything.

Or worse, everyone picks the 40-ton mech with the most favourable options all-the-time and never choose anything else I liked the MW2 and MW4 customization systems in different ways. They both had methods for controlling the direction of customization, such that it was a bit more true to the actual design/purpose of the individual mech rather than some walking salad bar of weaponry. After all, there wasn't much point in choosing a Timber Wolf/Mad Cat if you didn't want to mount some type of missiles on the thing

Is anyone else having problems accessing MW? For the last week, there have been periodic outages and they appear to be getting worse. They were easy enough to ignore before since the outages lasted for maybe half an hour. Now, I haven't been able to access MW for most of the afternoon. There's no specific error that displays. My browser just times out or sits there doing nothing.
