    No, I meant the character of Maverick in the movie. Several lines point out that the only reason Maverick was still in the Navy was because Iceman kept going to bat for him. Once he died, Maverick was immediately shat canned,

    It is very entertaining, and poignant. I last saw the first movie thirty years ago, so as Maverick was having his flashbacks I was there right along with him, hazily remembering those scenes. I also like that that was where he 'peaked.' The last three decades he'd been riding Iceman's coattails.

    That is so awesomely put, I love it!🤣 We could view Picard as an all-around Trouble-Shooter, not content with one adversary, but taking everyone's!

    Agreed, the Borg got Worfed. Since they could not be allowed to win they had to be 'lessened,' but we have to consider that 'in universe,' before Q forced the introduction, the Federation had no knowledge of the Borg including what they're weaknesses were. But after Wolf 359, they are on a steep learning curve and you start to get to know your enemy, and so does the audience. They lose the mystique and unknown dread. And as we have seen throughout Star Trek in its many incarnations, the Federation is nothing if not fiendish at quickly finding weaknesses and advancing tech to overcome what was before an insurmountable foe. Like the Aliens compared to Alien, the mystery has to be stripped away a bit, otherwise the good guys win not because they were smart and inventive, but because they had plot armor. But back to the original point, personally, I've never had a problem with a bit of alien-threat poaching among the shows. They are all in the same universe after all and to have villainous races being specific to each show comes off as unrealistic. To me, anyway.

    @Rock Would love to have a statue of Mirage in a slightly larger scale, like 1/8. And the puppy is just reminding you that modeling should be all fun and games!😉

    A good show for Picard would have been to combine him with the purposed Academy series, put him in a mentor/professor role on a training ship and then let the 'fun' happen. But for what we got, season 3 was the most ST and I would rather just ignore the first two seasons. For Disco, season 2 was the only good one, and a lot of that had to do with Mount's Pike. I liked the story line of the AI and them having to go into the future to save the present, but then season 3 just did not follow through on the promise of it, The Emerald Chain was just stupid and the reason for the Burn was just effin stupid. If I watch season 4 it's going to be because I am bored. As for the Borg, I don't think of them as exclusive to any one show, nor for any of the adversaries for that matter. That's like saying only Kirk can face-off against the Klingons as he was the first to tangle with them. As for them coming off as neutered, I don't think it's that their threat was lessened, but only that we are familiar with them now. There can be only one Best of Both Worlds.

    But making the sense to use them would have made it a lot better. To me, that would be like not using the F-14 in the original movie despite it being the most high-tech/capable plane at the time. Now I have no problem with them using the FA-18, I love that plane and it is still the backbone of the fleet, but they missed an opportunity to 'introduce' the F-35 to the viewer. They didn't even have to show them at first, but just mention them in planning even vaguely. Then when Hangman comes in at the end with the rescue, he's leading a flight of F-35s to go after any Felon's standing between Mav/Rooster and safety. Of course, all this brings in the fact that they really could have used more Navy involvement, both in deciding what kind of mission to use as a template and for more realistic cockpit situations.

    Most everything else about this movie was great - except for the Star Wars bit. And the lack of F-35 past 10 seconds in.

    One of the best things about it is how real the tech appears. Except for the drive system, I could imagine us building those ships either right now or just a few decades on. I would love to see a series with the breath of Star Trek but using more science based tech rather than overly fictionized.

    Opening is still two months away, so plenty of time for the ads to gear up.

    The problem with that shows there was no trust between the seats. It's possible the pilot would have called for ejection in another few moments, or he could have steered it to a course over the water, or possibly it was recoverable. Investigation is not done yet to know, but to have the back seater just decide to pop out when something goes wrong is its own recipe for trouble. As was stated, the pilot was working the problem and was surprised by the ejection, with which the Gs involved could have caused him even more harm than was already suffered. But the main point is, the pilot was the one in command of the plane it was his decision to make. If the observer was not going to trust him with that decision, then he should never have been in that plane. I would not trust him to sit behind me. And listening to pilots discussing the event, I hereby correct my above statement, as it was hogwash. They were not just approaching minimum ejection, they were at it, with a plane that even if the engine would restart would still take to ten to twenty seconds to get back to making thrust again. This armchair pilot should remember not to talk with my mouth full of my foot!

    So the guy in that back seat, and I don't care about his experience and such, decides to take control out of the hands of the pilot... Yes, who knows if this was recoverable, the investigation is not done yet, but even it it wasn't I'm assuming the pilot would have/may have had an alternate land/crash site, rather than being just kicked right out of his own airplane. I'd say that pilot observer is gonna have a lot of explaining to do!
