Worst Science Fiction Film of All Time
anime52k8 replied to JELEINEN's topic in Hall Of The Super Topics
Supernova was actually not that bad. actually the theatrical version where Francis Ford Coppola went in and butchered it was crap. the director's cut of the film was much better. -
Special forces in the Macross universe
anime52k8 replied to Macross007's topic in Movies and TV Series
in any case they're clearly shown to kick way more ass than normal units. I love this GIF -
despite all the pissing and moaning, I like it. honestly I'm tired of seeing black white and yellow for the millionth time and I just like the yellow on grey better than the yellow on white. I'd only be getting this if I have enough cash after the VE-1 but I'm more tempted by this than any other valk right now (excluding VE-1). It would also be grate if they came out with a Grey FAST pack set to go with it. If I could afford it I'd actually like to get the whole skull squad in Grey.

the VF-25 is a single seater with a jump seat. the person in back is basically a passenger although there are duplicate controls presumably for emergencies. there are probably a whole host of in universe justifications but th real world reason is that it's more continent to the plot then having to bust out a special 2 seat variant or have the person sitting in the pilot's lap.

KAI and MAXL: what do they stand for?
anime52k8 replied to nexxstrait's topic in Movies and TV Series
in the context of aircraft Kai just means Modified or augmented. For instance the F-4J kai in real lifejapanese service which are F-4J's with modernized electronics. in Macross zero they had F-14A+ kai jets. these were F-14A+'s with presumably OTech upgrades. -
Just my 2 cents; I think that if you really want to develop a good foundation, go out and get a manual body 35mm film camera and take a film photography class. A small body SLR from the late 70's/early 80's is a great way to learn the fundamentals without having to shell out lots of cash. These old cameras are solid little things that last just about forever and can be had for very cheap (a body and a couple manual lenses will run maybe $200). Personally, I just find that the more hands on operation of a manual film camera makes for a more solid understanding of what you're doing when you take a picture. even more so when you actually develop and print your own photos.

I normally I can do do about $4-500 a year to supplement toy purchasing, but now every penny I scrap together form now until December is going to a new camera. the sad thing one of the main things I want to do with the camera is take pictures of toys, but because all my free money is going to the camera I can't afford to by toys to take pictures of... cruel, cruel irony I'm also diligently whoring myself out to every franchise of the evil empire (i.e. fast food) in the bay area.

Unless you live in California and get CRV, it's not nearly as easy as it sounds. If you're getting scrap value, your looking at about 5 cents USD per pound of PET plastic for anything under 20 TONS. cans are slightly better at about 17 cents per lb as whole cans under 20 tons. bottles are actually the worst, clear container glass (best price) is about $10 per TON (about half a cent per lb or 1 penny for every 2 bottles). the point is unless you live in one of the dozen or so states where you get 5/10 cents per container of every kind you're going to need to run a BIG operation to make any kind of money off recycling. (I live in CA so I do a bit better; about $3.00 per lb for cans. With just the combined consumption of 4 people I can get about 100lbs in 8~9 months.)

I never noticed until now just how... plain looking the TV max looks. the nose just looks so flat and vacant. It needs numbers or safety markings or something (the tempoed the ejection seat markings on the DYRL? version, why not here?).

I love the VFCFA-44

I don't really see how water slide decals are going to fix the problem of paint/markings scratching off. Decals are delicate and prone to falling off unless you clear coat them, and if your going to do that you're probebly better off just clear coating the whole toy strait out of the box. I'd think good quality stickers would be better, unless your looking for something to fix damaged marking before you seal the thing.

gloss paint looks good but then you run the risk of chipping whenever you handle it. (anyone who disagrees needs to have a talk with my 1/72 VF-19A ) even my SOC EVA-02 has paint chipping and handled it all of 2-3 times lightly after I got it. -

Don't know the official reason, but I find gloss finish looks too... toy like. glossy finish looks cheap and kiddish to me. matte finish looks more fitting for something that is supposed to be a war machine. -
disregard that...

considering how nigh indistinguishable valks aredue to technobabel construction, G loading probably isn't an issue. As for the super sylph, they don't do any real maneuvering with the fin down (that I recall) and it's been stated repeatedly by the creators that the planes in the OVA are designed to be aerodynamically wrong on purpose, chances are no thought was given to structural strength either. and as for the ADF-01F... IT SPLITS IN HALF TO FIRE A CHEMICAL LASER!!!
-
I don't remember the morgan having the tail fin, all though the Giant back mounted laser couldn't possibly be good for performance. the Fin on the falken was a lot smaller than the ELINT fins of the RVF and the Yukikazae. I think it was some kind of flight control or stabalizer... or something. (I tend not to worry too much about a seemingly superfluous fin when the the plane splits in half like a zentraid battleship mid flight.)
-
oh... OH I see what you mean now. for some reason I thought we were talking about why the ELINT fin was swept back... durrr. anyways, what he said plus out canted tail fins help reduce RCS.

they probably do it for the same reason they angle the wings and fins. reduce drag and increase stability at higher speeds.
