I'm speaking here within the confines of reasonable expectations. I'm not waiting for some popular uprising, merely plainly and fairly sharing my own opinion on the subject. Should I find myself arguing with some Macross Generation fan here (or on another forum) only for them to ask "Why is Macross Generation being bashed?", they will promptly be directed to this thread. They can protest all they want, but reputation lies not in their eyes but those who stare. But again, the odds of that happening are slim. Personally, I'm more than happy enough to ignore them, criticize the MG site when the subject arises and make a point of demanding the source of information in my future Macross discussions online. Plus, there's a certain amount of personal responsibility to consider. If most MG members don't give a crap that Shaloom tried to pull a fast one on them, being ignorant is their problem. I know people who don't vote in elections either

This has gone beyond caring for the MG community. I know it sounds harsh to say it, but the credibility of the Macross Generation website deserves to fall as long as Shaloom is in charge. Since Shaloom has bullied everyone into a corner, rejecting him and painting everything on his website with the same brush is the ONLY weapon the public has left. Shaloom will not take responsibility for his actions, so figures he can slide by on the charity of our "understanding" and emerge from under his stench of lies smelling like roses. If we indulge Shaloom by forgiving his unrepentant lies and "play nice like reasonable people", we would be guilty of conspiracy after the fact. TO HELL WITH THAT! If the rest of the Spanish Macross community wants to avoid being painted with the same smear of shame as Shaloom, they'll do themselves (and all Macross fans) a favor by leaving the Macross Generation website. Start a new website and contribute something positive to Macross fandom rather than give credence to Shaloom and his house of cards.

Depends upon your definition of "rehash", which is often the victim of a notoriously redefined context each time it's mentioned. By default, any sequel is a "rehash" (to work up (old material) in a new form). This includes good sequels and even sequels better than the original. As good as sequels may be, from Macross DYRL?, to The Empire Strikes Back, to Terminator 2, to The Dark Knight, they are all derivative variations on a theme. There also comes a point in any franchise where you are watching the franchise because it's entertainment first. By far one of the biggest problems most people have stem from their inability to accept that the once mold-breaking, zeitgeist-capturing original production will never be so again (and CAN never be so again). This doesn't mean further Macross can't be good, just that it's original combination can never be new once released. I've always admired how Macross re-forms itself from the basic themes over and over. In fact, it could be argued each Macross production after SDF Macross is equal parts sequel and reboot. The commonalities and reinventions are certainly right there to be seen.

Does it really matter? I mean, as long as the record of this event remains on MW, everything Shaloom does after this will be tainted. Will some believe him? Of course! There's never a shortage of the needy willing to follow, nor those that will agree simply to be disagreeable or to go against the grain for self satisfaction. Will there ever be some army of revisionists threatening Macross? If Macross can survive Robotech and Carl Macek, Shaloom doesn't stand a chance.

Again, more praise-worthy work, REN. Each model you do looks more amazing than the last. I'm impressed with the amount of work you've managed to complete in such a short time. As always, I look forward to more.

THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
Mr March replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Astounding. I love how each of your colors schemes are different. You mix it up well. Good work! The "HelloKitty" by HelloHikaru...very Macross 7-ish (gags) Just kidding. Nice work hh. I'm saving all of these. -
I don't really have any pressing wishes for another Macross series right away. The Macross Frontier movie and all the publications are enough to keep my fandom entertained for a few years. However, on the issue of "Flashback 2012" in relation to Macross, I find it really rather surprising that more short features like Flashback 2012 haven't been produced. Macross, almost more than any other anime, seems tailor made for music videos and AV short films. It can be argued that in some respects most of the Macross anime productions are basically extended music videos anyway. So it seems strange that Big West would not seize advantage of the attraction of creating things like that. Especially during the down-time between major Macross productions, seems like an obvious way to maintain/generate Macross interest.

"Sea Swallow" matches theme with Messiah and Lucifer?
-
Yeah, I've noticed that missing as well. Definitely a great feature worth having.

If pruning is in order, it might be wise to ask the membership to search for threads they want to keep, post links in a dedicated thread and then delete everything else in the DB. Perhaps post a time limit and then after that passes, it's time to purge the board. Just a suggestion if anyone is worried about losing some threads they can't live without.

