Star Wars Rogue Squadron, in theaters TBA
Dynaman replied to no3Ljm's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I was going to say don't use logic it would only ruin things but then I remembered it was ruined from the get go. That whole chase bit was brainless beyond belief. Now that bit out of the way, Disney has done very well with The Mandalorian and by bring Filoni's works in. So I have hope.- 115 replies

Not sure if it goes here with Movies and Streaming being a mishmash this year but I just watched Soul and was glad to have seen it. It was a change of pace for Pixar, yeah it had a talking animal and a character that was kid (like) but it was not a movie I think kids would want to see. Pixar does not generally make shallow movies (Cars 2, cough cough) but this was more philosophical then they usually do. Streaming is probably where it would do best, I have feeling it would have been a disappointment as a normal movie release, which would be a shame.

I don't think so - my sons hate the sequels and did not even bother to watch the last one. I found them forgettable but for the most part (except the second one) a fun enough time to watch once. There is nothing that can save them but like the Holiday Special (from the seventies) there may be bits in those movies that can be told in better stories. As for the First Order, yup, Instead of Tarkin we got Hux, instead of Vader we got (what was Ben's bad boy name again? - Like I said "forgettable"), and instead of the Emporer we got Snoke (till even the directors figured out was a pale imitation and brought the emperor back).- 115 replies

On my list as soon as I'm done watching Mandalorian. Looks like a good film.

Don't forget the droid Chewi roared at and scared away - it needs a series too.

I would love to see that redone. It is talked about off and on and on and off. The basic design of the palomino and Cygnus can stay just as they are. Maxamillian too. VINCent would need a bit of a redesign so that it doesn't look like metal paint on wood though. With some world building thrown into the remake they could start a whole new series.

With the new Tron ride in DW you would think they would try one more time with Tron.

All things NASA & SpaceX. Past, Present & Future.

> But without it, we wouldn't have had the vast array of satellites, both commercial and government, in orbit, nor the ISS, which relied entirely on the Orbiter to get the modules into space Your mistaking the rout chosen with it being the only way of doing what was needed. We had a hammer so everything looked like a nail. If we had a screwdriver instead everything would have been screws. The shuttle was a MASSIVE technological accomplishment - it was also a waste of the talent that developed it except perhaps in the realm of pure research where lessons learned (nothing better to learn than doing things the wrong way) are always important. -

Too many to list. The basic idea of making a spaceship look like an airplane being core among them. Reusable is great in theory but it turned out to be anything but. Engineering is good thing to bring up, the amount of engineering required to get the shuttle into space and back down was never worth it and never paid off. We would have been better enhancing basic designs that already existed - the proof of that shows up in the latest spaceship designs being based off of the old capsule on top of a rocket design. -

The Shuttle was a terrible design that never lived up to what it was designed to do. There is a need for a "space truck" and general utility space vehicle but it is not going to look anything like a plane any time soon. -

Not all bad - at least in the sequel era there is nothing to mess up.- 115 replies

Depending on the definition of "hit" most of them will not. With luck most of them will be decent shows but a hit in TV (any TV) is rare. The budgets for these are not going to be cheap either. This is the best way (IMHO) or expanding the SW universe though - less risk than doing it through big budget movies (we will see about the Rogue Squadron budget but a planned direct to streaming show will probably not have a screen release budget) and whatever works can get a film treatment.

The theater most likely lost money that day. Even with the inflated rates for food and assuming the manager is an owner paying the employee and the movie license fee more then made up for the revenue you provided. Not to mention heating or AC, electricity, etc... EDIT - Disney had a great little line in the financials when the parks first reopened. They said it was "revenue positive" and some thought that meant the parks were making money. Nobody knows for sure (but the Bobs and the accountants) but it most likely meant Disney was losing less money with the parks being open then it was losing with them being closed. Which might be the case for a theater that is open but not making a profit too.

THAT might be the saving grace of entertainment out of the home. Spending all day at home working is the best advertisement for getting the heck out of the home to relax (sometimes). Though in case of my wife and I it is going out to eat (not done that since March now) though for others it will be going out to a movie.
-
I'm not a big movie guy - much rather watch most of them at home. It is still up in the air what will happen, the movie theater, video rental(*), purchase revenue model is not one movie makers are going to give up willingly. The only thing to be seen is if the pandemic has changed viewing habits for enough people to decide that going to the theater is optional. (*) - Physical or electronic.

My wife and I just started watching "The Queen's Gambit". First two episodes are excellent and as such shows are at their best it is about much more than chess.

Thank you for the memories. Rest in Peace.

They still never killed off (permanently) what amounted to the main caste - Sansa, Aria, the younger brother, and Snow.
-
Perfect for a TV show. Private newbie and LT doofus can get bumped off each week while the main cast goes happily on. Aliens level carnage would be a problem for a TV show.
