    I think Chromebooks and the cheap Windows laptops just got serious competition with this release. Schools looking at un-tethering their students from Google could probably do it with the Neo. College students who only need the bare essential laptop could also use this one (let's face it, kids these days will use the phone more than anything). You are not gaming on the Mac. Period. But parents wanting to limit their kids to school work, videos, web. This is that laptop. And you are not the target demographic for this device. Dell consumer or enterprise (i.e. servers)? And Dell and Lenovo sent out notices that prices would be increasing in March. I see the Air (M4 or M5) as the "traveling-work-laptop" now. It's lightweight and can do professional workloads for brief periods. The Neo feels like the M1 Air replacement. The "Couch computer" would be a good take on the MB Neo. After using my M3 Air (and an Intel-based Air before that), the Air feels like the best everyday-worker's laptop. I've had family say they would upgrade to the Neo because the use-case matches exactly what they want. If you are planning on going iPhone, the iPhone 17 (no Pro, no Air) is the best bang-for-buck. Unless you need more lens for those perfect shots, the Pro is overkill. The Air's only selling point is the thin-ness. The new 17e is an upgrade to the children's or older parents' phone. It works and it's cheap, but there's better options.

    If you are planning on waiting the RAMpocolypse out, buying in-store and upgrading as things improve might be the way to go. If you want everything there and not have to worry about upgrades for a while, buying direct from the SI would probably be the better route.

    So what’s the reasoning? Are you looking for something to buy now, upgrade later or to have a system that provides a lasting out-of-box experience that you don’t need to worry about for a while?

    I think it was an either one-or-the-other situation with those boards. You can't mix the 2 RAM types. It was also only a feature of 13th & 14th gen Intel and that's DOA. Intel is already on LGA1851/Core Ultra-series. Also, 13th & 14th gen Intel were notorious for the degradation issues. I'd avoid 14th gen if one can help it. LGA1851 is DDR5-only. LGA1700 was treated as a transition-series since DDR5 was already out and about when Raptor Lake came out. You can still update the GPU to RTX 50-series and R90-series but it is limited to PCIe 4.0 with AM4 and 13th gen Intel. 14th gen Intel will get you to PCIe 5, but the CPU is a deadend for upgrades. AM5 and Core Ultra is better to longevity. But the latter are DDR5.

    LTT ran a video last week about a pre-builts from Costco. Some units may not have all the best components but they might be able to get you 80% there and you can upgrade when a good deal comes out. Microcenter and Newegg are running combo deals (CPU+Mobo+RAM) every week. Unfortunately the best time to have picked up a Nvidia card with 16GB VRAM was back in November/December 2025. If you can find a 5070Ti/5060Ti-16GB for a decent price, get it. Stepping down to a 5070 is probably your best option right now. Unfortunately, if you want a decent priced 16GB VRAM card, the Radeon 9070XT is your best sub-$1000 if Nvidia stock is lacking. Crucial P310 are still available. How much longer...🤷‍♂️ Silicon Power is your next best budget option. However, these are DRAM-less options. I'd try to stick to Gen4 drives to keep costs down. RAM....yeah. You'll have to start with 32GB and have to upgrade later. Consider slower RAM to save money. But right now, I'd stick to 32GB and upgrade later. That's the best option. Look at Thermalright Peerless Assassin. It can do just as well as the Noctua D15 at half the cost. You can play with your fan curves to make things quieter. But if you really want silence, then AIO is your better choice. 2 2TB 990 Evos now probably cost as much as a 5070Ti...from back in October.

    This is why I’m hesitant to send an older system with DDR4 RAM to the junk pile. I might never use it again, but with prices as they are, I might need to cannibalise it for parts with the way things will be for another 1-2 years.

    Exclusive: Warner Bros signs $110 billion deal with Paramount, its executive discloses in townhall (Reuters) Saw a snark comment on Reddit; maybe in a few years, Netflix can buy Paramount-Sykdance/WB-Discovery. So Netflix just pocketed $2.8 billion and if Paramount decides to backout or not gain regulatory approval, Paramount now stands to lose $7 billion. S&P Global placed Paramount on watch Negative from the potential merger. That's not bad per se but it lines up with my question about this merger. Paramount is also looking at $87 billion in debt. From all these recent mergers, you're looking at something that is getting bigger and can fall just as explosive as it built (I'm aware much of the world is essentially, financed by debt. But debt is debt. And merger after merger really piles on the debt all at once).

Discovery After Netflix Bows Out of Bidding War (Variety) My comment on this is, how is this being financed and how much debt is being incurred from the WB-Discovery merger that just finished last year (as in, I wonder when the ROI actually changes to black).

    Got a good giggle from this bit of news. Maybe the younger generation are realizing the "You own nothing and will be happy"-motto doesn't work for the long term.     Chinese-made RAM is really aimed at the Chinese-domestic market. They're not even aiming at the international market. Chinese-made RAM chips lacks many of the refinements from the big 3 and it's only time and engineering knowledge they are behind on. It's not "if" they catch-up, it's "when".

    Well, that didn't take long. Say Goodbye to the Idea of Chinese RAM Being Cheap; 32GB DDR5 Modules Now Retail for Over $500 as Local Prices Catch Up Globally (WCCFTech.com) Hardware Unboxed did test the RAM from Kingspec and found it mostly comparable 🤷‍♂️to RAM from the big-3 companies. Not necessarily better but not so much worst that it couldn't be recommended. But it appears that even the story of Chinese-made RAM will not be able to rescue the market.

    Valve breaks its silence on Steam Deck OLED scarcity and yes, it's because of the RAM and storage crisis (PC Gamer) AMD says the Steam Machine is supposed to come out this year but even I would doubt that. Valve probably have the CPUs stock ready but no RAM to go with it.
