I guess what makes me facepalm the most.. did electricity somehow get erased from existence? EMP type effects wiping out electronics, sure, but are they saying that nothing makes electricity anymore? Like.. are we saying that physics have been re-written and you no longer get shocked from walking across carpet in socks? Or that turning a crank on a generator won't generate a charge? Or that even nature itself has been reformed, and thunderstorms don't exist anymore? Seriously. And then somehow, someone has a working computer?

Ok. I must give them props for using part of probably the most epic piece of music I've ever heard for that trailer. However.. Yeah. Sense. This concept makes none.

Also, I thought all the VF-19 versions had the slots for the sound booster? I haven't seen it mounted on any other versions, but I thought the pieces with the slots were universal across all the separate releases.

Is there an official definition for what the name stands for, or are they leaving it as an ambiguous reference to both "Flashback" and "Fire Bomber?"

Honestly, I'd probably just chalk it up to sloppyness. Given how off-model every picture of the fighter mode seems to be, I don't think they were paying much attention to past reference material when they drew it. I'd almost think they drew the fighter mode partly based on the 1/65 Bandai toy of the Fire Valk. They obviously corrected the nose length, but the chunky shapes don't look anything like the Fire Valk's art did. The blocky wing glove shape especially looks bizarre, as does that weird scoopy mess of a shape they drew for the intake. Good point about the wing glove stripe continuing though. Even though they didn't draw the second half of the stripe, it looks like the outline for it is there, just not filled in.

I'm not too concerned about them being removable, since they are shown to rotate. We at least know they're a separate piece. How they're plugged in, or whether they stay in has yet to be seen.

Wait, what? I've had this preordered with NY for a while, I wonder if they're just sending out the payment requests now. No note from them on my end, since I paid ahead. Also, youch, that was fast, order stop at HLJ already.

Battroid isn't bad either. It could potentially use a bit more black striping on the shoulders I think, but this is a very minimalist approach, not painting over any large chunks of the aircraft to avoid the possibility of scratching the paint. I do wish they'd get a consistent color of yellow on it at least though. I'm guessing it's from the oddball painting process on the prototype, since it wouldn't make sense to cast those parts in separate colors for the actual release.

Ok, I got an easy solution. Minimal painting, easy custom, and epic results. I just sold myself on this one. Maybe for 2.

I dunno.. I just did a quick paint mod to it.. the yellow isn't quite perfect, but I'm more excited than ever for this one. I just need to do a decent shop job to share my plans. This thing just got 1000x more awesome looking.

I just hope they decide to go with the close-up details in the cel, rather than the crazy nonsense shown in those other pics. Cuz.. you know.. going by the higher detail resources would make sense. This is one of those amusing cases where canon disagrees with itself. In cases like this, you just have to have the sense to go by the version of canon that isn't so freaking ugly. In this case I kinda don't care one way or the other about canon as long as it looks good. Actually.. on second thought.. You know what? The ugly red will be easy to fix/strip/whatever. But that yellow plastic will be a pain to fix.. unless I decide to make use of it. I dunno about anyone else.. but that nice green visor has me seeing bones.

Yeah, Yamato needs to see that cel NOW. There's about 5 things right off the bat that are incredibly wrong, based on that cel. I guess we can chalk a lot of it up to inconsistency in animation.. but painting it in the current colors would be akin to using Virgin Road as the primary reference for all the 1/60 VF-1s.

Except, it's not in line. It just stops. I dunno why this one in particular is so inconsistent between lineart and animation. I mean.. even the shape of the plane is different.

I'm just glad that none of the hideous parts will be too difficult to de-ugly. The pink stripes will come off easily enough, and the ankle rings aren't at any significant risk for scratching. Toughest part will be the shoulders. I've never tried to take apart a VF-19 yet, but I wonder how hard it would be to mix and match pieces between the various versions. If it's not too much trouble, I might wait for a sale and stock up on VF-19Fs for spare parts. I still would prefer Yamato just go into full-bore mold-milking mode, and release a low-vis, plain white, or kit version. This is the first mold since the YF-21 to get more than 3 separate versions released. Over the entire Macross universe, I'd probably place the YF/VF-19 as only behind the VF-1 in overall popularity. On the Hasegawa side of things, it's the only kit besides the VF-1 to get the 1/48 treatment, and I see more customs of the YF-19 kits than anything else besides the VF-1s. While it's definitely not in the same price category as the 1/60 VF-1s, I still want to see Yamato make more of them, and I'd gladly keep buying them, because it's both my favorite VF design, and an amazing piece of engineering. I want to see as many of these made as possible... just.. I want the possibility of getting them in good colors. I don't think painting them is really a viable option, so that means molding them in different colors. I keep holding out hope that they'll make versions based on the Master File designs. They're already clearly pulling material from that book for the markings. I'd love to see them release versions that those markings would look good on.

