  1. There might be numerous factors of which we're not aware that affect fold travel. Imperfect technology. Limited human understanding. Size of the vessel to be folded. Distance traveled. Effects of fold space itself. Power limitations. I think the point the writers are making is fold technology is just as prone to disadvantages as any other piece of technology. By writing it that way, the writers not only create opportunities for drama but also make the technology feel more real.
  2. Actually, we know a few more distances than the first fold to Pluto in SDF Macross. The problem is we don't have the amount of time passed for these instances of fold travel. In Macross Plus, the distance from Eden to Earth is 11.7 light years. In Macross Frontier, we are told the Frontier Fleet makes a final 1,000 light year fold to reach the Vajra homeworld. But again, in each instance, we are not told the time that has passed during the fold. If we knew that, we could come up with some kind of rate. There is Alto and Sheryl's trip to Gallia 4, which required them to adjust their onboard chronometers upon defold by +172.25 hours. But this time, we don't know the distance
  3. Wow, that website is still around? Last updated, 1998?
  4. Well, that's not Macross now is it? I think Macross ships move at the speed of plot. Aside from that, no other rules governing time vs. distance have ever been given in Macross.
  5. How was that rate established? I don't believe I've ever read of any speed for fold travel being established and I can't recall a fan analysis on the subject.
  6. Space folding in Macross was never really described in any amount of detail. So if it varies from one series to the next, there's very little to debate since the "rules" were never established anyway. What was originally described about space folding doesn't say much other than to imply the whole process of space folding is really an "incidental" type of travel. The actual act of space folding appears to be a beneficial byproduct of swapping real space with super dimension space. The space craft becomes displaced as a result of the process, but the actual process itself is "dimension swapping." Fold (at the Macross Compendium) I think the differing depiction of space folds as using "portals" or "holes" in Macross Frontier is due more to the use of computer generated effects. The new space fold effect in Macross Frontier might also be a return to the original SDF Macross series, which showed the Alien StarShip-1 emerging from a white glowing hole in space, which the ship then penetrated to emerge shrouded in glowing white energy that eventually subsided, revealing the space craft. The subsequent re-launch and first fold of the SDF-1 Macross also appeared to create some kind of "portal" or "sphere" of energy surrounding the SDF-1 Macross. So the Macross Frontier space folds could simply be a modern re-interpretation of space folding that is actually much closer to the visual effects seen in the first SDF Macross series than what the other Macross sequels offered in between SDF Macross and Macross Frontier.
  7. I never said everyone at Macross Generation was ignoring you. I said from your description of the situation on the forums (read: Shaloom hasn't replied to your PMs or responded to your posts, despite being online elsewhere) that you are being ignored in the hopes the topic goes away. I suppose the ultimate test is to look at Shaloom's past activity on MG (ie, how often does he post). If he posted nearly every day for the last month and now hasn't responded in almost two weeks, you obviously know the answer.
  8. Wow! Nice looking game.
  9. I'm getting the feeling from the description of the Macross Generation situation that you're being ignored, probably in the hope that you and/or this issue will "go away." Not a bad tactic really, since eventually, everyone will get bored with this and it's on to the next thread. On a more pointed issue, I'm really sorry you and bishopcruz have to waste your time with this. What I originally feared in all this (losing patience and getting angry) is starting to creep in. Like I've said several times now, this is what I hate the most about this situation, the unnecessary work for what is a hoax wasting everyone's time. We rely on fans like the two of you to volunteer your time and effort doing translations all for our benefit. The more time you have to devote to crap like this Shaloom BS and the more it frustrates you, the less likely you are to be motivated to work on real translations. Negative associations will follow. I too hope this is all cleared up soon, or at least ends in a brawl, which will supply at least some sense of closure.
  10. I think the Macross Consortium was just a vaguely defined plot point created to explain Marj Gueldoa's involvement in the Macross Plus OVA. It's a necessary part of the fictional construct of the plot, required to facilitate the building of Sharon, the X-9 Ghost, the bio-neural chip and so forth. Some entity has to be funding, researching and building all this stuff, so a consortium was created just as a backdrop to make the story work. I don't think there's anything more to it than that, though the Macross Chronicle might expand upon it.
