  1. STP, being set outside the Federation was not going to show all that wholesome goodness, and Picard would (by being Picard) be the focus of that idealism in the gritty, greater universe. And it is a thin veneer that someone can hold on to, as long as they are living in that paradise. It affords them (the citizens of the Federation) the comfort of living towards those higher ideals, whereas those who do not are focused more on the immediate concern of living and surviving day to day. Being set outside the Federation, that idealism was going to be left behind, again except for Picard as the standard bearer for it. And so again, the show was going to absent of that wholesomeness and thus grittier because of it. And yes, Riker and the entire (apparently) Starfleet showing up just in time, and at odd with the words of the head of the entire fleet, was a blatant and forced happy ending.
  2. Raising the bar!
  3. I think the 'gritty'ness of the Star Trek universe seen in STP, outside of Starfleet (and thus off of Earth or Vulcan etc), was always going to be lacking in the wholesome, advanced attitude we've seen in near all Star Trek shows. Whether it's seen through the lens of DS9, or Data with the Collector, Harry Mudd and others, that advanced attitude has always been a thin veneer. A luxury allowed when one has the means, such as serving in Starfleet or being a citizen of one of the primary worlds of the Federation. One of the elite. So stepping away from Starfleet and heading out into the greater civilian universe, we were always going to be leaving that behind. At least partly. That meant that the 'advanced culture' was then going to be seen through one person rather than a whole crew serving on the same ship, with that being Picard. He is the lens though which we see that greater attitude that Star Trek has always shown. Personally, I'm alright with Starfleet and the Federation 'losing it's way.' In past movies and series, they've been hit hard and repeatedly, and esp with the mass attack on Mars, pretty close to home. It would be unreal for any civilization to not trudge through the lows every now and then, before starting to find their way back, such as Riker and the fleet showing up at the end to start doing what was right.
  4. Well, all they'd have to do is continue that one scene on Mars without the attack happening. A whole sixty minutes of it!
  5. You know, I wouldn't mind if at this point they made it Star Trek Riker.
  6. It might be useful to dance a dremel off the edges of the exposed parts.
  7. I'm so glad I'm oblivious to all the apparent woke 'subtext' everyone else is seeing. But then every show we see is in some way a mirror of our current climate, so pulling one show out to bash around because of it is strange. Writing? Sure. Turning Picard into a golem? Alright. Having a fleet of copy/paste ships facing another fleet of copy/paste ship? Yes. Having the Federation again be the savoir of an old enemy who, you guessed it, once again lost their homeworld but couldn't handle it themselves for some reason... There are far more reason to complain about than 'wokeness.'
  8. Nice! Some great new life for that old model! Much better than collecting dust in an old box. One question(suggestion), is to chew up the edges of those vertical frames? They look too neat compared to the rest of the damage. Loving the recycling work!
  9. The most recent they have in the works is Strange New Worlds. It'll continue the story of Pike, Spock and No1. Can't wait to see that one!
  10. Bangs. She used to have bangs, didn't she..?
  11. I think I recall some discussion speculating that the self destruct was damaged from all the fighting in WoK, and by Scotty hot-wiring the whole ship for automation. Although, thinking about it, if you want to keep the ship from falling into enemy hands, destroying the bridge, and all its command hardware, is probably essential. In the end though, it was all about the visuals, such as the name and registry being destroyed before that first blast.
  12. The other ships in the RC pond had better watch out!
  13. Actually, the first big explosion comes from the bridge area, so you could just put a crater there.
  14. Yeah, I'd say that's a nice off white and weather!
  15. In any Wayne's World comparison, I am Garth... The only time Breetia will be envious... Also have that Zentran kit and was really disappointed in it. If the resin model of it wasn't so 'spensive I'd probably pop on it. On the other hand, here's a dio idea for the kit I have! Fantastic result! Now hit those Tomcats! (not really hit, you understand. gently. gently.)
  16. The Alien franchise has been beleaguered for a while, and retconning from what was started in the first movie in the way that Prometheus and Covenant went didn't help, even if it was done by Ridley. This being an entirely different story, I'd say go into it with fresh eyes. Ridley Scott has a great reputation and the story looks good. In fact, it reminds a bit of the Netflix movie, 'Mother,' only carried a little further.
  17. I started filling the gap in the hull in order to stretch it. Some plastic was glued inside as spacers and corrugated styrene, cut to a 14 inch is being bent around the curve. Once that's done, I'll start filling in the gaps with styrene. It'll look messy as all get out at first, but that's always the way before it starts looking better! Model on!
  18. Probably the best idea to have for that old build, and really something to have fun with. And there is something to be said about recapturing that grade 8 feeling again.
  19. Yes. Though in 2202 it is called the Dreadnought class. Yup! Whew! At first I thought you decided to put your recent Refit build out of your misery! Nice though! Get those girls some new life! You could go to Federation Models and buy new nacelles and after market parts to spruce them up.
  20. Do what I do, ignore any actor/actress when they are not in character, and you're (happily) wondering what everyone's problem is.
  21. Well, after a couple years, my UNCF Nautilus is back on the table. Had to do a little repair work as the stretch I was going to put into the bow that I've since decided not to do, but that part's finally all together again. A little clean up to do, but then I can do the stern stretch, fill out the lower scoop and put a landing deck on the back of the superstructure.
  22. Well, locked off from her powers so much that she didn't even know they existed, and then 'tutored' by a psycho lover who wanted to turn her into a weapon, and when she finally did run back to her family for help, she was locked away in the basement. When we consider that it all happened in the span of a few days, that's a lot of trauma to try and deal with all on her own. I'm not surprised she went into a rant, though she did it with powers that could destroy the world... I like her. She's my favorite character. I also think she's completed her 'redemption' arc. She needs to grow into her powers a little more certainly, but on the relationship side she's experienced both the bad and the good, and came away from it better. Plus, she appears to be fully seated back into the family, so I feel a retreading of her past, in any major depth other than as a side note, would be a waste. And yes, the Handler was deliciously wicked!
  23. Just finished this today, and I had fun all the way through. I might be in the minority, but the first half didn't feel slow at all! Like season one, the story lines and the actors playing the parts are just so engaging, that going off on little side trips down memory lane are fun rather than dragging. As for Vanya... Now I must wait for Season three...
