For those who were planning to import, Final Fantasy XIII is now out in Japan on the PS3.

...those of us who want the US or European versions, however, must wait until early March. You can thank the 360 version for that.

yeah... stupid square giving the game a potential double market... what were they thinking??? Like it or not, with the production costs spiraling upwards, a multi-system is the way of the future.

Oooh, a kanye west reference, clever! And the 360 has a larger install base everywhere BUT japan. So what's your point? Square is in the business of making money, if they have a chance to potentially double their sales figure in the international market by delaying the game by a few months on one hand, and making a few sony fanboys cry boo-hoo tears on the other, which choice do you think they're going to make?

Minor nitpick, but that's not entirely true. They're pretty much dead even in European sales. The Xbox is ahead, but the proportionate gap is much smaller in Canada and Australia. The only place with a huge disparity in sales between the Xbox and PS3 is the US.

...But the point stands that it would be foolish to ignore such a large customer base.

Are we really complaining that a game that just came out in Japan isn't available internationally yet? Shouldn't we be used to getting games after Japan does by now?

And yeah, if Microsoft gives you sacks of money with dollar signs printed on them (which I suspect is the case), and all they ask in return is that the Xbox version releases day and date with the PS3 version, "unreasonable" would be one polite way of describing anyone who wouldn't do it. And I don't think Squeenix is afraid of making 360 fanboys cry as much as they're afraid of not having sacks of money with dollar signs printed on them.

Frankly, I don't get what all the fuss is about this time. The last time I played a good Final Fantasy game "PlayStation" was a gray console competing with the N64, not a brand. I've got zero interest in XIII.

Your kanye quote doesn't even make sense... how did I interrupt you? I just offered a counter argument albeit in a snarky tone.

If MS is going to be helping to get the game out the door by giving square millions of dollars, is it so unreasonable to ask for simultaneous release date? The fact is, for the N. America market, the 360 version of any game sells nearly 2:1 what the PS3 version does, even if the game is marketed primarily for the PS3 like assassins creed 2.

This isn't a Sony game. It's made by a 3rd party who took money from a major publisher who is well known for having some strict rules in order to do business with them. So if you want to blame somebody, blame Square, MS is just doing what they always do and protecting their investment.

It could also be due to Sakaguchi's Mistwalker studio releasing the FF-clone Lost Odyssey on the 360. No better way to hurt a former employee-turned-rival than releasing a rival game on the same platform.

Ironically, Sakaguchi left Square stating that 1)he hates Sony, and 2)Square focuses on Final Fantasy too much.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't gotten too far into the game to fairly rate it just yet.

To celebrate my new bedroom TV (52" Bravia LCD), just did the DIY YLOD repair and have my OG 60GB (with a 320GB installed) repaired and running. Bought 12/06, YLOD 6/09, resurrected 12/09. Bought a Drake's Fortune bundle after the price drop. Didn't have a recent backup and didn't want to lose progress on a bunch of games so knew I would eventually get around to a DIY repair.

For the most part, it's very simple. If you've built your own computer or server, you can easily do this. The hardest part is taking it apart slowly enough that you don't yank on any of the ribbon cables, but Sony thankfully used a latch system that makes them easy to pull and easy to put back in. Was a bit uncertain with the heat gun part, but bought a $25 one at Home Depot and it worked swimmingly. First thing I did was get a good full backup to an external USB drive. Then I cherry picked some saved game files (GTA IV, LBP especially) to an external USB (my cell phone, to be precise) and put them on the Drake's Bundle with no issue. Had a brief issue of no wifi or bluetooth since I forgot to reconnect and/or relatch the bluetooth/wifi board to the mobo, but once I corrected that, everything 100% operational. Had firmware 2.76 on it, and missed the elegant simplicity that 3.00 has mucked up with PS Store adverts everywhere. Grudgingly did a software update anyways, so I can get my trophies to update there.

