    It's kind of supposed to be extremely cramped. The head, shoulders, and left arm of the pilot can be seen in the image on the right, and the mecha's view screen is ridiculously close to the face shield on the pilot's helmet! As some of the captions are cut off, I dusted off my copy of the Macross movie Gold Book to find out what those bits are: Right image, lower right: 肩や胸にも肉質パイプがからんでいます。(Fleshy pipes also entwine around the shoulders and chest.) Bottom: 胸から下は肉質パイプクッションに完全にうずもれています。(From the chest down, the pilot is completely covered by a fleshy pipe cushion.) The description (in the Gold Book) provides a bit more context to those "fleshy pipes" (= the squiggly bits): 倍力機の内部は半生体組織となっており、兵員の肉体と生体コネクターによって直接的に接合される。(The interior of the servos consists of semi-biological tissue, and is directly connected to the soldier's body via biological connectors.) 神経系による直接制御は補助的なシステムとされ、過剰フィードバックによる兵員と倍力機の神経的損傷を防ぐ設計となっている。(Direct neural control is considered to be an auxiliary system, designed to prevent neurological damage to both soldier and the servos due to excessive feedback.) There's a lot to unpack in that description... 😮

    I skip those scenes too. Still haven't opened my SHF Zenitsu, lol, cuz I'm not sure if I like the character enough... but after watching the first movie and his totally serious and badass arc, I can somewhat forgive his buffoonery. Hope you keep watching despite the humor fails...

    Tojima Wants to be a Kamen Rider, definitely gets my vote for best anime series of 2025, Super funny, even if you are not into Kamen Rider . I've never actually watched an episode of any Kamen Rider series, but I'm loving this anime.😅 To be honest I'm kinda burned out on all the Isekai anime, there's just too much of it.

    I don't think it's necessarily bad, but it's definitely very Japanese in its sensibilities and relies a lot on silliness and acknowledging absurdity. I would not advise holding your breath for that one. Zenitsu develops rather slowly as a character, since part of his role was to be comic relief and a heroic coward who has the reasonable man's reaction to the insane supernatural BS going on at any given moment. There are reasons he's this way, but they don't really come up properly until the Hashira training arc (S4) and Infinity Castle movie(s) near the end of the story. Of course, he gets his in the form of being full-on Crouching Moron Hidden Badass. He may be a one trick pony, but he is very good at that one trick.

    They finally fixed the timing lag of the subtitles on Macross Plus OVA that I initially noticed at launch for U.S. Hulu and Disney plus since HULU inserted additional fade outs for commercial breaks that threw off the subtitles. Happy to finally can enjoy Macross Plus again.

    The YF-19/VF-19's wing folds backwards for storage, not up. The wing in this shot is no longer physically connected to the aircraft. That, combined with the fact that the leading edge slats are damaged and one section is straight-up missing, along with visible damage along the entire length of the wing, implies that this wing did not go gently... it hit something and was likely broken off. To be fair, that was hardly a problem unique to Isamu. The YF-19 had six prior test pilots before Isamu was assigned to Project Super Nova. Four of Isamu's six predecessors were hospitalized with injuries they'd sustained during testing and the other two died from injuries sustained in accidents during testing. The YF-19's performance was pushing the limit of what the human body could withstand in terms of g-forces thanks to its exceptional acceleration and maneuverability, and the previous-gen ANGIRAS airframe control AI used in the first two prototypes was absolutely not up to the job and as a result the prototype had extremely unforgiving handling. (That Isamu was able to not only handle the YF-19 in testing but draw out its full potential and even enjoy the experience is a testament to what an absolute goddamn MONSTER he is in the cockpit.)

    I was looking at the line art again and I can't figure out how a pilot is supposed to fit in there. I know, anime magic... But it seems extremely cramped in there! Also, what are all those squiggly bits surrounding the pilot?

    Yeah, if you factor in the Legioss and Tread combining, then 1/48 scale seems to be the logical size for these. I doubt that Pose+ will produce a matching Tread unless they make a killing with the Legioss or if it's crowdfunded.

    The humor isn't landing for me. I initially thought it's just because I'm old, but after some more consideration, I think the show is just bad at it. The timing is weak, the dialogue choice is poor... It may have worked better for a younger and/or more Japanese audience, but I'm tuning out those sections. Zenitsu is annoying as duuuuuuuck. I'm eagerly awaiting the story getting past this early phase so he can become tolerable.

    I wouldn’t say that the Riobot Legioss is too small. If you're looking for a massive shelf presence, then yeah it can seem small and the Pose+ is what you'll want. But ever since going in on the HMRs, I've found myself picking up and playing with those more, and just leaving the 1/60s on display. So, yeah, I get the playability factor and I might just give the Toyrise a chance whenever they get around to making the OG versions.

    @Urashiman those both came out great! @Big s I agree. It’s very regal indeed. In the Manga the Vaiola is not destroyed during the confrontation with the Terror Mirage, but rather captured since it was one of a kind and viewed as important to save intact.