  11. Ron Moore (BSG) is making a new show called Virtuality and there's some new videos available of the series. You can find them in this link: 9 Virtuality Videos at MovieWeb Twelve astronauts onboard Earth's first starship, the Phaeton, are on a ten-year expedition to search for a distant solar system. To stave off boredom the astronauts spend time in the self-created worlds they experience in virtual reality modules. The crew are faring well until someone downloads a bug into the system-is one of them the saboteur?
  12. I don't follow the tournaments or organizations, I usually just watch for particular fighters. I watch everything I can with Fedor Emelianenko. The guy is simply amazing. Watching Fedor fight is like watching Muhammad Ali or Bruce Lee in action; pure art. I love Fedor's determination and concentration and I especially enjoy his dynamic fighting technique. The guy can come up with virtually any strike or maneuver on any day with no pattern to it except the flow of the fight. It's always fun to see what Fedor will come up with when in the heat of battle. Ironically, the first Fedor fight I ever watched was against Fujita, which Fedor nearly lost I tend to think less of UFC matches, mostly because the way it's presented. The fighting rules are too regimented, the style of the coverage is too gaudy and I find the fighting less engaging. I'd rather the rules run more loosely, like the now defunct Pride.
  13. What a frakking cop-out So basically Kawamori has no explanation and when he makes sequels, he'll take whatever he wants from whatever version of Macross. This we already suspected, but it's good to have the direct quote and source for future reference. Thanks for the translation Renato.
  14. I think this is the worst part of the whole affair. Gubaba and bishopcruz should not have had to spend their time and effort debunking fan made crap like this. Shaloom should be ashamed for trying to manipulate other fans like this and for forcing others to spend time and effort debunking his suspect sources. He should know better. I realize that both our members may have enjoyed the research and the work uncovering this fan fib, but they didn't have to be put through this. Especially when there are so many legitimate sources to be translated and researched. I for one am glad the final nail in the coffin of this Shaloom affair has been hammered down.
  15. Well, there's the smoking gun. Fine work Gubaba. Guess the end of this little affair wasn't as anti-climatic as I'd feared.
  16. Maybe a poet. The signature is hilarious
  17. Even though I'm not surprised that fansub groups change dialog (even some official subs do this), I do find it incredibly ironic that fans would be doing so. Especially since fans are always the first crying for accuracy and artistic integrity in the unedited anime they demand, it's hilarious to see fansubs changing meaning of the dialog via their translations
  18. I chose "approx length 450 meters" on my Macross Mecha Manual website as a compromise between the figures, at least until the Macross Chronicle features the Quarter and we have a final, definitive answer
  19. The Revoltech Alien is still going to be released? That's fantastic news. I can't wait! Is there any date?
  20. Be thankful for the spacing, punctuation and coherency. Trust me, the internet has produced far worse.
  21. As far as toy collections go, this is possibly the ONLY collection I've ever seen that doesn't look like total crap. The guy actually built his furnishings and interior design to accommodate the space and colors of his toy collection. Here's a rare toy collection that doesn't make the house look like a Burger King. It may not be to my tastes, but color me impressed with the thought, effort and style (can that word even be used in this instance)?
  22. I'd kill for translations of that "Reaction Weapons" page. Yum!
  23. "Pastafarian! Pastafarian, actually. Kawamori doesn't subscribe to Pastafarianism, particularly what it has to say about his little anime project!"
  24. Guess it depends upon how you look at it. The flip side of trans-humanism that Macross Frontier did explore is no less worth considering. In fact, one might even call it refreshing from a critical perspective of Japanese anime, which is just as guilty of blindly advocating technology rather than pondering the consequences/dangers of it. Macross Frontier may be ultimately limited by being a mecha anime, but Japanese anime is by no means the only genre suffering under the burden of trying to make entertainment first and serious philosophical/technological studies second. Just ask McG Regardless, Grace was great fun from an entertainment standpoint. I loved her role in the series, her machinations and her interactions with other, particularly Sheryl and Leon.
