Macross Frontier Mecha/Technology Thread IV *Read 1st Post*
anime52k8 replied to azrael's topic in Movies and TV Series
I think it's just perspective. The two gunships look like the same design, just that one is angled towards the viewer so it looks shorter. -
O.O awesome... I'm a little concerned though, it's obvious the arms are going to have to come off for the cast off to work and considering that the area where the seams would be are conspicuously blocked in every shot I'm worried that the seam lines are atrocious in person and they're trying to hide it.

I see nothing wrong with that

little late the the party there DYRL? style FAST packs have been out for months now, the boosters come without markings and have stickers for Roy, Max, Hikaru, kakizaki and generic UN SPACY.

not really. There's no universal standard for police rounds. Every agency and department has their own individual standards for ammunition and guns, most allow multiple guns and many allow more than one caliber. 9mm para is one of the more common police rounds, but so are .40 S&W and .45ACP. .38 special is also common and then there are some more esoteric options like .357 magnum, .357 sig, 10mm auto, .38ACP, .380 auto, etc. etc. that could all called "standard police issue." As for military, if were talking about the US then the Standard round for all branches of service is the 9mm in the form of the model 92 beretta (and to a lesser extent the Sig P228). 9mm is also the standard for most other military's around the world. the .45ACP is only used by a few specialized units within the US military; namely Marine expeditionary units, SFOD-D, army Rangers and a few others.

assuming the engines even give off that much heat in the first place.

While I fully respect your wishes and desire to protect your work, I feel I need to make an argument in my defense as I find the insinuation that my intentions are somehow nefarious or unscrupulous to be highly offensive. It has never been, nor will it ever be my intention to use another persons work without their consent and anything done involving translations would of course be done with full consent and input from the original translator. Further more I hardly think that "ripping off" is an appropriate way to describe what I was suggesting. As I (in my view) clearly stated in my initial post, any scanlation produced would not be made publicly available until well after the ENTIRE magazine is out of print so as not to negatively affect primary market sales. An English chronicles scanlation would be done solely for the benefit of English speaking fans who want to have a version the chronicles with statistics and text that can be read IN CONTEXT as apposed to disparate translations spread across the pages of a web forum (such as myself). This is in no way an attempt to undermine the viability of the magazine or in any way make some kind of personal gain beyond the satisfaction of actually contributing something useful or desirable to the fandom. In my view, this is really no different than releasing a fan sub episode or translated manga. Its an attempt at making the media both accessible and convinient to those not fortunate enough to be fluent in Japanese. I completely agree with the notion that we as fans need to support the franchise by buying legitimate copies of publications and encouraging others to do the same. If there was or is a practical way to assure that only fans who have purchased legitimate copies of the magazine had access to this then I would absolutely support it. If you aren't interested in being involved that is perfectly fine, I will pursue the matter no further and applaud you for sticking to your principles but DO NOT imply that I'm somehow acting with ill intentions or that I ever planed to steal or in any way misuse anyones work.

2030s Era Valkyries and Beyond...
anime52k8 replied to Cyclone Trooper's topic in Movies and TV Series
the VF-25 is actually quite simple (excluding the arms). legs drop down and crotch folds over, nose folds over, swing bars pivit 180 degrees behind the cockpit then the backpack and chest fold in half and the wings fold back. really it's almost all simple hinges excpet for the sing arms which just rotate on a fixed axis. -
Macross Big West non-canon mecha and technology thread

MacII wasn't done by Studio Nue. It was done by AIC and ONIRO -
I'm curious how the hands on the back of the guns work.

I've tried glocks before, I'm not a fan. they're bricks, some people don't mind but I do. also I prefer Single action over double action (personal preference), I also dislike the lack of a conventional safty and the lack of decocking lever is just stupid.
-
I don't think the v.1 shoulder would work with the design of the v.2; I'd think they would get in the way of the metal swing bar and mess up the transformation. also while I've never seen/heard of the part breaking specifically on a v1 1/60, I've seen parts on other toys of similar design break very easily and be almost impossible to fix without a replacement part. the little rods that stick out are major week points. On the Toynami MPC's they use essentially the same design except the rectangle is die cast and I've had several of those break.

you know I'm just going to suck it up and get the 24-70. it does exactly what I want, and I'll be able to save up enough in a couple of months. (I need to find work this summer though so I can afford this AND something to shoot with it)

