  1. Knowing Bandai, I ordered three sets so I have weapons for all of the eventual 1/48 VF-1s they wind up releasing.
  2. The question then becomes how you can physically maintain such a gargantuan monstrosity while in mid-flight, because if you don't have quadruple redundancy on pretty much everything, it's not going to stay in the air very long. At least that last one has the sense that you could land it on water, but I think the Yukikaze designs were never meant to land once launched. Not to mention.. the idea that those tankers are refueling that thing is hilarious. Unless they're carrying some kind of incredibly efficient and high energy-to-volume fuel source, those tankers would probably fit inside the carrier's fuel tanks. They might be better off landing the tankers and offloading the fuel manually so they'd at least save the gas the tanker would spend while flying.
  3. He was my first suggestion too, and I've never even seen or heard of Desty before.
  4. I remember watching reviews of the DX9 Seekers and Coneheads, and not necessarily liking the way they relocated the arms, but I wish more Seeker molds used the system they use to clean up the legs. Folding up both the stabs and vertical tails, and then twisting them to lay flat against the wings gives those some of the cleanest legs of pretty much any Seeker in any scale.
  5. Ok, I'll be honest, that looks.. weird. The blocks are too blocky.. and the seams look kinda nasty. Am I just imagining things?
  6. I can vouch for Rhinoceros 3D being very capable, and on the lower end of the cost spectrum. The shape modeling tools are very powerful, but I remember the tools for defining curved surfaces having some difficult quirks to them. If you're interested in trying out other types of software, I believe you can still get Gmax (a cut-down gaming-focused 3D Studio Max derivative) for free, or if you want to dive in headfirst, I was able to register for a student copy of the full 2018 3D Studio Max recently for free as well (though I'm not quite understanding what limits are on the license yet). I've used both Gmax and 3DS Max for a long time for game modeling, and they have no trouble generating the geometry files that 3D printing software likes to use.
  7. It's probably because they know if you open up anything they designed, you're going to be assaulted by a barrage of tiny plastic inserts filling all the internal gaps, get one of them lodged in your eye, and sue them for hazardous toy design. (Seriously. If you ever work one of Bandai's valks open, put down a drop cloth, and consider safety glasses. The parts go everywhere.)
  8. Considering that real ejection seats look just like that, I don't think anyone will blink an eye if you leave the sides of the seat off. Most ejection seats that I've ever seen have nothing like an armrest, and are only thick enough to mount whatever seat-related controls might need to be placed there.
  9. For me, the 31A fixes most of the glaring deficiencies with the YF-30, the biggest being the nonsense tail mounts. Sadly, the 31 series ditched the streamlined weapons pod mount and sensible landing gear, both of which will never fail to bug me something awful. I would gladly eat up a pile of 31As in the YF-30 scheme though.
  10. You really can't make the comparison to the VF-25, because the v.1 DX looked horrible. It'll be very similar to comparing the VF-0s though. The "same look" deal is mostly dependent on how you prefer to enjoy your valks. If you're just going to mount them on a stand in fighter mode, there's really no difference to be seen. They're both good representations of the Sv-51, and they might differ slightly in proportion or painting, but the average person will see no difference between the two if you mounted them side-by-side on a shelf. If you take it down, and start transforming and posing it? Yeah, the upgrade will become readily apparent, because the Arcadia is obviously going to have some massive upgrades in materials, joint design, and posability. But for someone who just likes the giant fighter mode, and leaves it in a display case? This is a really expensive upgrade for very little in terms of visible payoff. It's kind of like upgrading from a framed print of a Van Gogh, to a hand-painted reproduction. It might be much higher quality, but it's not going to change how it looks from across the room, or how it coordinates with your other furniture. (I can't compare it to owning an actual Van Gogh, because the closest equivalent would probably be a fully functional full-scale replica of an actual Sv-51 to fly around in. ) (Late reply I know, I had this written earlier this morning, but it never sent.)
  11. Seconded, thirded, or whichever we're up to now. Also, agreed, I'm kind of shocked they got that good of an airplane out of one of the limb bots. Looks like a really decent Harrier from all angles except behind and beneath. I don't think I've ever considered purchasing one of the Aerialbots just for the alt mode, but this one's tempting. Can confirm though, the canopy's accurate to real life; the Harrier has a rear-sliding canopy, rather than a clamshell.
  12. You know, I'm going to be a horrible person, and it's probably some form of Crusher Joe blasphemy, but I admit that I've never liked the bridge design on that ship. I love the rest of it though, and I've always thought it basically needed... well.. something like this. It just always looked like it should be a fighter to me. Depending on how big this kit is, I might have to go hunting for some spare cockpits I could kitbash onto it.
