  1. It'll be nice to have these sets finally. I'd been holding off building my 1/72 armored kits because I wasn't sure if I wanted to try and rig them to be transformable. Since I can get a decent transforming toy now though, I've got no reservations about gluing the kits together to be non-transforming (battroid for Ozma, fighter for Alto).
  2. Beautiful job on that. I have to admit, I have a personal thing for fully painted markings, I love doing any marking I can that way, just because it looks so amazing once everything's painted. Plus, I've never enjoyed having large decals shred on me. I can't remember if you mentioned attempting this before, but did you tweak the angles the lower legs sit at? They look a bit higher than the standard 1/72 Hasegawa kit has them, closer to way the 1/48 kit has them, and the plane overall doesn't look like the nose is pointing down so much.
  3. I'm hoping for a reissue of the DYRL two seaters too, I never did get to pick up a VE-1. I've always kind of wished I had the guts to weather my valks, but never wanted to cross the line from "playable" to "careful, you might scratch it!" It's bad enough the Bandai valks are already like that. About the VT-1's head though.. I do agree it's very interesting, but I never quite understood the design, since it always seems out of place in fighter. On the other hand, I love how it looks if you stick the 1D's head on the VT-1. If I had the spares to customize, I think it'd be fun to swap the booster packs from the VE-1 onto the VT-1, replace the sensor array domes with standard missile launchers or strike cannons, and paint everything into a combat training scheme. It always seemed odd to me that the VT-1 had no weapons... it should've at least had a head laser or something for utility purposes.
  4. Because it's not some ridiculously bright shade of plastic that you'll need gobs of paint to cover. The part fit and tolerances on the VF-19 are so tight, there's really no room for all that extra paint, and it's going to get scratched off. If you start with a base color of white(ish) you can just strip off the existing markings, and still do a lot to customize it, even if you don't give it an overall coat. I'd still prefer one that uses the VF-19F/S's shoulders and wings though. The prospect of kitbashing VF-19s together is a really[/] expensive prospect, unless we start seeing the S/F/P models under sell, and they wind up on HLJ's clearance list like the VF-22s do.
  5. Eh. color me slightly disappointed that the canon color of the ankle rings on the VF-19P is actually yellow. I'd forgotten about that, and think it really clashes with the rest of the plane. I'll probably grab one eventually, but I still just want a blank or kit version in white or gray.
  6. You know, if they released a second version with an off white for Alto's, and bundled it, I'd grab it, just to have a non-white one. Plus, I actually hope they do release one of those types of unwanted recolors, because it'll mean there's at least one release of this thing that sits on shelves. Unfortunately, they probably learned from the first time. They're being so ridiculously cautious about overproducing though, I doubt they'll take any risks at all with the VF-25 line.
  7. Edit: Nevermind, answered above.
  8. So, is Bandai screwing people from every single direction in terms of Macross? Glad I held off buying that PS3, because I might never even get a copy the way things are sounding.
  9. Wow. Yeah, really not worth it. Bandai can go eat some barbed wire and floss themselves at this point.
  10. Oh, gingerale maybe then? Dunno what I'd guess about the lenses though, unless you used something like an old contact lens.
  11. I'm guessing the visor is either just some clear cellophane, or a chunk of a soda bottle. It looks about the same shade as the sprite bottle in my fridge. Looks amazing... now if only it were possible to get the whole thing done that size.
  12. Actually I paypal'd mine back when I ordered in March, and there's still no update from them about anything. So I dunno what's up.
  13. I blame George Lucas. But I agree, it goes against any kind of sense why people would continue to do the same thing, hoping for different results. Releasing edits of movies is just asking to be burned in effigy by fans of the original. In some cases (again, Lucas) I think it's due to the original author wanting to "reclaim" some of their work.. not even to make money, just to send the message "This is my movie, I'll do what I want with it, and people will still buy it." I couldn't say that's the case here, because I don't know how Kawamori views what's been done, or if he even had any part in it. I'd think these changes fall more under the "Let's make those mysterious stains in the dungeons in Ocarina of Time: Master Quest green instead of red," and less under the "Han Shot First" type. It shouldn't need to be changed at all, and looks pretty hypocritcal considering the gore in the Frontier movies, but I can see why people might want to clean it up some. The rest though, if the stuff about the changes in the soundtrack and dialogue is true, that's just sloppy editing. Unfortunately for international buyers, returning the set for a refund or exchanging it for a fixed version is pretty unlikely, so everyone will be looking towards the internet for fixed versions.
  14. I am liking the fact that they've been using the old YF-21 stand to prop it up so far. Even better, the pics of the stand mount in fighter actually look like it's sitting under the bulk of the plane, instead of near the nose. And even if it does need a stand to stay up in battroid, I'm ok with that, because mine will probably be in permanent fighter mode anyway. I don't care for the gray color on the nose though, I agree, the old buff-colored nose would look better, if only because it would go along with the vintage F-14 markings I might be tempted to put on one of these. The low-vis color is beautiful though. I do hope they lower the UN kites on the nose a little from where they put the stickers on though, they look too high at the moment. But yeah. I'd love if they cast the tails in white and painted the control surfaces white for us, but with the way the VF-4 transforms, you've really got no reason not to paint the wings and tails. Once we get better shots of it, I think I'll work up a photoshop to see how these markings would look on it.
