But you don't have to make any sales. Release a product only on a web page and your good. Far more important is fending off anyone else infringing on the trademark.

I don't think there is a limit. You have a Trademark and want to keep it just keep paying whatever legal fee may be involved (and fend off any lawsuits) and it is yours.

So even a historical precedent is not acceptable. Then again I figured that would be the case.

Yup, yup. our difference of opinion (and despite the wall of text that is all it is) is noted. EDIT - knock, knock. The Weimar republic is Happy to know that things will change very slowly over the next decade or two...

In the real world things change and we accept it. In Star Trek, over decades, things change and it is absolutely impossible for that to happen.

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Dynaman replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm still grinding my way through "Cagaster of an insect cage" and although it has gotten better if Netflix somehow lost the rights to it before I finished watching I would not be upset. A pretty bog standard anime with people turning into man eating insects. Solid enough acting now that I have gotten past the heroine VA and a serviceable script and plot - just enough to keep watching. Yup, hardly a ringing endorsement. -
Disney+ TV Series, movies, animation,specials

I'll sign up for a month just to see Soul. Luckily there are a bunch of others to see too though. -
I've seen "seasons" of as little as 6 episodes but I forget what show that was. Basically a season is whatever a network decides to fund at one time. If you add in a pre-planned hiatus then anything goes. I still remember the olden days when the holidays meant reruns for most scripted shows till sometime in January but now that the "season" is so short it means some other show comes on.

The sqidd Recommends Reign Of Fire Movie

Dragon Slayer - incredibly good effects mixed with an incredibly mediocre movie. -
The sqidd Recommends Reign Of Fire Movie

Bored me to tears as I recall, except the story telling segment was fun stuff. You want Apaches vs Dragons? That movie is called Dragon Wars and be careful what you wish for - you might get it... -
That first one is an example of how far a studio will go to keep movie options in their control.

Star Trek: Axanar (Yesterday's Ares)
Dynaman replied to technoblue's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I have no idea what point you are trying to make. There is no valid comparison of a rerun to the absolute first airing of a new series. -
Oh hell yes it did. All of the faults of those first three seasons were on the shoulders of Gene and his dictates of what the Federation was like.

That is exactly the attitude that is stifling Trek. The first three seasons of TNG force fed the "Federation is utopia" meme on is and it was easily the worst Trek ever.

Star Trek: Axanar (Yesterday's Ares)
Dynaman replied to technoblue's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Yes - all the other shows were premiers for a new weekly series. Best comparison for this is a rerun. -

Once again - that is NOT an apples to apples comparison. -
I had fun watching it. I forgot it pretty much as soon as the final episode ran. That is a positive not a negative, just not a ringing endorsement. Tilly is annoying but nowhere near as bad as Wesley or Tasha or Worf (before they figured out how to write for his character after 4 or 5 seasons)

Part of that is anyone who wanted to see it already has. It is not in any way a debut, even half of the first episode had already been on broadcast TV. Still a lousy number but not in the same league if it had not been shown in another medium already.

For me ST hit the nadir with Voyager and Nemesis. The one took the preachy factor of ST and turned it up to 11 (showing my eighties teenage roots) and the other tried and failed miserably to turn NextGen to an action movie series. The first 2.5 seasons of Next Gen was just as bad but finally figured out TOS was twenty years prior and things had changed. The problem for ST today is that the fans want it to be the sixties still but it is now 2020 and we should not need to hide the moral story behind the alien of the week. On the other hand ST action movies can't compete with Super Heroes that bend physics to say nothing of reality.

I prefer the miniseries Dune to that dreadful movie as well. It is a real pity it did not have a higher budget.
