Black Valkyrie Posted July 25 Posted July 25 7.5/10 turned to be good, which I didn`t expected it, better than you know who. Quote
Duke Togo Posted July 25 Posted July 25 Fantastic Four is better than Superman. I'd say significantly. Straightforward story, not overstuffed with plot or characters, and you don't need to know anything going in. Quote

The movie isn't bad in any way by any means in regards to acting or effects, but the plot? I was bored out of my mind watching it. So damn predictable and it doesn't help Galactus is a garbage tier one note villain. Silver Surfer was very meh. Quote

I stopped watching Marvel productions after BP2 (not because of that movie; I was just burned out), but from everything I had seen before that, this is the most "comic book" movie they've made. You would not confuse this for even mildly-serious science fiction. If I had one real criticism of the movie, it would be it did not lean into the aesthetic and vibe hard enough. It goes half way to that earlier-era, Donner Superman earnestness and innocence, when I feel it should have gone full-out. Quote

Thom Posted July 27 Posted July 27 I liked it a lot! Felt the story was good and straight forward, without too many other side plots muddling it up. The acting hit all the marks, and I really liked the feelings evoked by the performances. 8.5/10. Quote
mikeszekely Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Just saw it with my family. Would have been better if the family with the trio of really young kids would have realized that they probably should have left them with a sitter because they didn't shut up the entire time, but hey. I really liked the comic-accurate Galactus. Alternate universe or not I wish they'd kept Norrin Radd as the Surfer. Getting a little tired of Pedro Pascal being in everything these days, liked the rest of the cast. Quote
jvmacross Posted July 27 Posted July 27 Saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. Disney played it really safe with this one....no controversial moves really....unless you want to say casting a Hispanic to play Reed Richards was white-washing....I have read some of the hate online directed at him, but it’s never directly due to his ethnicity....mostly due to on-screen fatigue of him being in all of the most toxic franchises and genres, which unfortunately seem to elicit the worst in folks... Anyway, nothing really surprising or unexpected throughout the entire movie....may even go as far as saying it was a bit predictable....yet still an enjoyable Summer Spectacle...Hopefully Marvel can keep it up for the next round of superhero movies... I think that would be brown washing, but to be honest, I like Pedro a lot and even if he is in everything, at least he usually puts everything into his roles for the most part. Quote

Very true. He is in so many things because he is such a good actor. Quote

mikeszekely Posted July 28 Posted July 28 His acting is fine, it's just that in the last few years he went from, "hey, who's this, he's pretty good?" to being everywhere. I feel like Marvel casted him because only because he's the flavor of the month, never mind the fact that he sports a mustache that looks more Tony Stark than Reed Richards, or that the age gap between him and Vanessa Kirby is pretty noticeable and slightly distracting. Nothing personal, he's just not my ideal casting choice for the role (though better than Miles Teller). Quote
jvmacross Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Meh...isn't that the goal of actors?...to become the next big box-office draw for Hollywood studios? Don't recall this kind of complaint about white actors like Schwarzenegger, Stallone, Depp, Clooney, Pitt, Dicaprio, and several others throughout the years who were also "everywhere"....things are different now, we have the internet which allows losers to have their opinions amplified...like I said, it doesn't help that he is now a leading actor in 2 of the biggest IP's...Star Wars and Marvel....the 2 biggest franchises that also happen to be infested by the worst of fan behavior.....so for some, it just doesn't sit well and not being able to fit him into the "DEI" narrative being pushed by morons these days is leading them into pushing the "actor fatigue" BS that has never been a complaint for other "white" Hollywood leading actors....people just need to chill-out....let the entertainment value of the movie be the only thing that matters.... I think Leo was the only one you listed that had any complaints, but those were usually silenced once people saw that he was picking some better and more challenging roles for a while. As far as race/ gender swaps, I’m usually ok if the actor can pull it off and the movie turns out to be great. That unfortunately doesn’t always happen. It also sometimes gets a little cringe when it gets overdone like what happens with most red heads, but if the actor or actress can truly deliver then it gets forgiven. Quote
Mog Posted July 28 Posted July 28 Just got back from the film. Surprisingly better than I expected. Like that they played on how flawed Reed is, having all that guilt, being too logical and scientific at times, and always thinking about worst case scenarios. Characters are kinda consistent with how you'd expect them to be, without being overly annoying. There's ribbing here and there, but there's still love underlying their interactions. Spoiler Kinda sad that they have to set this in an alternate reality, as our world and the MCU is now so jaded. Doubt we'd be able to set aside our differences and build all those space bridges in such a quick amount of time. And glad they gave Sue more to do in this film without being too over-the-top about it. Mama bears gonna go all out. Thought the ending would somehow tie to the Thunderbolts teaser (as in bye-bye Earth-828). But have no clue how they'll tie to that without more multiverse shenanigans. Galactus and the Surfer were solid. Though, I do wish I had subtitles a few times, as I couldn't make out what Galactus was saying here and there. Old age and too used to subtitles at home. And as a dad, Spoiler yes, I laughed at the carseat scene. Gotta have more kids, and then it becomes second nature and you get the kid in there in under a minute. Quote

So, Doom abducts Frankling and the F4 follow him to 'our' universe, I'm pretty sure. Quote
Tking22 Posted July 28 Posted July 28 I saw it Sunday night and I really liked it, I liked both this and Superman pretty equally. Both were enjoyable, serviceable superhero films. Quote