I'd like to hang out with you in a zombie outbreak, you can distract them by being eaten while I run away. appropriate zombie survival gear is hard to nail down exactly but I do have a few short lists: in absolutely ideal conditions (i.e. I've been preparing for this for a while and I stopped caring about local, state and feral laws) I'd go with: An M4A1 SOPMOD equivalent carbine using Magpul MS2 sling and their P-mags and equiped with an optic such as an EOtech holosight (I prefer the redical to the solid dot on aimpoints) or alternatively a 3x ACOG if the carbines my only long gun. I'd also consider a vetical grip and a Surefire Light. If I have a vehicle I'd also take an bolt action rifle, preferably a scoped remington 700 chambered in .308 (a good hunting rifle is rather useful but would be the first thing I'd dump to cut weight) For a backup handgun; theirs really no other option worth considering besides a modern 1911 chambered in good old .45ACP (it was good enough to kill nazi's, fashists, comunists and tarrorists; damit it's good enough for zombies). My personal favorite is the kimber warrior. A light would be a good idea, I'm more of a fan of surefire myself (Light only, no laser). keep this in a drop leg holster with 4-6 spare mags as for clothing and gear and what not: I like 5.11's Taclite pro pants and short sleave shirt with a pare of comfortable 6" boots. also A MOLLE LBE style Harness with Pouches for 9-12 mags and a camelbak. I personally wouldn't bother with laser sights, body armor or sinlencers. I'm just not a fan of lasers and body armor is flat out hot and cumbersom and if it's possible to move there will be a gap where you will enevitably get bitten. as for silencers, I wouldn't bother with them; they can work with any ammo but they work better with subsonic and they degrade in effectivness over time. also I think they make pistols really unwealdy and I just feel that ear pertection and avoiding gunfire all together are the better way to go

only in England, if they're real zombies. if it's England and they run, you're f**ked.

Max Brooks is full of himself (I should know, I've got the read the book). an M1 Garand is the last thing you want to be lugging around in a zombie outbreak of any kind. at anywhere from 9.5 to 13.2lbs it's WAY to heavy to carry long distances on foot. not to mention .30-06 is a terrible round for zombies; besides being heavier per round than equally powerful .308 (which will be more readily obtainable anyways.) both rounds are ridiculously overpowered against zombies. the M1's got a maximum 1000 yard range and only 8 rounds per en bloc. You will almost NEVER need to shoot a zombie at even half that, and if you are shooting zombies at 500 yard you're wasting ammo and giving away you're position. Now take into consideration the high recoil, small magazine capacity, and relatively unwieldy size and you're just asking for trouble in a close range situation (if you're smart you shoot only when you have to and you only ever have to at sub 100 yard distances). now the ideal gun for dealing with zombies would be a compact carbine along the lines of an SKS or, if you prefer historic firearms, the M1 carbine. personally I like the M1 or M1A1 carbine. At just over 5lbs it's a nice light weapon, and with a 15 round magazine and semi automatic fire it's practical for tight situations and close range accurate fire. the SKS is a little heavier and only has a 10 round fixed magazine, but the 7.62x39 round is a much better choice over .30-06 an both rifle and ammunition or readily available for cheap. Also the SKS can be modified to accept AK-47 magazines and posses a folding strait blade bayonet (and yes the bayonet is legal in the US since it's considered a antique collectible by the ATF shotguns benefit from being the most readily available weapon and ammunition around, and they will easily take a human head off with the same aiming effort that you would have to put into using a rifle or carbine. Like a Carbine, the average shotgun firing 0 or 00 buckshot is going to be plenty accurate and powerful enough to do the job at the kind of ranges you'll do most shooting. while shot guns do suffer from relatively small magazines and have rather slow and cumbersome reload operations the fact that the weapon and ammo can be obtained so easily make it a good choice if you don't have time or opportunity to pic up more preferable weapons. as for the machete, it's good to have (especially if you're in a rural environment) but if you plan to use it often against zombies you're not going to last long. the problem with a machete is that it's not going to stay sharp enough to effectively take down a zombie at close range for very long, it can work but don't think it will take the place of a good pistol at close range. A better all around tool (and I still only recommend this as a last resort option) is actually a crowbar. A crowbar is heavy enough that it's not going to break or bend when used against a zombie and you don't need to worry about it getting dull. the Crowbar really shines in urban environment though, as it becomes very practical for tasks such as entering buildings and vehicles, raiding stores for supplies and taking down and setting up barricades. on an additional note, always carry a pistol. a pistol is not a primary weapon but is a vitally useful backup and you're best bet in extreme close contact.

hehe, love left 4 dead. nothing beats a well plased pipe bomb and an auto shotty. also miniguns

I'm not worried...

this tread probebly would go better under the anime/sicfi section but it's been here for 2 years and hasn't been locked or moved yet so... How about we continue to talk about photography in general and If a mode/admin decides that this thread doesn't belong here then they Move it at their own discretion?

I'd actually prefer a Klan cleavage neck pillow.

from the pages I've seen, you'd need to do some high res scans; cut out the existing text without damaging any of the pictures or backgrounds (in Photoshop); then type up all the titles, captions and paragraphs preferably matching fonts, colors, text size and formatting as best as possible. the more I think about the more fun it sounds. it would also give me a good exuse to buy the magazines and give me something to do over the summer.

I don't know any Japanese so sadly I can't help out any with actual translation (course if I knew Japanese I probably wouldn't be all that concerned with getting an English translation). I do have experiance with photoshop and inDesign and have some practice editing in text to comic books.
