  1. If they were actually interested in profit, they would have re-released Ozma's armor a long time ago. In reality, I have no doubt that they've got some sort of market analysis department picking and choosing what's a good product release schedule. Bandai just seems to be very averse to any kind of risk, and actively ignores the international markets their Macross products appeal to. Whether that's due to pressure from Big West, or other internal sources, is hard to tell.
  2. Unfortunately, I want to say about 90% of the commonly accepted backstory for how the fleet was built up only exists in the EU now, so it's probably all knocked out of the canon.. I was under the impression that the A and B wings were associated with the MonCals joining the alliance, so who knows. There's at least one Sullistan character in there, and we didnt see them until Jedi either, so maybe they had a hand in it.
  3. And it was Manny Both-hands. Who knows, this entire story might be establishing that the entire "Rogue" callsign might be in memoriam of someone or something. As far as the remaining jedi are concerned, we've still got a while to see the bit about how Vader "helped the emperor hunt down and destroy the jedi knights." Rebels probably isnt going to have any kind of happy ending, but everyone should know that already.
  4. Actually, no I wouldn't want anything resembling either of those movies happening in the SW universe. If anything, I'd want to see nods to the X-Wing books, which were themselves based on the X-Wing computer game.
  5. Not that I've seen, but it's just the single screw holding the triangles together. One of mine had that screw tightened so tight, it was visibly warping the lower half of the triangle by pinching it in the center. The damage on that one might be done in fact, but it's still holding for now.
  6. There definitely are some plastic issues going on with the 171s, but I also think they severely over-tightened the screws holding the shoulder triangles together. I've loosened all of mine as a precaution, and haven't had any of mine disintegrate so far.
  7. They could make it really simple and just make everything web exclusive. Bandai just exists in some oddball parallel universe where exclusives are 10000x easier to acquire than general releases.
  8. I'd honestly rather dig out my BF2 discs, and start upgrading that game to the current standard. This membership crap for stand alone games is getting old. How about you stop charging me for multiplayer functionality, and let me host the game on my own computer? Given EA's traditional epic fail launch format, I'd think it would save them a TON of trouble if they just offloaded the hosting to the players, and stopped trying to pretend they know how to estimate the server power required to run their own games.

    Hi-Metal R

After all the bad experiences I've had with the assorted Bandai valks having paint flake off their die-cast content, I really prefer if they just drop metal entirely, except for if it's the unpainted portions of joints that we never need to look at anyway.

If it is, they're shooting themselves in both feet at once.. The younger market might see it as false advertising, while the people who would otherwise be sold on nostalgia are probably already overrun with discounted Yamato overproductions.
  11. K, guess that's good to hear, though maybe I'm thinking more along the lines of how older games let you locally host matches, and apply whatever mods or custom settings you wanted. I don't know if any of EA's current infrastructure would allow that kind of freedom with the game.
  12. Honestly, my main concern? BF2 had TONS of user-made content, and the developers released a full-function SDK for it. It really allowed people to build on the original game, and develop some great stuff to expand on it. This? Are there even any mods for the recent Battlefield games? Or does EA have such an iron-fisted grip over anything multiplayer that you can't even look at the underlying files, let alone modify them? I know the older games had tons of mods, and I think Vietnam even started as a user mod.. but I haven't seen anything like that in a long time. Also.. while I understand not having actual space battles, it's still disappointing. Not that the BF2 space levels were all that impressive design-wise, but they were loads of fun, and I spent most of my time in them.
  13. I'm reserving any judgment until I have it in-hand.. I'm not sure if I trust Bandai to actually make something that won't turn into another (171) nightmare.
  14. I always just assumed the engines worked the same way as a VF-1's, opening up to allow air in for atmospheric use, or reverse thrust, and closing off when not needed.. Those "blades" always looked more like louvres that could open and close, and the overall structure never looked like it would even support a single cylindrical engine structure. The internal section between the wings is the same diameter as the rear section, which also conveniently leaves a decent amount of space for the landing gear.
  15. Yep, that theme always gets me teary eyed. Now, they need to make up for the prequels and actually USE that music.. prequel soundtracks really needed more callbacks to that sort of theme. Looks like it will be fun, though I still think the new x-wing wings look incredibly stupid from every angle except directly in front (so you cant tell how skinny and weak they look).
  16. I'm admittedly not a huge fan of the design, but I think the single biggest detractor is that funky pod hinge. The hunched spine is also a bit off-putting, but if I hadn't seen the design and lineart before, I probably wouldn't think it's so bad. Maybe on the same level as YF-19 gullet, and lots of people bought that anyway. What I wonder is what would make that hinge work better. The hinge is flush with the backplate in fighter, but it needs to extend or slide around the pod when they rotate. The current shape of the piece makes it look not even halfway finished though.
  17. I have to vote in the "I don't even want to know myself" category. Though it does help that a significant portion of what I have was bought on clearance. I got a good number of my valks for under $100. Of course.. the stack of VF-19s I have kinda negates any savings from that. Agree about the insurance total though, if you start picking up enough stuff, it can be important to pin down a value. And with some of the pieces becoming more rare, you might not be able to use the retail price anymore.
  18. Unfortunately, the profile of their model looks nothing like that. The back is just incredibly arched in a weird way, as if the hump is too far behind the canopy.
  19. Glad to see someone tackling the design in 1/60th finally, but can't say I'm that interested myself, since I never really liked the Macross II designs. They have some nice ideas to them, but never really caught my eye. That aside, this model does look like it has some weird things going on. The biggest two I see are the bulky hinges on the back, and the huge hump along the spine. Arms look a little weird too, are they supposed to have those cover flaps that fold out of the elbows?
  20. I always thought that the Star Wars version of the Fox fanfare was the full piece, and later movies just cut it short. I had sheet music for it, and my high school used to play it at sporting events, but it was just titled "20th Century Fox Fanfare," with no mention of Star Wars. Edit: Went and looked it up, and saw a clip from a 1957 movie that used the whole thing, so I'm guessing it was just shortened in later movies. I half wonder if it's because after Star Wars, people associated the ending with the Lucasfilm logo appearing.
  21. Alto used Michael's packs at one point in the series, so it's not technically wrong.
  22. Glad I'm not the only one that noticed that, it actually sounds a lot like a resample of the engine spool-up noise from the hangar scene.I did double check though, and that IS the wing sound from the special edition. Years of playing the old X-wing games burned that sound into my memory, so the sounds in the SE never seemed right to begin with (to say nothing of the rest of the movie).
  23. The eventual full package is supposed to fully support modding and private servers, so while I do have a moderate interest in the base game, I'm eagerly waiting to see what can be done with the game engine. What I'm hoping for is that this might turn into a modder's playground, and over time, have player-made conversion content and add-ons for every major science fiction universe in existence. The previews so far have me dying for a few full-blown Macross craft, including transformation. With all the moving parts and physics demonstratins so far, it looks very possible to do.
  24. It's probably not limited, so I wouldn't worry. Bandai's model division has a completely different marketing mindset than their toy division, and actually keeps making things people want to buy. I'm just going to wait and hope for a version without all the electronic stuff, since it bumps the price way out of the "reasonable" range for me.
  25. I have a possibly silly question about the way landing gear doors are done on this, and several other valks... So, the doors didn't used to sit on extending hinges, and they actually swung out on curved hooks that dropped them out and away from the gear bays. The old VF-0 had these, as well as the original YF-19, the v.2 VF-1, and probably a few others. Does it bug anyone else that the old way is actually more how real aircraft gear doors work? I would imagine the dropping hinges are easier to fit inside a valk, so it does make sense, but it still looks kind of odd to me.