Well, think of it like the blue "movie" Alto VF-25 release.. it was different, no one bought it because they thought it looked dumb, and it got marked down heavily in clearance sales. The color didn't bug me, so I was happy to get a VF-25F with super packs at a huge discount. Yamato may have learned with the VF-22s, but this is one valk I would LOVE for them to overproduce. In its standard colors? Yeah, it's ugly. But this is also the absolute best candidate for making customs, since it's white. If I saw these on clearance with a hefty discount, I would pick up multiples just for repainting, and I'm sure a lot of people here would do the same.

Very good point, I did get something recognizable. I do kind of wonder how these film cel things work though.. do they cut up one entire movie to be divided amongst every LE set sold, or do they just reproduce some specific scenes, so some people might get duplicates? If they aren't entirely random, I do wish they'd limit the selection to more recognizable scenes. I'd feel really bad if someone managed to get frames from in between the Zentraedi dialogue in the opening, or the bit at the end with Minmay counting, since all you'd get is a bunch of black screen.

You know.. I thought of something. There's a part of me that is really hoping this scheme doesn't change at all, and retains all of its current uglyness for the final release. Because that might mean somewhere down the road, this one winds up in the same position as all those M&M VF-22s that HLJ can't seem to sell, and always marks down to 50% off. If that happens here, it'll be a huge benefit to the people who want to make custom VF-19s. Barring an eventual unpainted kit release, of course... I know it's not likely at all, but I will keep hoping it happens.

Man, those Supernova YF-19s are so beautiful.. it really irks me Yamato didn't do that scheme themselves. Well, maybe second time around, they'll pull it off. I'm eagerly awaiting some hint that they're planning an update to the YF-19. In the meantime, I wonder if anyone makes those markings in 1/48 scale now...

Mine wound up arriving safe and sound, apparently it just got delayed somehow from CDJapan. Loving the extras, but didn't get a chance to watch it yet. I envy you folks who got good film cels though. I wound up with a series of frames showing the stage before the scene involving the micloned Zentraedi. No characters in the shot, just a picture of the stage banner with the UN and Zentraedi insignias. Now to go wait for the PS3 to hit bargain basement prices so I can play the game, and download the old PS1 DYRL game.

Ahh, got it then, that makes sense. I checked all the Yamato items and everything was pretty much back up to normal prices, though a lot of items seem to be permanently marked at 10% off. The GNU figures are still 80% off though, which really is a nice price for those. I picked up a YF-19/YF-21 pair, and while I'm a little disappointed they don't have thigh swivels, and like to pop apart easily, they look pretty awesome guarding my entertainment system. I think I would have felt really ripped off at full price, but $8 a pop feels just right.

Wait, the sale is still going? What items are still discounted? I might be tempted to grab another VF-11, just to make my shipment with the DYRL Cannon Fodder VF-1A a bit more cost effective.

I probably should go ahead and stick to HLJ from now on as well, but I just noticed they've got the VF-19F, and VF-17D with packs set to "order stop".. I'm not too concerned that they'll run out of stock, but I'm surprised because I don't remember that happening with Yamato preorders before. Bandai's preorder shenanigans has made me paranoid I guess. I've got preorders for all three (the 19F, 17D, and 19P) at AmiAmi now, so I'm not worried about getting them, but I still prefer getting stuff via FedEx here.

I'll tentatively preorder this one there, but I wish I could combine shipping for the VF-19F and VF-17D I might cancel and preorder them all from HLJ to combine them later.

Oh no trouble, I thought you were talking about the wing stripe, since that doesn't line up in the animation, but does on the lineart from earlier. I was just noting that in general, the markings they have on there so far don't match up with the animation.