The forums slowed and then I had an outage. However, there was a difference. The forums tried to load and after about a minute, Firefox came up with a "Connection Timed Out" error. Tried to load the MW forums again about a minute later, same error. That never happened before; before, the browser would just hang indefinitely until I lost patience and closed the window. Now I get errors messages after a minute. So something may have changed.
-
Good so far. I'll report any outages here. Thanks Shawn
-
Outages for me are as described: long wait with nothing happening. The browser just hangs. It won't even time out. Best of luck Shawn!

Valkyrie Lightning Thunderbolt Excalibur ....Sea Swallow? Yeah, doesn't exactly work. Unless the writers had a monty python moment, I think we're safe with "Storm Bird"

Movies that were better than the book
Mr March replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings The film version has the virtue of a much better beginning than Tolkien's original novel, so I admit this is rather a cheat. The first 150 pages of Fellowship has always been one of the poorest introductions I've ever read in a major work of literature. The rest of Tolkien's trilogy is sublime, but even after re-reading the books several times, Fellowship's introduction is still a sour grape in an otherwise fruitful tale. Fight Club This is a tough one since I love both the book and the film adaptation. David Fincher managed to enhance nearly all the aspects of the already solid source material and injected even more of a media zeitgeist than there was in Palahnuik's novel. American Psycho This one always get's the Bret Easton Ellis purists going, but I found the satirical subtext of the Mary Harron film much more entertaining than the all-out repetitive gore of the book. American Psycho's social commentary worked much better in film form than on the written page. The dialogue in particular made for far better material than the vivid mutilations in the book that could have easily been so over-the-top on screen as to become comedy. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? While the book bears only superficial resemblance to the film adaptation, I think Blade Runner managed to grapple with the reality-bending concepts of the story in a more engaging and relevant manner. Philip K. Dick's book was always far more concept than execution, a problem that Ridley Scott easily solved with his amazing visual gravitas. The Shining Like Blade Runner, The Shining is another case where the film director understood how to realize themes and concepts of the book much better than the original creator. Kubrick's masterpiece remains far more engaging and relevant than the Stephen King book. -
THE UN-OFFICIAL COLOR SCHEME THREAD
Mr March replied to the white drew carey's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
I like it! Nice colors. -
Don't even need to ask. AFAIAC, that site is now a write-off.
-
Not surprised in the least. But I will say that the more Shaloom says in his "defense" the easier it is to convince even the most ardent apologist that he's lying. And that is a comforting thought
-
Wow! They really allow the pictures to zoom in. Looks like we'll have to piece them together. That's kinda lousy, but damn they look nice!
-
Just think of all the work and frustration that could have been ignored without this thread
-
Wow! Great comparison pictures. You can really see the difference.
-
I wouldn't take it too hard. People will be wrong for all kinds of reasons. Just keep in mind that they are posting because they are interested, regardless of whether or not they are right. Appeal to them in a way you know will lead to something worth discussing, rather than banging your head against the wall.

About the Macross Chronicles
Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Well, they do name the VF-17 Nightmare gun pod the MC-17, which Seto Kaiba speculated might mean "Multipurpose Cannon", since the gun is both a projectile weapon and a beam gun (Beam Adaptor). So the BP-14D might mean "Beam/Projectile" gun pod. Perhaps. -
About the Macross Chronicles
Mr March replied to Isamu test pilot's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Okay, I think I've discovered a possible reason why Kawamori and Co. changed the designation for the YF-21/VF-22 Sturmvogel II gun pod from GV-17L to BP-14D. I believe they realized that the YF-21/VF-22 Sturmvogel II gun pod shares the same number as the VF-25 Messiah gun pod. They appear to have changed the GV-17L gun pod to the BP-14D gun pod designation in order to avoid confusing it with the GU-17A/V on the VF-25 Messiah. Maybe. Alternatively, it could be as Graham said and the BP-14D gun pod could be a beam gun based on the brief appearance of Gamlin's VF-22 Sturmvogel II in the Macross Dynamite 7 OVA series. That would mean the GV-17L is still valid and meant to distinguish the projectile weapon from the beam-type BP-14D gun pod. Of course, this would require the Chronicle to make a distinction, but I don't think it does. However, the beam designation isn't without precedent, since there is the BGP-01β 55mm heavy quantum reaction beam gun pod / beam grenade of the VF-27 Lucifer in Macross Frontier, which some of us have assumed to mean BGP = Beam Gun Pod. If so, BP might = Beam Pod. Maybe. Anyway, some stuff to consider -

It looks "awful." Good work
