Yeah.. just finished the first novel, and have to agree, that anime was a complete charlie foxtrot. It crammed the beginning and end of the first book into the first episode, then splattered random bits of the rest of that book across the episodes, before turning into some kind of "HAH, FOOLED YOU!" ending. The actual entire point of the plot got somehow lost in the backwash. Also was really disappointing how little screentime the actual Super Sylph got because of that. The book just made much more sense.

Aircraft Super Thread Mk.VII
Chronocidal replied to David Hingtgen's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
Wish I was a bit farther south, I could've seen that myself. Congrats to you all who got to see it fly in person. Oh, and I forgot.. it's easier than I thought. Just call it the J-21 Laptol. -
I do have one of these, and never noticed any problem with mine. I think it came from the later releases, so you'll probably be fine. I'd check the listing on Anymoon.com, since there's a fairly thorough listing of any v.2 VF-1s that were known to have shoulder problems. I know there was a supposed cut-off point, where any valks released past a certain release (I want to say Max's TV VF-1A) should be safe, but there were a few later releases that used old stock.
-
Considering the shipping on those, there are probably much better ways to display your valks. I mean.. sure, you can set them on there.. but you're talking about a flat piece of plastic supported by posts. They don't sell the ones with the pedestals for mounting valks on anymore. I guess I never really understood why Yamato keeps selling the display bases without selling the mounting armatures anymore. Sure, they might work decently as risers for setting figures on, but I'm sure you could make your own risers out of clear acrylic very easily (and I know some people on these boards have done just that).

For a country that experienced and dedicated in making cheap bootleg copies of other people's work, what else can you really expect? I'm tempted to start slapping Chinese sounding nonsense words together with "raptor" to come up with a really racist sounding nickname. -
Eh, I have the original, and my experience with it is exactly why I want a new one.

Sheesh.. that's insane, 40% off? Note to self, just be patient with future releases.

Well, should say, finished painted pictures. The ones posted in the other thread were all of what looked like a test shot for the molds.

Secrets of the VF-14m7 P*L*U*S finally revealed!

Heh.. After playing so many Legend of Zelda games, part of me wants to call them "rupee launchers." Nice work on this, I always did wonder how this one was supposed to transform. -
Well, I'm content with sticking to HLJ for all but the most ridiculous (read "Bandai") releases. I'd rather have the possibility to get replacements in case something comes broken, and I know HLJ has a pretty good reputation there with most people.
-
I need to go back and look at my billing, but I think when I paid ahead for NY it was much less than the current price. Now if I could just remember what day that preorder happened on..
-
Are there still no pics yet of the VF-25G? Seriously, Bandai, it's like you don't even care about your own products, or you're just convinced that the only people who would buy them anyway already pre-ordered.
-
Whoa, yeah... I need to cancel my NY order in this case, and reorder with HLJ.. the shipping is probably exaggerated because they don't have actual size/weight info, but there's no way EMS for those should be $100.

Darn, I was hoping this was going to be the intro video for a new Tie Fighter game. Still.. that was freaking brilliant.

If they're going to just release kits then, I wish they'd consider releasing some in different colors. There are so many white valks, they all blur together. And it's not like it'd be a massive undertaking to release them in colors they've already released. The VE-1 and VF-X were already in gray, all they'd have to do is prep the molds for more of those types, and skip the tampo and assembly processes.
-
I guess then the kit version was made to appease all those fans who wanted non-canon schemes? If that's the case, they need to start issuing kits of everything. I don't get it though. They have to know what the low vis 1/48 goes for now. Maybe it didn't sell well to start, but there's a certain portion of the fanbase who'd be selling off spare organs to get military scheme releases of everything. Maybe it'd make more sense to make them web exclusives, but I have a hard time believing there's no profit to be made on them.

Considering his position, Docker could've been 100 too. Though, going by the animation, I don't think any of the aircraft had numbers anywhere in the actual series anyway. I'm still holding out hope for a generic gray version at some point. I wouldn't even care if they put any markings on it at all, just mold everything in gray plastic, and be done with it. Or, if you have to use markings, use the VF-19F's paint apps. Gray with white highlights wouldn't look bad at all, and it'd be pretty close to one of the Master Files schemes.

Ok, good news about my problems with sloppyness, looks like there was just a bit of mold flash inside the tab slot on the underside of the right wing glove. Trimmed that out, and now everything locks together nicely. As far as the ankles go on mine, seems to be the same situation I've had with all of the VF-19s. I'm able to push the ankles to their extremes after loosening the screws, but they get a little sloppy around the center. Can get a decent gerwalk angle that way, but I don't know if I'll ever let this beauty leave fighter mode to begin with. I'd really love to explore a permanent solution to all this nonsense, but Yamato went back to their old ways of gluing everything together, and leaving none of the major assembly screws exposed. Also, never really realized it before, but the way they started using spring-pins for everything really stymies the idea that we might ever get a kit of this one. There are some assemblies on the VF-19 that I'm half convinced you couldn't assemble by hand.

Just referring to Graham's comments, and the possibility of them being reissued.
-
You know what though.. there's a good reason this is true. A lot of times, it takes the interest generated by a custom mod to convince a company that a mass production of that mod might be worthwhile. If Yamato gets a surge of sudden sales of VF-0s, and they do the research to correlate it to your mod kit getting released, someone might go, "Hey, you know, this might not be too hard to do..."
-
I definitely got a couple of sets of 1/48 VF-1 decals from Yamato, but I forget why. I think it was some promotional offer through HLJ.

You know what's actually funny about this... I can tolerate Basara a lot better in Japanese, because reading someone talking like a jerk and hearing it seem to have entirely separate effects on my mind. He comes off as loud and obnoxious, but his translation makes him sound like a complete mental deficient.
-
Wait, floors count as display space now too? Shoot, I should take a pic of my bedroom.. most of the valks I have unpacked are leaning against the walls and furniture, sitting on their engines in fighter mode.

Well, I'm assuming he's going off the ones from Macross Zero, and it doesn't look far off from this pic. The ones he's got might be a little oversized, but it looks like the right placement. By the way, I'm guessing the wing stripes are taken from the Nora SV-51 kit, but still doesn't decrease how impressive they look on that MiG. Honestly, that scheme is one of my all time favorite paint schemes on any plane, ever. I actually made a custom P-38 skin for IL-2 with that type of scheme, and it looks just as good there. It's just a very striking scheme to use, and I really don't know of many planes it wouldn't look good on. It gets even better if you start swapping colors around. I think I did a version in blue with white stripes that was really beautiful too.

Well, they might be rotated somewhat, but I can't for the life of me figure out how. You know how literally everything on this thing locks together in fighter mode? There's tabs holding everything together from multiple directions... BUT.. if I pull on the right wing? The entire right wingroot will fold out without any trouble. It'll fold out and down just like I can do with my old YF-19, without doing anything to unlock the arm, or drop the leg on that side. The left side wingroot won't budge until I've dropped the leg at the hip joint. I don't think I'm missing any tabs or anything, but the right wing isn't locking into place like it should. Putting the right leg back in place after lowering it is also problematic, it doesn't like to fit where it's supposed to go. The shoulder on that side also seemed very resistant to let go of the leg too, as if the tabs are all locking in slightly off-center. All in all, it's not broken.. but it just feels like it's a bit off somehow. Some joint or something might be misaligned, some tab might be misshapen, I don't know. I'll have to look at it in great detail to figure it out. One thing I did discover though.. if you're having trouble lifting the shoulders off the legs? Use a plastic spoon.