  15. No shipping notice for me yet from CDJapan, but the order says it's processing. Should be on its way pretty soon... so I need to go buy that PS3. To tell the truth, I didn't really buy this set for the movie, so I'm not overly concerned about glitches and edits. They'll be annoying, but if I watch this with anyone else, I'll use a fansubbed copy anyway, so the movie will most likely stay in the case most of the time. Buying this for me was more about actually owning a legitimate copy after years of watching downloaded stuff (plus, you know, the game and extras). I'll probably get a subbed version at some point, but it'll be satisfying to have that box on my shelf next to my Star Wars and BSG sets.
  16. They probably can't really, but I bet you those pieces wouldn't be too hard to make a replacement of.
  17. I think the big issue right now is the price. If we had a better idea, we'd probably gain a few buyers who are unsure, and maybe lose a few who would be priced out. I would actually love to get three of these if I can, or maybe even more for potential customizing, but being a limited release hurts that quite a bit, since we don't know how long they'll be around. Even if they're $400+, I could see myself buying more than one, but only if I could space out the purchases over a year or two. If we're talking about a short term production, I'm not going to drop that kind of cash for a single order. The "limited" aspect of this is probably doing more harm than good to the numbers, because people know they only have a set time to save up until release, and a relatively short window to buy them in.
  18. Eh, I can't say it's lazy, or what. They've obviously already created a masterpiece to get this thing looking as good as it is already, so they clearly know what they're doing. MIssing a big detail like that just seems oddly uncharacteristic. This actually reminds me of something I did once with a computer model though, so it might be exactly what Mommar mentioned, and they're waiting to fix it until bigger issues are resolved. Design wise it should be very simple to get the wing surfaces at the right angles, but they might not have the alignment of the other components finalized, or something like that. It might make sene to wait and fine tune things. If there's a good reason for things not to line up, then that's fine, I'm just glad to (maybe) have a chance to get one of these after so many years.
  19. I think you're missing the point. We've been trying to raise the issue so that Yamato becomes aware of it before it's too late to fix. So far, we've heard nothing from Graham at all about this, but if they're still working from resin prototypes, then the molds probably haven't been cast yet, and there's time to fix it. If not, oh well, people here can (and will) resort to custom mods to fix it. The problem is, for as much as we're likely paying for this thing? I'd expect to not have to fix it myself right out of the box. Really.. my personal issue with this is that it's stupid to not make it correctly. Obviously no one's going to make a perfect product, but if there's one thing I absolutely loathe in any type of work, it's using the fact that it won't be perfect as an excuse to slack off and not fix obvious errors that everyone can see. I'll be very honest though.. I'm weird about this type of thing. The actual error doesn't bother me that much. I'm more bothered by the fact that they seem to have just completely overlooked it. I see way too many things like this in my regular job, and they always grate on me. In the case of this valk in particular, I'd think making the aircraft mode look as good as possible is kind of a big thing, since I really don't know of anyone who's planning to buy one because they love the battroid mode. If it can't be fixed before production, oh well, we'll live. You should know by now though that this forum practically runs on debates about inaccuracies though. If you could generate electricity by nitpicking, we'd probably solve the world's energy problems as a whole.
  20. Anime magic isn't an issue here, because none of the surfaces we're complaining about being misaligned has anything to do with properly transforming the plane. There are no compromises that need to be made with the wings and tails. They don't affect the transformation (they're actually just kibble in this design really), and you could easily change the mounts yourself to line them up if you want, just by reshaping the supports by filing/superglue/etc. It's like saying the size of the rear view mirror on a car somehow effects whether the headlights are bright enough. They're not even related, so there should be no reason why the transformation should limit what angle the wings are positioned. They just didn't do it right, and it's been that way all along.
  21. Here's the thing. Those hips? There is no way to not force that freaking swing bar. I'm positive that I damaged the mechanism trying to rotate the hips to transform it. They would not move at all. I thought I was going to snap the legs off trying to move them. Basically, unless you found some way to loosen the hips before trying to transform them, you probably stressed the hell out of that hip bar joint before you even learned what it does.
  22. I said two, but it's dependent on it not costing $500 or something. I'll preorder one at least.
  23. That'd be great if they actually had any tension between the two, and acted something like one piece, but my left hip behaves as if there is no connection between it and the right hip bar at all. It slops no matter what I do with the other side.
  24. That is not nitpickery, that is asking for people to be accurate to the source material, and it shouldn't be that hard to do this. This is in the same realm as asking people making an F-18 replica to make sure they angle the tails out, because it is one of the defining characteristics of the aircraft. It's not asking too much for them to make sure they get it right. It won't make or break the product, no. But it looks sloppy, and to ignore that sort of detail entirely is asinine. Unless there is a very good reason for it, there should be no reason not to make those angles accurate. Given that all the control surfaces already angle all over the place anyway, and the angle of any particular control surface besides the canards has absolutely no bearing on any other mode besides fighter (since they ALL can bend to whatever angle is required), there should be absolutely no reason why they can't design the aircraft so the wings sit at the proper angles. It's not picky to ask people not to be sloppy in their work, and this is definitely sloppy. It still might be a great product, but entirely missing something like this for so long is stupid. Really the bottom line here? Yes, it will probably be stupidly easy to fix ourselves once we get these in hand, either by sanding or building up the hinges so the wings are at the right angle. But if it's so easy to do, why didn't they do it in the first place? We're already going to be paying through the nose for these, and we shouldn't have to be doing their work for them to fix mistakes in the design.
  25. Honestly, the logos all over the 171 are one thing I have never, and will never understand. It makes no freakin sense to plaster the name of your plane all over it. Public demonstrators sometimes have the name on them (I'm remembering the F-16 demonstrator aircraft), but stuff actually in service should look.. you know.. not like a flying billboard. As much as I love the attention to detail, I'm tempted to strip half the markings off my 171 because they just look stupid.
