  1. holly asscrackers is the 24-70mm expensive. it is tempting though. what about the 17-55mm IS? $140 cheaper and sharper image quality plus IS. not sure if the sealed metal barrel and an included hood/case are worth the extra cash.
  2. I was wondering, has anyone who's working on given any though to ---- after all the issues are out and all these are out of print, obviously ---- making an English translated version of the collected volumes? As in going in and replacing all the original Japanese text with English translations then making it available as a PDF for those of us that can't read Japanese and would like to be able to read the magazine's content without having to go back and forth between the actual magazine and pages of text online. I think doing this would be a good idea and considering the High unlikelihood that the chronicles will ever be officially released in English anyways, I don't see any problem if whoever makes it waits until all the issues are out to release it.
  3. does it officially say that somewhere? I would think it wouldn't since the new tail fins wouldn't line up with the slits in the wings the way the tails on the A and S models do. as a side rant; as justifiable as it is, waiting for chronicles to go out of print is frustrating as all hell. I apologize for being too poor to afford hundreds of dollars in magazines that I can't read and less than a third of the content in each issue I'm interested in anyways *goes off and grumbles*
  4. that would make the most sense, although I'm partly still inclined to believe that the 4 long pipes on the main boosters are the guns. Even though they are really poorly placed to be guns, they their size, shape and how they attach to the boosters make it believable that they are guns. not to mention I can't think of any better explanation as to what they are. the additional ports on the armor sit right over the existing vents for the fighters guns, and are positioned in such a way that at least the top one might not leave enough room for a gun. the ports being for the vents of the 25mm seems a little more believable. as for the chest things, the main problem their is that theirs only 2 of them. unless they're shrouds that cover 2 guns each.
  5. In a sick kind kind of way I'd like just ONE of these OMGWEREALLGONNADIE viruses to actually pay off and kill an assload of people, just so that the panicking wasn't all for nothing.
  6. ok, anyone have advice on lenses? I'm planing on getting a new camera (canon T1i) some time in the next year and will need to get all new lenses for it. I'm hopping to get both camera and lenses for around $2000 (plus or minus 200) all total and I'd prefer to end up with a similar selection to what I'm used to on my film camera (with that I have 50mm and 28mm lenses as well as a standard zoom and a telephoto zoom.) considering the 1.6x multiplication from the smaller sensor, I was planing on getting a 20mm, a 35mm and a 70-300mm zoom on top of the standard kit lens (18-55mm). I've also been looking at an F1.4 50mm as well as either an 85 or 100mm telephoto. I'm really not sure which of these I'd be better off with. I'm not sure if I'd get more use out of a wide angle lens or a more telephoto lens, and I'm also wondering if I should forgo the kit lens AND the telephoto zoom and just get an 18-200mm lens as a walk around lens.
  7. how is it that when I do a search I can't find crap no matter how long I look, but someone else finds exactly what I had been looking for in about 2 minutes.
  8. :edit: *is jackass*
  9. I have the same camera. it's ok but I really want to move up to something better. would camera talk be more apropreate under toys or under general scifi/anime?
  10. standard kit lenses aren't THAT bad. I honestly think you should have an 18-50mm lens just as an 'every day' kind of lens. they're good enough for taking vacation and family photos and cover a wide rage of applications well enough in one relatively compact package so they're nice for traveling. They're not as good as a prime lens but their still better than you're average point and shoot and you'll get more milage out of you're camera (in my opinion) then again my SLR experience is with late 70's vintage cameras so what do I know. I'd love a full frame DSLR, but $1,500+ for a used body only is way out of my range. I've been thinking about a Nikon D90. But recently I've been leaning more towards a canon T1i or a Nikon D5000. If the price drops another 3-400 dollars in the next 6 months to a year for the 5D maybe, though I'd hate buying a digital camera used. :edit: advice on camera choices are wholly welcomed.
  11. That "crippling syndrome" is Guillain-Barré syndrome. GBS is caused by an immune response to an infection where the antibodies start attacking nerve tissue resulting in ascending paralysis. usually you get GBS form actual infections, but you can get it from influenza vaccinations on rare occasions as well. GBS from vaccination has an incidence of about 1 case per 1 million vaccinations. in 1976 their were about 500 cases believed to have been caused by the vaccine (which was administered to some 33% of the population) of those, 25 died from pulmonary complications. no other vaccine has been shown to have this high a complication rate. I'd also just like to remind that there has been only 20 confirmed deaths form this strain so far.
  12. Wow, nice. That thing just looks Ridiculously heavy though, I wonder if the final product will even be able to hole itself up when build without a stand.
  13. The worst part is I won't be surprised at all when those really do come out. Nor will I be surprised if they turn out not to be toothbrushes.
  14. I just died a little bit on the inside.
  15. it would be kind of hard to squeeze the quarter in and produce something with good overall design. If they had gone with the quarter over the Frontier they would had to make it wildly out of scale compared to the galaxy in order to balance out the shape and space used, and even then it still wouldn't be as effective since the quarter doesn't really have the same proportions as the galaxy. Additionally you wouldn't want to stick it in the middle either. If you did you'd have to place Altos VF-25 right on top of it so the Quarter would need to be rather large and would really crowd the available space. Not to mention the presence of Alto's valk would loose impact if it was placed over a busy background like the quarter rather than the relatively neutral space background it's on now. Basically the detail of the valk is going to get lost in the detail of the ship. Oh, and if you DID have the Quarter in the middle panel an the VF-25 in front of it you'd need to place the 25 on the bottom half of the panel so as to not obscure the Quarters "Face." obviously you'd want to avoid this since placing it down in the more cluttered bottom of the overall triptych would be reducing the prominence and as a result the implied importance of the main character of the show. so in short you just cant put the Galaxy, Frontier, the VF-27, all the VF-25's AND the Quarter in the same image and still them form an effective, balanced layout in a triptych format. boy isn't Package design fun! (I hate when I actually learn something from these god awful graphic design classes I'm taking )
  16. what really bothers me about these isn't the content but the Price. I'm amazed that they actually have the nerve to charge 4200 yen for an ergonomic mouse pad . I could see something like this being fun as a novalty/joke gift kind of thing, but at that price it's obviously only for the dedicated perverts out there. same thing goes for dakimakura. some of those would actually make nice wall hangers if they weren't >$100 a piece for a f**king pillow case.
  17. the have the same thing for EVERY show that features a female character.
  18. yeah, the fact that the legs don't have pocket dimensions to store correct size tail fins is just ridiculous.
  19. I'm surprised this wasn't done sooner, I think Ranka's boobs are a little large though...
  20. Mobile Fighter G gundam, 40+ gundams, most of them completely retarded (still one of my favorite's of the franchise ).
  21. the fast packs look weird, but the paint scheme looks cool. the VF-X scheme looks good on the 25.
  22. you know, to be honest I never actually liked the YF-21 battroid mode until the 1/60 YF-21 came out. based on the animation I always thought that the YF-21/VF-22 was a little too bulbous and lumpy in battroid. The Toy version looks a lot smoother and I think the thin legs work for it better.
  23. I'd actually prefer a sub over a dub in this case, normally I don't but for Frontier I make an exception. that would be cheaper as well.
  24. military fetish, cowgirl fetish, other fetishes, it's all good
