Keith Posted February 7, 2015 Share Posted February 7, 2015 The interesting situation there is that Anno seems to have taken possession of the Eva license away from Gainax, powwibly just in regards to the video release, and is releasing the TV series & movie set under Khara. Why is that interesting? Because he's also personally supervising 3.33's sub and dub release, which ia why Funi hasn't put it out yet. The same thing may occur when it comes time to relicense the series on BD over here. Personally, I'm hoping he chooses to just put subs on the Japanese set. Isn't part of the problem for a English language release also that ADV has that pending lawsuit about the live action NGE that bankrupted them? Keith Posted February 8, 2015 Share Posted February 8, 2015 Not sure if that was ever resolved, but it was a live action movie specific case, so it never affected any other franchise rights. While ADV does technically still exist (aside from ahifting the entire company into Sentaj Filmworks), Anno took the rights from Gainax, and the series belongs to Khara now, so it's still a non issue (as that suit was with Gainax). Specs aren't finalized yet, but it apparently has beem confirmed that the show is getting a new telecine HD master, as are likely the films. On a personal note, I can't help but wonder if Anno is having Funi work on more than just translating 3.33. If they'rr secretly working on retranslating the films and series, then there may just been English subs on this new set. I just can't wait to see EOE in HD. It's funny, I think I knew about the different modes back then. I had a Beta too which had the smaller tapes. But I look at my old VHS Robotech recordings and the modes are all over the place. Plus you can tell I didn't know how to use the pause function when recording as when shows stop and start it cuts off scenes and dialog. I used the longer mode for some Robotech segments to get I think 4+ hours on the tape. It looks so washed out. But that's how I remember watching it originally. I still watch the New Generation from episode 3 to the vacation episode, many in between epsodes are missing, on VHS. I still don't have it on DVD. Waiting for Blu-ray. Anime like Bubblegum Crisis, Gunbuster, and Dangaio weren't available to rent. Or at least I never checked. I had to get those at comic shops or mail order. I think Nikaku and Books Nippan were the places back then. in mono audio only, too... Stereo was a big deal with the first real or professional looking Sony VHS I purchased.
