Super Macross Mecha Fun Time Discussion Thread!
guyxxed replied to Valkyrie Driver's topic in Movies and TV Series
I appreciate that they've thought even this much about it, and if they explore the implications even a little bit, like the inclusion of Johnson's troubles, then that also shows that the writers see it as more than just a handwave, which is nice. That detail puts Klan's repeated use of micloning throughout Frontier into a bit of a different light, especially given her "clumsy genes" issue. I'm sure the deformity issues weren't thought out too much at that stage, but hindsight now makes it look reckless. I guess we can chalk it up to youth and love drivng risky behavior, and maybe also gives a backhanded explanation for her size (being almost as big as commander types in adult form). Maybe that's a side effect of her repeated use and eventually she'll be as tall as Boldoza someday? 😉 -
Grabbed the Jaws set at a local shop on trade, only paid $60 out of pocket. Really, really cool set, agreed with most reviews though, the front of the ship is a headache, and overall, not nearly as stable as I would've hoped/expected. The rest of the build is great though, I'm 3 for 3 on Spielberg Lego sets, just need them to announce that long rumored ET set and I'm good...

Marvel Studios Thunderbolts - May 2, 2025
Tking22 replied to sh9000's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I saw it Saturday and really enjoyed it, I've also watched literally everything MCU up to this point so I was ready for more US Agent, Yelena, Ghost, and Red Guardian. A solid film overall, and some real, actual meat to the credits scenes, I feel that hasn't been a thing for a while because Disney/Marvel had to redo their entire Kang thing, so I imagine for years now the post credits scenes we were supposed to have been getting were all scrapped in favor of what we got, a whole lot of nothing, until now.- 46 replies

Pics of the right foot on mine are in the spoiler: That's horribly loose, like flapping in the wind.

Reinforcement unit arrived today! Quite nice in dark green, seems that the scope turret is actually a lighter silver colour! Now looking forward too the Bloodsucker unit July-August.... Then hope they release a Brutishdog before years end! 🤗

The Transformers Thread (licensed) Next
M'Kyuun replied to mikeszekely's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Well, it would really be on Takara's shoulders as they're the ones who actually design these toys with essentially a few aesthetic suggestions from the Hasbro designers. I'm convinced Hasbro couldn't design a transforming toy on their own if they had to which is why their partnership with Takara is so imperative to the continuance and success of the line. That said, the Hasbro designers do get to handle early prototypes during development affording them ample opportunities to spot weaknesses and potential breakage points by consumers. To that end, they're not blameless, but Takara, who have 40+ years of experience designing these things, should also be more mindful of such things when designing these toys.- 17113 replies

I'm not sure the legs can even be disassembled unless you want to break the figure. I'm looking for a solution to that myself, with no luck. As for the loose ratchet, all I can think of in this situation would be Kiki joint fluid. Another solution would be scour the web for cheap defective YF-21's (there must be more than a couple on sale by now) and salvage the legs to attach via Delimiter mode.
-
By the sound I can assume the teeth of the ratchet are very small maybe for having a good range of positions. Replacing the spring for a stronger one could be a solution.
-
This blows. The loose ball joints on previous DX'es were bad enough, never thought ratchet joints will have the same issue..
-
I filmed a video of just how loose my YF-21's knees have gotten. https://youtu.be/wGxk-op1rLA Seriously, of all its faults, this is the most egregious in my book...

Nice to see a lot of positive comments on the film here... Unlike most of the recent MCU output, which is either championed (Deadpool & Wolverine, GOTG3) or disparaged (The Marvels, Captain America 4), Thunderbolts* seems to be garnering both praise and criticism in equal measure. The response has been surprisingly polarizing (on social media, at least). 🤔- 46 replies

STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2

How much are you willing to spend? 😅 If you want to go all-out, this is the gold standard: Of course, if you're looking for something cheaper (and more readily available): https://www.bigbadtoystore.com/product/variationdetails/204420 There are numerous books that cover the same toy line -- many of which feature a much larger array of vintage Star Wars collectibles besides -- and the secondary market is filled with 'em, some going back to the early '90s. However, if it's a present, you're probably gonna restrict yourself to what's currently available new... 🤔 -
STAR WARS Merchandise Episode - 2
Scyla replied to Black Valkyrie's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Hello, I have quick question: I’m looking for a coffee table book of the Kenner 3.75 Star Wars toy line. It is a birthday present for a friend who had a lot of these toys in the 80s but lost most of them. They are also not in the toy collecting fandom. It should contain nice pictures of the figures, vehicles and play sets and maybe some write up on the history of the line. Is something like this available out there? Any input is appreciated. Thanks! -

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
M'Kyuun replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Started watching GQuuuuuux, a rather nonsensical appellation (yeah, I realize it's a placeholder, but certainly they could've come up with something better) and after four episodes I find it a bit lackluster thus far relative to other Gundam entries. While many entries in the franchise are a bit contrived to ensure the featured pilot finds their way into the cockpit of a Gundam, this one stands out as particularly ham-handed as well as her ability to unlock its other abilities where the intended pilot, a Newtype no less, failed. Thus far, and it's still very early into the series, there hasn't been much character development with more time allotted to setting up the alternate UC timeline and the clan-fighting subplot. -
Just watched it. Solid flick. Thank goodness they didn’t go with the standard MCU trope of villain with similar super power as the hero. Nice message about And

Someone else on another forum also just mentioned their YF-21 having a stubbed left foot. I can safely conclude that this is indeed probably another widespread defect. As if this figure didn't already have enough. 🤦♂️

What Current Anime Are You Watching Version v4.0
Seto Kaiba replied to wolfx's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Caught the latest episodes of The Gorilla God's Go-To Girl, Witch Watch, I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years, Can a Boy-Girl Friendship Survive, The Brilliant Healer's New Life, and The Too Perfect Saint. This season is painfully light on talent. No real standouts so far, just a lot of serviceable but unremarkable middle-of-the-road formula shows. The only series I'm really waiting for every week is The Apothecary Diaries. There are a few real stinkers, though. Classic Stars is so incoherent I still don't know what it's even about five episodes on. Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is exactly as poorly thought out as its literal placeholder title implies. Yandere Dark Elf marketed itself like a romcom but it's basically softcore porn. Kinda disappointed... but my watch group is getting a lot of mileage out of The Apothecary Diaries and our rewatch of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure in celebration of the announcement of Steel Ball Run. I might try to pick up one or two more simulcast titles to see if I'm missing anything good. Maybe The Beginning After The End, Kowloon Generic Romance, or Shoshimin. -

Finished Apothecary Diaries on Netflix. Fun show. My wife and I enjoyed Maomao's detective work. While the show benefits from modern knowledge of science and medicine as seen and understood through Maomao's character, not to mention allowances for the amount of freedom she's given to express her thoughts given the time period, we found it an enjoyable show for the main character's stoicism and intellect paired with Jinshi's charm and cunning. Too, the various mysterious elements, both regarding the main characters and their backgrounds as well as those presented in the story essentially for Maomao to solve (since, other than her adopted father as well as her biological one, she appears to be the smartest person in the room) offer plenty of opportunities for couch conjecture, in which we enjoy indulging as the story unfolds. Anyway, while the first season had a pretty satisfying conclusion, not all questions were answered, and we look forward to the second season. -
I think the only thing that would stop them from doing just that is purely Bandai's unquenchable fetish for doing things that don't make any sense. I'm not sure which I prefer at this point though, since neither release type seems to be really harder or easier to acquire than the other.

I'll bet any of these not Basara are going to be TWE only.
