HG and Robotech Debates

Lets expose them to the Macross opening theme rendition by Yoshiki Fukuyama with a very appropriate AMV.

You, sir are an absolutely heartless and vicious person.

How dare inflict such a unflinchingly relentless four minute attack of pure unadulterated Macross awesomeness on poor, defenceless and unsuspecting Robotech fans??

How are they gonna deal with such "shock and awe"?

They'll cover their ears, shut their eyes, and chant "But when I was six years old, Robotech was THE BEST THING EVER!!!" over and over.

OK, finally up to date, Hahaha.

So, um, anyway...How was everyone's day?

Just got home from work about an hour ago, and well, it was fine,,, did my part in putting away the common criminal street trash. Good stuff. Man, I guess I'm not gonna get an answer from Memo at this point... wait, I take it back, no response does signify an answer.

On another topic, who says MacrossWorld is a joke? It's done what no other site has been able to do, and that's bring Robotech and Macross fans together. Macross fans love MW, Robotech fans keep coming back and can't get enough. Web traffic is up, I think our cult practices have brought bountiful harvest.

LOL. Some people still do that about the Sylvester McCoy seasons of Dr Who.

Yeah, I throw out The BOMBA like it was last weeks Deculture!

I just talked to Gubaba about this, and I started thinking about why the Robotech fans with any status (or status between their two ears) decide to stay in this ignorant, defensive state? Afterall, we don't see too many fans going this route, except a couple bandwagoners. Then, it started coming to me. To actually read the facts, and not hide under the "ignorance banner" would mean that there's great list of things that they'd be wrong about, and would have to face those. Now, whether they do it consciously or unconsciously, I don't know, nor do I care. But it makes a lot of sense in that manner, and really does bring up the question of why we engage in the on and on and on and on debates over things like artistic impression vs. child pornography, and the right to use Macross designs in new productions and new footage. Ignorace seems bliss for these people. That's more or less why I don't answer any questions regarding the HG licensing. Simply summarizing, you get post like what was linked on rtx.com. I gotta call Bull$hit when I see it, so it is what it is.

Then, if you really go back to the base of these debates, what are they? They're small, insignificant claims by same said people in a much bigger arena. Something that's child pornography to someone that has a problem with sexual tension is gonna see it as that, and someone who thinks HG can still use Macross designs is still never gonna see them. It seems like these small arguments are simply to make the world they create seem bigger than it is, and a way to lash out at their precious Robotech's "competitor" (I loosely say that, because aside from the Macross saga/SDF Macross, they have no similarities really) So, what do they do? They create these weak and well, to sum it up, stupid claims to make themselves feel better by putting down the "competitor". It's what I'm starting to realize, and it really makes all this kinda pointless to some extent.

Which is funny, because Ignorance is still just ignorance.

Which is why we will always have people like Bendover, Mav, MEMO, and the majority of what is on the Robotech Websites.

Arguing with the RT fanboys is like arguing with Neo-Nazi's about who won WWII.

That was the best Robotech video ever!

Hey where's the The Macross II Saga footage?

That definitely has the makings of one of the best AMVs ever. I do miss the Mac II footage in it though as well. Nonetheless, very well put together.

Your going to make me leave Setoism to become a Basaraite.

's okay, I've actually got a bunch of Fire Bomber albums on my Zune... it's a shame some of that good stuff didn't get used in the show itself, or I might've viewed it more favorably.

Which is one of the worst things about the movie. It was not written with new viewers in mind. If you had not seen RT before, you might be wondering, "Who is this Hunter guy and why should i care about him?" and other such questions. It's funny how HG expects to get new fans without making their big comeback movie accessible to the casual viewer.

I know... it's a weird little paradox that they expected the Shadow Chronicles movie to attract new viewers who've never seen Robotech before and probably haven't heard of it either, yet the incredibly stilted and awkward writing is clearly aimed specifically at preexisting fans, which would make it very difficult for the movie's intended audience to even untangle what's going on and why they should give a damn... a problem exacerbated by the fact that the totally nonsensical motivations of the new big bad (the Haydonites) are only explained in a limited-printing comic book series which has been unavailable for ages.

and PS. WHY SETO?!?!?! WHY DO ALL THE ROBOCRAZIES FOLLOW YOU AROUND?!?!?! It's like you killed their dogs, burned their houses down and stole their women and they are out for your head.

Well... I certainly didn't burn down any houses or kill any dogs, but I make no guarantees on the "women" front. I'm more inclined to suspect that it's because my frequent use of logical, well-reasoned arguments based firmly on the facts is ultimately detrimental to their desire to continue viewing Robotech through rose-tinted glasses. I expect this is why they're so determined to come after me and try, however pathetically, to discredit me. I guess they think if they can silence me, it'll make all the bad thoughts about how Robotech might not be quite as good as they remember go away. :p

So doug was just reading this thread...

I imagine he's going to go try to gather his thoughts into one short, incoherent paragraph where he ignores the logical counters of Seto and the undeniable logic of VFTF1, and post it some time from now while at the same time making a sad attempt to insult everybody on this site.

Now there's a safe bet... he's already done it like four times...

Robotech induces me to consume liberal amounts of alcohol.

I once came up with a Robotech drinking game where you were supposed to take a drink every time you found a plot hole, but we realized pretty quickly that we'd all be in detox by the end of the first five episodes if we did.

Envy, Robotech fan is thy name! :)

Totally.

They'll cover their ears, shut their eyes, and chant "But when I was six years old, Robotech was THE BEST THING EVER!!!" over and over.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the exact reason we've always been given whenever we ask why Robotech fans still prefer Robotech?

