  2. Macross Chronicle's History Sheet about the fall of the ASS-1 mentions, in passing, that the ship decelerated far more than should be possible after entering that atmosphere, which it presents as thought to have been an intentional braking maneuver. The ship was going over 10km/s when it entered the atmosphere and by the time it crashed it had slowed to only about 1km/s. Of course, something so massive hitting at "only" 1 kilometer per second still made a hell of a dent. Macross Chronicle asserts that the impact force was equivalent to a 670 megaton explosion, creating a crater 3km in diameter, with ejecta from the impact reaching altitudes over 10km and devastating an area of 100 square kilometers with the shockwave. It also notes that the impact reduced the size of the island somewhat to 16.9 square kilometers. (One of the more unusual points Macross Chronicle introduces is that the island was inhabited. A 16-man US military communications and satellite monitoring output on the island understandably did not survive the impact.) Yeah, a 670 megaton impact is likely to shake the Earth a bit different to a usual bay area earthquake. A bit, yeah... perhaps somewhat justified in the sense that the Earth Unification Government basically threw the entire global tech industry and planetary GDP at the problem for ten years, heedless of the economic consequences, and even then ended up taking a bunch of shortcuts by reverse-engineering the materials and applying that know-how to existing theoretical and practical tech instead of trying to perfectly reproduce the alien technology. (It may also have helped somewhat that what fell out of the sky was the Protoculture's lowest-bidder, ruggedized, keep-it-simple-stupid military hardware and not a more refined or advanced ship they might've used themselves. Figuring out how Gravity and Inertia Control works was basically the key to a lot of the rest too, so once they had that understanding the rest probably fell into place a lot faster.)
  3. Wow that is looking amazing!
  4. Hey thanks so much! That means a lot to me. All of those builds are from the past year and a half. That’s when I started building models. Seriously. I hope to build less models this year and make the output more dialed in. I hit the ground running when I started building and don’t want burnout.
  5. Man i dont even like leaving my house. IF I somehow made it to the Australian Grand Cannon wreck and rode our the bombardment, I'd have probably just gone home again. That said my wife is a knowledge manager and pretty smart, I could see her being recruited to right manuals or something.
  6. Both are fun, just very different. Plus is basically the next in line, 2 is a fun kind of side story. 2 looks the same but feels different; plus feels the same but looks different. neither choice is bad.
  7. I had also assumed it did at least one circuit, because it hits the island and just stops, even though it destroys a lot of it. I would think if it came down steep and just slammed into it the island would be obliterated, and Earth wouldn't have been much use for awhile afterwards. As for Shin; He also says he woke up because the Earth shook in a way it wasn't supposed too, which either mean it didn't feel like an Earthquake (Which would potentially support your San Francisco theory) or he lives somewhere that doesn't have Quakes and he was unfamiliar with the Earth shaking at all. But who knows, really? Unrelated comment to that; So as I was reading the timeline, and when u think about it the development cycle after the Macross crashes is kind of insane. I know they gathered OT from the wreck, but it must have either also had instructions on how to USE some of it, or its RIDICULOUSLY easy to understand. I mean its less than 10 years before they have the Clean Nuclear reactors, the Hyber-carbon alloys, the gyros to allow for bipedal mechs, the mechanics for the transformations, the basic understanding (VERY basic it turns out) of the fold system, artificial gravity tech, better/faster engines (Since they have at least decent enough speeds for multiple inter-solar system craft, and the Macross herself makes it back to Earth from Pluto in 2 years) etc etc. Like Overtechnology is the Ikea furniture of technology it seems.
