  1. I really like that gunship grey. Pure awesome sauce
  2. Very likely a combination of both.
  3. I just have to quote Robot Chicken Season 1 "Now, let's say you vant to take out da GI Joe..." Nice work.
  4. Will do.
  5. Yeah, I like them very much. They are all going in the "For Fans Only" section in the next update of my website. This newest one is hilarious. That face is somehow very fitting for the VA-3
  6. Saw this on the MAHQ. I have to say, this Catalyst Games company sounds quite uninformed. They say they researched prior to commencing plans to return these mecha, but didn't know that a lawsuit in the mid 1990's was what originally disallowed the designs from FASA and it's products? How could they not have known that? Worse still, how could they not be aware that HG used the designs in Robotech? At this point, one has to wonder if these people at Catalyst are at all aware that these designs are originally from a 25 year old animated show from Japan. I'm beginning to suspect they are totally ignorant of Big West or the 2002 Japanese case that gave Big West final ownership over the designs. Which is doubly surprising, given that all this is on Wikipedia. "Research" indeed
  7. Cautiously optimistic for this one. I hope it's good, because so far summer movies have sucked bad
  8. I color line art in Photoshop CS, using layers and the "multiply" feature. It's quite easy and very user-friendly. First, I make the best possible scan I can and then clean it with linear burns/dodges. This makes the lines definitively solid without losing the fine details and leaves the lines smoothed via anti-aliasing. Second, I then build a .PSD file (Photoshop's native format) using the line art as the top layer, set to "multiply". The multiply feature allows all subsequent layers (the color layers) to be seen beneath the line art layer, but the line art layer remains solid and is never colored over. Hence you can color anything and even introduce effects, all without ever disturbing the line art itself. But one can always modify the line art layer too, if one were so inclined The problem with .gif files is they don't scale, not even in Photoshop. One has to copy and paste the contents of a .gif file into another format (like Photoshop's .PSD format) and THEN you can scale the pictures. For some reason I've never understood, if one tries to scale .gifs, it distorts the hell out of the image. Especially when you're shrinking something in a .gif file, the image doesn't scale properly and instead comes out all blocky. Very bizarre. Almost all the pictures on my website are actually thousands of pixels wide/tall in the .psd format file, some as large as 6,000 x 3,000. Once a piece of line art has been colored and finalized, I flatten all the layers down to a single layer, resize the image down to roughly 800-900 pixels tall/wide and finally save them as a .gif file. This results in a high quality, near flawless picture for presentation on the Macross Mecha Manual. I prefer to use .gifs because they are typically smaller files than .pngs and because .jpegs are notoriously awful for presenting line art. The compression of the .jpeg format always leaves these ugly artifacts all over the art. It would be a shame to go through all that trouble to make a high quality piece of colored art only to post it as an ugly .jpeg
  9. Well, that's something we could always try to fix. If I have some time I'll slap something together and you can see what you think.
  10. This is my favorite part of these threads, with all the lovable schizophrenia and salad bar of excuses. If you like the movie, you're a tasteless fanboy toady, another predictable lemming paying for trash entertainment. If you hate the movie, you're one of those snobby elitist haters or worse, a critic, who don't know anything about what the "real fans" like. Never does fault lie with the studio for actually making a lousy movie because someone else is always to blame. It's like arguing sports teams (kinda appropriate, given the movie)! Don't ever change, MW In the mean time, here's some real entertainment...
  11. Not bad! That's a pretty clever use of the art
  12. WOW! That's some very nice work, nhyone. Well done!
  13. Well, since Paramount is denying me the entertainment of a good movie, it's up to the critics to provide the entertainment by making me laugh at a bad movie. First up, Empire Magazine Not bad, but I want more Paramount can buy as many shill reviews with free toys as they like, G.I. Joe doesn't have a chance in hell of beating Team America!
  14. Well, the nails in the coffin are finally hitting down hard.... GI Joe won't screen for critics *chortle*
  15. Thanks again, Graham Wow, the variants are so few. I naturally assumed the D/J/S variants were always far fewer than the standard A model, but I never suspected the variants were so few as to approach such rarity. Some variants account for less than 1 percent of the entire production run. The UN Forces must have been really pissed off when Hikaru would lose a VF-1J
  16. All the reference pictures I have of the Macross Quarter can be found on the page in my website. Follow the link here to see them if you haven't already done so: Macross Quarter on the Macross Mecha Manual Your model is looking good so far.
