Arcadia 1/60 Perfect Transformation VF-0D for 2015
Chronocidal replied to Dark_Ghost's topic in Toys
Not necessarily a new upper chest, since I think the canards attach to the intakes, but they might remold the underside lip of the chest to let the canards sit flush. -
Tamashii Online Exclusive DX Chogokin Tornado Parts for VF25F/G
Chronocidal replied to IXTL's topic in Toys
I know at one point, Bandai made a display with mixed and matched parts from the super, armor, and tornado packs, giving them various nicknames. There's a lot of potential for doing that I think, since most of the packs don't directly interfere with each other, as long as you keep specific groupings of pieces together. I think if you used the tornado pack wings and legs, you could potentially add the chest and back pieces from the armored or super sets. I'd like to think you could also use the tornado wings with any of the other sets, but they might interfere with the legs on the armored set.- 761 replies

I know I've got a few of the fence-type pieces, from a variety of sets.. I want to say I got some yellow ones with the original airport set I have, but I think most came from a "bucket" assortment I received very early on. I know I have some of the old metal-shaft wheels too (along with an old wind-up motor with a pair of keys). I think I've got one of those older figures too, but he's definitely a single assembled piece, a little bigger than a standard minifigure, with a big cartoony head. Got him in a really early helicopter building set that was made entirely of bricks, but also had a big four-bladed propeller I've never seen anywhere else. Actually, I'm pretty sure a lot of my early pieces actually came from happy meals. For a long time, you could occasionally get legos from mcdonalds, and they'd be simple little sets that could make one or two little vehicles, or combine to make something bigger. I miss those days horribly.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, I enjoy the few really useful pieces the Bionicle sets introduced (though the ball joints are fairly weak in general), but the sets seemed like they really got way too off kilter from what they usually make sets about. On the other hand.. I really loved some of the larger Technics style Bionicle sets that came later on. Yes, the ideas for the vehicles were ridiculous, but you never would have seen something like this come out of the normal Technics line. I mean, come on.. it's a transforming tank-walker. if it weren't for all the silly claws and junk, it would look like something out of the GITS universe. This single set has proven more useful to me in building assorted types of mechs and transforming vehicles than pretty much every other set I have combined. SIXTEEN of those heavy duty hinges like the AT-AT had, and a dozen or so hydraulic piston assemblies, on top of all the tank treads and such that usually don't come in that amount of bulk in any one set.

Why does the guy on the right make me think of Jeff Goldblum? Anyway, yeah, I would love three of these as well, but I think I'll wait to see if any more schemes appear. I'm ready to beg for a low-vis or supernova scheme at this point. The double nuts and BoP just didn't cut it for me.

All Things Videogame Related: EXTREME VS!!
Chronocidal replied to Keith's topic in Anime or Science Fiction
I'm playing through it currently as well, and uh.. well, I think it's very easy to screw yourself over. Any difficulty of adjusting to the combat system aside, you can easily bite off more than you can chew, because there's really no indication anywhere as to how strong anything will be. Even then though, it's entirely possible to do major story quests out of order, which I'm pretty sure I did... I'd been playing on easy mode from the start, and early combat was still difficult. And even if you did have time to grind, you don't gain anything that way except items (which include the skills you can use in combat) and points to recharge some skills. All of the "leveling" is really gained by completing the game's quests, which all give stat boosts. Anyway, yeah, very easy to sequence break it seems. You kind of have to go by "Does this enemy look bigger and scarier than anything I've seen so far?" If yes, then you will probably have to retry a few times.- 6891 replies

I just hope he isn't wearing a plaid shirt with those striped.. leggings? Or are those just really high socks? Can't tell. Either way, I hope he's coordinating.
-
I wouldn't bet that that's him in the picture.. he might have posted one taken by someone else (I hope).

Don't tease, I would buy the crap out of an assembly kit.. especially if they made it in white. The thought of Supernova versions still makes me drool.

Sorry for the late reply, but your trouble actually sounds like what happened with my super-pack release VF-27. Mine was mis-transformed, and completely out of whack right in the box, as if someone had half-transformed it, and then didn't bother to put it back before boxing it up. After some close inspection though, I realized that the entire chest/arm area had been assembled backwards, with pieces swapped left for right, and mounted upside down even. If things are fitting that badly, I'd really do a careful piece-by-piece check against close-ups in the instructions and videos to make sure that everything is actually assembled correctly. There are a lot of pieces that don't have a very clear difference between left and right, but if they're in the wrong place, the plane will not transform at all, into any mode. I had to disassemble and reassemble the entire chest plate on my VF-27 before I could even get the arms to sit correctly in fighter mode, much less actually unfold for gerwalk or battroid.

Are you hoping for Arcadia to re-issue the GNU-Dou line of the VF-1?
Chronocidal replied to JET7's topic in Toys
Have to agree about them falling apart, which is really the biggest downside I think. I think at their original retail price, they're a bit on the ridiculous side, but I got them from HLJ on heavy discount, and I don't regret it. They're not something you'd play with in any case, and all I really wanted was some cheap figures to display on my TV cabinet, which they completely fill the need for. -
Welp, it was a nice thought, but nope. Maybe it'll hit the bargain bin like the VF-25A.

Aside from the cameo it had in the Macross Quarter hangar in Sayonara no Tsubasa, the only place I think it's actually been shown is in some of the games.