  13. I'm perfectly okay with that scale, I don't need another giant kit, and it'll keep the cost a bit more manageable compared to the PG Falcon. If they're going with the published 1600 m size, that should wind up being about 13 inches long. I'm still expecting upwards of $200, but we've got plenty of time to save up. I'm personally glad it looks like they're going with the ESB bridge design, but I also wonder if they'll include optional parts for the ANH structure.
  14. I'm starting to think I should stock up on that VFGirl's Kairos kit.. seems to be the only readily available version of the 31A.
  15. There's nothing to improve over the original sculpt anyway. It's not like these were hand-drawn, they had the original CG models to work from in the first place. The plastic wing supports are not making me think this will be worth the asking price. I think the only thing that would convince me to buy one of these now is if they pulled your splinter scheme out of their hat. I don't need more of the ones I already have, and still display fine..
  16. I think Arcadia should offer a trade-in/trade-up service for people who bought the first version. Otherwise, nope, I'm not sending them that much money to put out something they should have done right the first time. I'll paint my own, and it'll be a helluva lot cheaper.
  17. Is it bad that the primary thing I focused on with the poster is that she's been shown flying F-15s the entire time, but the poster has a flight of F-5s, and they show all F-16s on the ground?
  18. I would say the 31A is a particularly lousy experience, because otherwise, while they seem to be slow across the board right now, they've at least been pretty reliable at sourcing the TWE items. What concerns me about the the 31E is their initial order ending so quickly, and then their continued sales at a higher price, but only for pre-paid orders. They know full well that the item isn't going to be released before everyone's Paypal claim dates are long past, and they already have your money. Their "store credit" is about as skeezy an arrangement as I have ever witnessed in an online retailer, and would have their business run out of town if it was located in the US. The only reason I've trusted them with at 31E order is that it's the first item I wanted from them that qualified for me to use the store credit from my cancelled 31A order. They already had my money, and I've got nothing to lose trying to spend it. I'm absolutely going to try and source another 31E from somewhere more trustworthy, but I'm also more than willing to play chicken with them over this 31E order. I'm not going to cancel, and if they can't deliver on time, I'm going to pester them until I either get the order, or they cave and give me my cash back.
  19. It might be, if you don't mind the potential wait to receive it. After the 31A mess, I'm really not expecting them to come through with anything approaching a reasonable deadline.
  20. I think it will just depend on where the pivot point is drilled in the door. It fits perfectly flush one way, but once you rotate it, the door on mine sticks forward ahead of the sliding hinge, and catches on the underside of the nose. You can kind of see that on your photo as well, since the boxy hinge structure is pushed back from the front edge of the gear well. If it doesn't feel like it's stressing it, that's great though.
  21. Just curious, how hard was it to push that door back in that way in the open position? I tried it on mine, and it just refused to fit in that way without feeling like I was going to break something. I still was able to get the catapult bar to raise past horizontal, I just had to push the door back against the strut at a slight angle.
  22. I remember having some trouble with my original release, but I believe it was related to which way I tried to rock the armor. I'd have to pull out my original Yamato release to check, but I think the locking nubs on one side of the arm are angled (or are supposed to be angled) to let the armor mounts slip over them. If that sloped edge isn't there, the only way to really do it is to gently lift the locking tab over one of those nubs with something like a guitar pick, or toothpick, or other thin prying device. I'd hesitate to use a screwdriver because of the potential to gouge the plastic, but a thin flathead, or something like a jeweler's screwdriver might work as a last resort.

I'm not worried, we're all free to speculate how we like. Nothing to get butthurt about, I'm just fascinated by all the theories we tend to generate. Gives us something to yammer about during the empty months in the release schedule, after all. I do have to wonder what Bandai is going to pull out of its hat next though, because we're long long overdue for a TV Skull 1, and as much as I'm tired of VF-1s, that's the one I'd actually still like to get a couple of, especially if they include some TV-style fast packs. And please please please release the fast packs again? I need about ten sets. After that.. I'm going to guess Bandai intends to do something with Macross Zero? I think that was the final recognizable poster in that big teaser display. I would love to see a redone HMR VF-19, but I'm thinking that's more likely to be a 1/60 DX release somewhere down the road. No reason they couldn't do both, but as long as they have the YF-19 going, it's a logical progression.
  24. Enough to buy the dvd and watch it as many times as you want? I really can't knock the full theater experience, especially with big spectacle movies like Star Wars, but at the same time, nothing has felt right about them to me since the removal of the 20th Century fanfare.
  25. I actually hadn't bothered to check the order number. Turns out I had 13901049.