  17. Nice picture. It looks very VF-1D Valkyrie-ish Thanks kresphy!
  18. 1) I wrote specifically VF-1s in response to ALL the VF-1 numbers that Gubaba posted. 2) I fail to see how the ASS-1 landing in 1999 becomes irrelevant to a discussion of 2009. 3) The VF-4 Lightining III numbers weren't pulled out of nowhere and obviously would act as a benchmark of magnitude. And wouldn't you know it, they do.... That's fantastic. Thanks Graham. Actually, I must say I am also a little surprised by the numbers as well. I always suspected the VF-1 went into production of at least a thousand or more. But 5,950 is many more than I expected. It's also strange that the VF-1S was so limited. Roy really did have his pick of the litter. I suppose that's another indication of his high standing as an ace.
  19. I sympathize, especially since you and bishopcruz had to put so much work into this. I'd be sick of it too. However, I wouldn't change anything you did, especially posting on MG about the whole debacle. In fact, I'd go so far as to say you handled the situation as well as it could ever be expected. The end result is much less important than the truth being posted. And quite honestly, sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better.
  20. That can't be it. Those were only VF-1 Valkyries stationed aboard the SDF-1 Macross. We saw more VF-1 Valkyries deployed at other stations besides the SDF-1, such as the U.N. Headquarters Guard seen in SDFM, Episode 15. If we're talking production runs over the life of the VF-1 Valkyrie line, they have got to be in the high hundreds/low thousands at least. Mass production ran from 2008 to 2015, so there must have been way more VF-1 Valkyries than what was stationed aboard the Macross. Mass production of the VF-4 Lightining III ran from 2012 to 2022 and produced 8,245 fighters.
  21. Perhaps, but it all depends upon how serious we're taking this situation. I think you've done a fantastic job exposing this whole fiasco, but in the end it was a frustrated Macross fan telling fibs. The situation itself is not a big deal, but to me the big deal lies in Shalooms authority, his abuse of trust and his likelihood to continue spreading lies through his control of MG. I don't believe this aftermath is worth getting that worked up. However, it is a good time to take stock in what's happened, what Shaloom has/has-not done and what each of us is doing about it. For my part, I'm not going to let it bother me, but I am definitely impugning MG as long as Shaloom controls it. That's my solution, your mileage may vary. But however it does, you've earned our respect eternal.
  22. Well, don't keep us in suspense. How much are we talking?
  23. Just to clarify my position, I originally stated that everything coming from MG is "tainted" by Shaloom's ownership/operation. This does not mean MG is magically all wrong in everything they do, including material pre-dating this fiasco. It means that as I stated, I'm writing off the website as a credible source of Macross information from this point forward. Everything going through or originating from MG from now on is treated as suspect. Moral of the story; Shaloom is untrustworthy and therefore his actions (as authority on MG) promote a website which is untrustworthy as a source of information. Which, as I said, is the tragedy of having someone as deceitful and willfully irresponsible as Shaloom exercising ultimate control over that community. And is pretty much the only form of protest left to the Macross community, after he unilaterally backed his critics into a corner. Harsh or not, it's the only way left to enforce some kind of discipline and responsibility upon Shaloom, who so far is ardently determined to avoid any and all responsibility for his actions.
  24. Exactly, so who cares? As far as I'm concerned I have every intention of maintaining a proportional response toward MG. I'm not interested in any active hostility, board wars, or other stupidity. I'm past caring, as I said, and simply don't have the time, especially since I've got better things to do. But Shaloom and his website will not pass unscathed in the court of public opinion, such as it is on the net. I will not support them and I will continue to criticize them at my leisure. As for the MG community, they're on their own. Part of not caring and not having the time to police Shaloom means I don't have the time to speak with each individual member of MG and ask where they stand. They suffer by association, at least from me. Like I said above, it's harsh, but it's just and fair. By criticizing Shaloom and MG, there is incentive for them to do something about it. Besides, they are free to ignore me as well. Fair trade.
  25. Amazon.jp and HMV Japan are both reputable sellers. I've order the Chronicle from both multiple times and been happy.