The Fantastic Four Reboot (2015)

I'd love to see anything remade like it was in the Venture Bros. Curious to see how they'll work out the existing family ties some of the characters have.- 161 replies

Webshop, or wide release? I might go ahead and get one if it's made to order, otherwise, Bandai can go suck an egg. Bleh.. who am I kidding, I'll probably try to get one eventually either way, I'm a sucker for the old YF-16-style markings.

I kinda realized the beauty of this entire movie as a marketing tool earlier.. because of the way it was made, essentially, all the development work for the merchandise for entire movie was done during production. And for maybe the first time in history, you can actually have a perfect working replica of something you saw in a movie. So, I had a major nostalgia marathon last night, and dug through my entire box of lego instructions... I found catalogs ranging from basically 1987 up til now. Really wish we could have more of those sets re-released, especially some of the really old technics ones. Would really love to see some more of the old Space Police and Ice Planet sets come back, those were fun designs. Also, I went digging through my figures a bit, and found out I've actually got two of the old style space guys, the blue, and a red one. The red one is weird though, and I think he might be cobbled together out of a few figures that I inherited from a relative. The helmet might be from my original airport set, since I think the helicopter pilot had one. The torso has the old logo, but it's printed in all white instead of the normal gold. I had to laugh though.. my "Benny" figure is in far better shape than the movie one. Most of my figures are actually, since I kept them boxed separately from the actual pieces.. somewhere along the line, OCD kicked in and I got a series of little hardware organizers full of drawers, and used them to sort my parts out. Definitely going to be getting a couple of the Benny ships, and replacing all those silly flick-missiles with some good old fashioned hoses and probe guns.

I kind of understand not printing huge decals to a point, since it kind of restricts what you can use the part for in the future... given that that canopy is really only useful on spaceships though kinda blows that reasoning away. Honestly though, I hate that canopy. They could have easily made one that was the accurate shape, but they made it completely squared off. Kind of ruins the lines of the ship to me. Really, I've never liked how they keep relying on pivoted bricks to shape the nose on the X-Wing.. it makes sense to a point, but it also screws up the ability to add more layers of detail, and kinda kills the overall shape by making the entire thing a wedge shaped brick, instead of tapering from top to bottom as well as front to back. The one I built years back just used plates stacked sideways to make the nose slope, and I could actually layer them to make the fuselage taper in multiple directions.
-
See.. I have a weird relationship with the UCS ships.. I bought the original X-Wing... and promptly used the parts from it to build a better one. Honestly.. they really failed miserably to get the wings to work on that one. Surprising, because the "correct" wing mechanism (opposite wing pairs rotating on a center axle) is much simpler, and much stronger than the nonsense they tried with all the gears. In any case, I've got a long history with using technics joints to make workable landing gear. At some point, they even included friction based hydraulic ram-looking parts that're only as big as a single axle. They'd be a huge improvement over the collapsing scissor joints I used to use.
-
That's actually pretty fun. Honestly, one of my dream jobs would be to just design sets and things, if only to have access to unlimited bricks. I'm pretty terrible about actually collecting sets though, since I only tend to buy things that either peak my fancy, or provide a huge supply of parts I need. I tend to build a lot of things in white and gray, and I honestly never paid much attention to the colors of things when I was younger, as long as what I built was functional. That's made for a fairly eclectic selection of parts, mostly from assorted space and technics sets.
-
On impulse, I went checking, and lucked out. Lego doesn't sell the fancy B-Wing anymore, but I found one left at an Amazon shop at roughly retail, so it'll be arriving sometime in the near future.
-
Actually, it's pretty easy, I was thinking more this piece: This would actually let you mount the pins on either the wings or the mini-ships, using standard technic connector pins. Might want to add more than one to keep them from rotating, but on the other hand, that would actually let the pods rotate like minature turrets. I don't know how hard these are to find, but I know I have a ton, mostly in black.

Not only that, but the incredible precision that lego pieces are made with isn't there, from what I've yet seen. You can get some nice prints, yes.. but the tolerance levels that you have to hit when making something that is made to work with lego bricks would be insane. Not to mention, I can't actually think of any current printing method that would have the same structural integrity as an injection-molded piece. In all likelyhood, you'll wind up with a batch of Mega-bloks. You know, it's funny, I didn't mind the lift-arms being used on the shuttle instead of standard panels, because of how rarely you see good concentrations of those tall slopes they used on the edges. That set is probably going to be massively useful when I eventually get back to re-engineering my old VF-1 design, as well as when I get around to building the VF-19 model I've got going in the computer design software. It's basically a double-sized copy of the Yamato VF-19, mechanisms and all. Aside from that though, I probably should have grabbed that UCS B-Wing long ago.. never got around to it, and I dunno if you can even get it now.

Honestly, I don't mind the click hinges so much for some things, but as an attachable/detachable connection? Ugh. They're not meant to be used that way, and all it does is both wear out the parts quicker, and add an unnecessary axis of rotation that will give you one more moving piece to realign when it gets bumped out of place. One of the early space sets I got was also the first one I saw with the technic brick/connector setup, but they didn't use the black technic friction connectors, they used the standard 2x1 propeller shaft type bricks, and a smooth plate to keep them from rotating. The outer piece shown on the tip of the "wing" is what I'd use on Benny's.. 2x2 underside plate with a plug-in connection. The outer portion of this ship on both sides could be detached, and then attached together to form a larger drone/pod type thing. This thing is still one of my favorite early designs.
