Thank you for the offer. Over the weekend, I was mulling it over, and feel that it's a bit safer to keep all our Macross sites in separate baskets for the time being (if your site unexpectedly goes down, it would also take down Macross Mecha Manual and Sketchley Translations - depriving the world of a lot of Macross content in one blow!) Nevertheless, I may take you up on the offer in the future.

Moved to a new host (well, same one, new account). http://www.macrossworld.com/mwf/index.php?showtopic=33597&page=4 The following were completed over the past few days (and a twin desk for the kids!): #81: The General Index Issue: Character Index, Back Cover: http://www.mtranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#SerGui - character section: as with the mechanic section, only the characters that had images and descriptions are included. It's also missing a bunch of (relatively important) characters that appeared in only the Glossary and some of the Mechanic sheets (though, it has "some" of the characters that appeared on Mechanics sheets!). - back cover: I've noticed the Macross F Shikishi at a store near my home. Was waffling over trying one out. Glad I translated this, as it seems overpriced just for 1 piece of art per item.

Don't worry about the content - it's all on my HD in multiple formats. As far as the hosting goes... I have no clue what's going on - there hasn't been any e-mail notification and even the cPanel login has been invalidated! Maybe it's just the hosting company's way of saying upgrade to a paid account? Which seems right, as I've been with them for 1 year, and I've been changing hosts at a rate of once a year now... >.<

Complete: #81: General Index Issue: Timeline, History, Technology, Worldguide, Glossary, and Episode sections: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#SerGui - much easier than the Mechanics (and upcoming Character) section! Nothing new, other than altered punctuation and the issue numbers.

Complete: #81: General Index Issue: Heroine Gallery, Gallery, Song, and Goods sections: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#SerGui - considerably easier than the Mechanics section! That said, the inclusion of the illustrators' names on the Heroine Gallery and Gallery sheets was a chore. The order of the Song and Goods sheets is handy - they're basically in the Japanese syllabic order. Not sure if it's worth reorganizing them just yet...

In some ways, the ending of the TF movies and Zero are to give the viewer hope that the characters' stories continue (not that the producers have any plans to continue their story). In other ways, the Frontier series resolved some aspects of the Zero ending, and the TF conclusion answered some of the questions that weren't answered in the conclusion of the TV version. So, no flipping the bird, and no betrayal of the viewer, IMHO.

Complete: #81: The General Index Issue: Front Cover, Mechanic section: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#SerGui - the description of how they organize the pages implies that it has the definitive ordering of the Goods section. Something that has been sorely lacking to date. Mechanic section: gah! What a slog! Alas, it appears to be limited to the mecha that have a picture AND a description (E.g.: no SDFM police bike (pictured but no description) nor VF-171 bomber (mentioned, but neither described nor pictured). So... me thinks we should take this general index as the "ultimate Macross Chronicle Revised Ed." index, and not the "ultimate Macross index". <sigh>

About that SV-51... It's the SV-51Σ, is unmanned, and is codenamed "Rudolph" in the AUA's "Operation Red Nosed Reindeer" that we see taking place. At the end of the manga, Shammy does her stuff, and detects it - as the AUA aircraft are using active stealth and pretty much all of the island's radar facilities have been destroyed in the attack (well, she literally detects "something", but us readers know what that is), and it appears that Fokker's booster rocket equipped VF-1S is being set up to intercept it.

Different cultures have different ideas of what acting is. And you're not the first to mention it. Check out Ebert's review of "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence" for more on the Western European vs. Japanese acting style differences.

Complete! Issue 81 Back Cover: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#SerGui - nothing new when it comes to filing, and the description of the General Index Issue is limited at best. At least it was fun looking up html code for the symbols...

Let's not forget that the Stormtroopers had "excellent" marksmanship against human-like opponents, too (despite what was said about their abilities in the movies - hero invulnerability field and all that aside).

Complete: #80: Table Of Errata: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#SerGui - As interesting as some of the changes are, some of it is mind-numbingly straightforward or obvious. And on top of that, there's all the changes to all of the individual sheets that I've translated so far! I'm glad that this headache is done!

Are we absolutely sure the teddy bears with sharp sticks don't also have acid blood? Like, we never see them bleed or anything. Jesting aside, I don't want to lose site of my original intent: if the Storm Troopers use sensors to see, it's possible that the Ewoks are indistinguishable from their surroundings, as their fur coats would tend to mask heat emissions, and their low stature helps them blend in with the undergrowth or something to that effect.

Hey, if we can accept the colonial marines in Aliens getting taken out by the aliens, why not the Stormtroopers vs the Ewoks? Thought, it definitely would've helped if they added a few throwaway lines suggesting that they couldn't detect the Ewoks with their fancy sensors because they're low tech or something.

2 new Variable Fighter Master File books: VF-22 and VF-1 Squadrons

I've found the Gold Book to be a bit overrated. Perfect Memory and Shoji Kawamori Design Works are the essentials. They are an order of magnitude better than any other book on Macross. -
Complete! Weekly "Macross Chronicle Revised Edition Correction Stickers 2: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/MCRseriesguide/MCRseriesguide.php#SerGui - quite a range of fixes - ranging from typographical and spelling errors, to major changes to the timeline! Some of the changes make a lot of sense (as they resolve questions spawned when originally translated), others blindsided me. Also, take care when applying some of the stickers. It's possible to peel the sticker off (carefully!) if you've misaligned it and only part of it is attached to the paper - but even then, you might wreck the sticker (as I inadvertently did with the black background on the timeline sticker >.<). These aren't like the cling-wrap stickers you put on cars. And although the waxy paper helps, its not foolproof. I found that using needle-nosed tweezers (for modelling) helped immensely. Take real care with the song list replacement sticker (start from the bottom up on that one).

2 new Variable Fighter Master File books: VF-22 and VF-1 Squadrons
sketchley replied to cool8or's topic in Collectors
That's akin to the hero never having to reload in an action movie. It's done for storytelling purposes (just like we next to never see anyone on TV or in the movies going to the toilet). -
Alas, as its an old school kit, any parts changes have to be done during assembly. Though, it's possible to drill a hole in the hand and put a gun into that. As two "factory" dioramas come with the kit, from the start I was thinking of doing one plain, and the other spruced up. However, after assembly, I'm thinking that only with a few dabs of paint in the right places, even the plain one will get a lot of pop.

And the "official" "line art" for those Super Parts: http://sketchleytranslation.host-ed.me/Stats/Statistics/VF-22/VF22.php#COMPATIBLE_FAST_PACKS I'm of mixed feelings about them. On the one hand, more info on them is nice, on the other, the VFMF writers tend to go overboard, and load them with impossible and illogical numbers of micromissiles! -

It's possible, but it's just as likely that they are the leftovers of planets that almost formed, but couldn't because of the influence of Jupiter's gravity.