"Macross World: You'll come for Seto, but you'll stay for the BOMBAA!!"

Between that and the promise of more VF-1 mechanic sheets in Chronicle, poor Azrael's probably having nightmares.

Which is funny, because Ignorance is still just ignorance.

Which is why we will always have people like Bendover, Mav, MEMO, and the majority of what is on the Robotech Websites.

Ah holy crap! You actually posted! I wish we could say that it was blind ignorance and that there's a chance they could get better, but for far too many it's willful ignorance. It's not that they don't know there are better things out there, it's that they don't want to know, or perhaps don't want to acknowledge that they know, because they're afraid of admitting they've wasted 20+ years of their lives clinging to a show that's going nowhere.

That definitely has the makings of one of the best AMVs ever. I do miss the Mac II footage in it though as well. Nonetheless, very well put together.

An excellently executed AMV to be sure, but I find its lack of Macross II disturbing. *force chokes the author*

Weak shot . There's a lot of rubbish in Sylv's run as the Doctor, but there's some good stuff in there too. Remembrance of the Daleks, The Greatest Show in the Galaxy, The Curse of Fenric and Survival are all good stories and even some of the bad stuff, like The Happiness Patrol, had some interesting concepts that unfortunately fell short when it came to the execution.

It's certainly far from being the best in the series, but it has a lot more going for it than Robotech ever did. :p

Oh, damn, he still hasn't posted. He must be REALLY baffled.

I'm trying to resist the temptation to await his next post like a dog waiting for a piece of raw meat to tear apart.

We're not going to change his mind, he's not going to change ours. Yes, it's all good fun to look at his posts, and count the misstatements, or the logical leaps, or the spelling and grammar errors...but really, there's nothing there to engage with. Sure, Pete can write pages and pages in response, but Pete has a restless mind, and chews ideas the way others chew bubblegum.

Most of us can't (or don't want to) engage Doug on that level...and Doug can't engage Pete back on the same level, so what's the point? Just to laugh and feel superior? You don't need him to post HERE to do that; just "lesson" to his dozens of hours of podcasts, and you'll feel superior quite quickly.

Besides, now that Doug has realized that Seto really ISN'T our leader (and never claimed to be), he may have lost his reason to come here. I kind of hope so, if only for the Mods' peace of mind. ^_^

Did Carl Macek work on "Battle Beyond the Stars " ? Cause that video sounds as bad as that movie looked.

That happened a lot of VHS and Beta videos after a while. In one of the BADs, they commented on a clip where the show was accidentally/deliberately turned upside down by whoever worked on it. But they used a clip from Captain Harlock and the Queen of a Thousand Years where Carl Macek The Narrator wouldn't shut the hell up.

Actually, he might describe this as a victory on his show as he did for what happened in rtx. What did he manage to do since he started posting here? Umm... showed how superior he is compared to us by not actually achieving anything...?

Yeah, but he calls EVERYTHING a victory. Banned from RT.com? Victory. Joining RT.com again? Victory. Getting someone to appear on his show? Victory. Not getting someone to appear on his show? Victory.

So what? It's his podcast; let him say whatever he wants to. Yes, I'm sure some of his "lessoners" are fooled by his spin, but probably not many. And if his audience numbers are as low as Seto says they are, he's speaking to a nearly empty room.

So who cares what he says?

And therein lies the chief problem in getting him to understand that nobody gives a damn... he'll try to spin anything as a victory. Just the other night he was hopping up and down proclaiming what a victory it was for him that I wasn't a bigshot among Macross fans like he was trying to make me out to be on RobotechX and his podcast. I'm sure he'll be loudly proclaiming that he won by default when we refused to acknowledge his ridiculous claim that Macross Frontier is CP. Point is, he's such an egomaniac that he has to try and spin everything as a personal victory so that he can continue to delude himself into thinking he matters.

Bendo claims that he gets between 500 and 900 downloads of his show per episode... a dubious claim if ever I saw one. I can personally vouch for the fact that the average number of live listeners on his show does not exceed 2. So far, the largest live audience I've seen him with is 6 people (two of which were myself and Robelwell), which was an entirely hostile audience that spent the entire two-hour episode mocking him. He once tried to claim in one episode that he'd had 20+ live listeners, not realizing I had anonymously attended the show along with Viper, and that we took care to note not more than 4 live listeners (ourselves included) had been present at any one time.

So who cares what he says?

He does, but he's the only one... and maybe his "girlfriend".

Since this is (at least tangentially) related to Robotech... does anybody know of a good, stable, free CMS? I'm shopping around for one for that Robotech fansite project I'm helping with and not having much luck.

If that's true, then I expect everyone to prove it. Stop worrying about what he's saying on his podcast, stop caring about what he claims or doesn't claim, stop checking to see what websites he's joined.

If he's as much of a desperate, lonely fraud as he seems, what he says should have no effect on anyone. Just because someone wants to hand you a pile of dogshit doesn't mean you have to accept it.

Really, who does? <_< I certainly don't. He's just another strange person on the 'Net. I've said it many times, let them live in their own world over there. No matter how silly they may be over there at RT.com or RTX or where ever, let it be. It ain't our problem. If you have a problem with them, deal with it there. If they don't want to listen to you over there, then there's nothing we can do about it here. So don't waste your time. And if all this madness starts becoming a problem here, then maybe we need to clean out some of the membership here.

On another note I think dougbendo keeps mentioning loli's b/c he may have a secret thing for Mylene Jenius. He's probably jealous of gubaba.