Now I face the awkward issue of only playing certain games on certain consoles or going through the PITA to transfer the saved games from bedroom to living room (or vice versa). For now, I'm playing God of War collection and NBA2k on the bedroom set and playing Uncharted 2 and others on the living room set. Have watched plenty of Blu-rays and can attest to 100% functionality. now that I have a good backup, will probably send it to Sony for $150 if it dies again (most people get a few months after a DIY repair), since the main obstacle is now past (I REALLY did not want to play Three Leaf Clover again. )

That is Home. It was meant to be a virtual social and media hub a la Second Life, but it flopped pretty badly from what I understand (I haven't touched Home since last year)

I heard there's more content on Home depending on which region you're playing in. The Asian version sounds like it has the most. Plus, you have to pay for the good stuff, like that Sodium game they released.

They should have done more for the Christmas season. All we got was 12 days of ornaments for your personal space if you wore specific types of clothing at a Christmas Tree each day. Some of the clothing wasn't available anymore and others required you to buy them through microtransactions before you got the prize.

It's not just that there wasn't enough free content, the whole thing was poorly thought out. It's just a weak, gimped version of 2nd Life and by the time Home was released, 2nd Life was already fizzling out.

There is MUCH more to do in Home. I took a few months off from it (mostly pissed that I lost all the settings that were on my YLOD PS3). There's alot more games in there and alot more To DO. If Sony really intended it as a 2nd Life type thing, it's fail, but there are some pretty fun things to do now (Try Sodium - with the flying tanks and all that. It's free to start and get used to it, you can keep going if you want to pay the $5 for your avatar). Linking with other games is still haphazard but has potential. You buy the Star Trek DAC game, for example, you get the movie uniforms to put on your avatar. More conventional is stuff like Bandai did with their Namco Arcade thing (win pacman shirt, dig dug hat, etc).

Just about every space has it's own free mini-games, but I can and have spent a couple hours in the EA Sports space playing Poker, winning jackets and hats and shirts and what not. Try it again if you haven't tried it in awhile. I haven't been to half the spaces but noticed that most of the spaces I was going to on Japan and HK accounts are now in the US space, as well (though they still have a couple unique ones, as well).

if Home offered more stuff without premium, had more options for character customization (ala maybe Aion), etc, I probably would like it more.

Whirled, for one, is alot more appealing than Home. The content can be bought with actual money or coins earned from mini-games (although there is exclusive content for those who do pay), and the neat thing is that alot of the content in Whirled is user-created. You can actually make money off of Whirled just by creating content. I could ding Whirled for many things but overall I think it's better than Home, although it's a bit heavy on flash...

If they modeled Home after Whirled, I bet it would've enjoyed a bigger userbase than what it has right now.

After about three months of going into Home, I wish there was more to do besides play games for clothing. I'm not really pumped up about playing Texas Hold 'em so much to get a bracelet. Also, that Alcove Set in the Siren gamespace that needs people to work together to get it.

Next year I should try out the socializing part of Home.

Apparently the man behind the iphone jailbreak hack took him 5 weeks to hack the PS3. So more than three years later after the PS3 debuted, it's finally been done. Or so it seems.

A lot of us used to joke around that no one would bother to hack the PS3 because it natively supported Linux. Now, shortly after the slim PS3 axes Linux support, the PS3 has been hacked. No, I don't believe Linux was the reason this guy hacked the PS3, but the timing sure is ironic.

The possibility of running homebrew apps on the PS3 is staggering. The PS3 has so much hardware power that it could easily emulate the Dreamcast. A good enough coder might even be able to get it to emulate the Gamecube and Xbox1. As for me, I'd simply settle for the ability to finally play my import PS1/PS2 games on my 60GB PS3.

I will always buy FF games on a PS system. It only seems right. The way I see it, they should've just kept it exclusive to PS. So now we gotta wait because of the 360? That sucks.

By that same logic, Square should have never released an FF game on a PS system... As it was exclusively Nintendo before.

I'm having a bit of a problem. I turned my PS3 on today, and about a second after it turned on, it beeped again. When I turn to look at the TV, it is only displaying in 480i. I checked my Display Settings, and it recognizes that I am using Component Cables, but it just says that I am at 480i resolution and doesn't give me the option to change it when I go through the process of selecting them again, it only lets me choose the widescreen or standard.

I have tried powering down, removing power, removing and reinserting the cable... nothing seems to work.