  8. GREAT builds guys! Sorry I haven't been on the boards more. Not much time to get on the internet for "fun", but I have been working behind the scenes a little. To give you an idea, I compeleted ONE whole model in 2025! The Bandai 1/100 MG Zeta Ver Ka - out of the box. Sad. But lots of components for other builds. I'm at least trying for two builds to go to show early this year. @Papa Rat OK, you have to convince me that you are NOT a Five Stars fan boy (even if you got the collection box).😁 More importantly, they all look GREAT! I think you were just sand bagging us with that "I haven't modeled in a long time" comment.😉 @505thAirborne You sir have your work cut out for you (see what I did there)😁 But I know you can do it! @tekering I think you need to see if Toho has any Godzilla movies they are planning on filming. Then you can profit off of it. If not, you have a new storage shed for the back yard😁 @derex3592 Your paint looks great! You are right. The colors change. For that reason, you may want to try some colored panels and shading. It builds depth. Our "Best Of" model two years ago was a also a battleship, 1/350th with insane detail. He also made extensive use of shading to build depth. Kinda like gaming pieces building depth and shade. I hope we all have a HAPPY NEW YEAR fellow styrene heads! - MT
  9. Today
  10. M3 Macbook Air. FYI, CES is next week (Jan 6-9). I'm not expecting too many big announcements but this year's monitors are getting their press releases ahead of the show. Since components will see price increases this year, this may be a good year to upgrade monitors.
  11. I really need to reconsider how I prepurchase kits. I may try elsewhere if shipping is more affordable and just focus on cleaning out my PW and not use it anymore. 🤔
  12. There's No Freaking Way I'll be Your Lover! Unless... Episode 13-17 came out today. I do not know why I like this show, But it is enjoyable.
  13. I've got 87 days before they start charging me for storage on several medium items. So I'm on a mission to clear out. (And maybe slow down on my model problem ) Considering it took about a month for my first shipment to even post, i feel like i got the slow boat shipping at the dhl price..
  14. Mike, I know you have a g14, but what laptops do you guys use for non gaming tasks? I have a spare low spec'd lappy for basic tasks and work (a recent pick up of an open box sub $400 yoga 2in1 14 oled). I'm debating about returning it and getting a better work laptop.
  15. Yes, fingers crossed.
  16. Red and black masked and painted! 100%! Now...I have had 2ish years to figure out the shade of gray for the rest of the ship.....and I'm still unsure....😂 Nothing looks right to my eye yet. Going off the new restored high resolution pics off the Battleship Texas Foundation FB page and YouTube videos, it really depends on the sunlight of any given day as to the blue-gray shade this thing appears to be.. 🤔 I know what the "official colors" are but on a 1/350 scale ship it's way to dark. This may be a mix situation and then trial and error more than anything...
  17. I have quite a bit in my PW at the moment, but I think I may stick it out till April when the PW hold date expires. Hopefully, we may see a change in tariffs by then. *crosses fingers* MB
  18. You're a true gentleman Ted Same. I wanted to ship more but it was stupid expensive. So i also went with the small packet option..
  19. Not specifically, no. South Ataria is a fictional island in the Ogasawara islands (the Bonin islands to westerners) south of Japan. The coordinates we're given put it about 90km south and slightly to the west of Iwo Jima and 54km to the west of South Iwo Jima. About 1,300km almost due south of Tokyo. It's not sourced on the Wiki because the Wiki got it from Egan's old site, but remarks similar to that are in a couple older artbooks. The course described there suggests the Alien Starship 1 was traveling northwest at a high rate of speed and must have completed almost an entire orbit before crashing given that it ends up east of where it entered the atmosphere. (Considering the course, it's likely New Zealand, New South Wales, Queensland, the Solomons, and New Guinea didn't have a great time either.) Macross Chronicle also supports the idea that the ship was moving generally northwest on reentry and crashed into South Ataria that way. Shin is a second-generation Japanese-American, so presumably he was living somewhere in the US when the ASS-1 came down. Practically all of the US cities and towns with large Japanese-American populations are in Hawaii or on the west coast, so in all likelihood Shin hails from either Hawaii, California, or Washington. (There's an outside chance he's from New Jersey, Michigan, New York, or Ohio, all of which are home to small but significant Japanese-American communities, but given Shin's not f***ing melting in the South Pacific weather on Mayan it seems unlikely he's a New Englander or a Midwesterner. I'll forego the almost obligatory joke about Ohio.) Kawamori seems to really like San Francisco, given how much time was taken recreating parts of it in Macross Frontier, so I'm guessing Shin's family are probably from the bay area.
  20. Think of the rental fee for that much space!! In Japan!! Are there any architectural school that might like having that?
  21. JFS006 Set (Anne Lewis + Robocop)
  22. 🎉Tthat’s super generous. I broke down and had a big chunk of my PW from HLJ shipped. This is what I had to pay. 😳 And that’s for the “Small Pack” cheap option.
